The Certificate of Incorporation for the Bethany Beach – Fenwick Island Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was signed in Wilmington. To honor this milestone, the Chamber is taking over Bethany Blues in downtown Bethany for a special 40th Anniversary Membership Celebration on Wednesday, October 26th. In its forty-fourth year of business, Pottery Place in the Sunshine Plaza on Coastal Highway is a mainstay of the landscape in Fenwick Island. Pottery Place offers unique pottery, household items, accessories, greeting cards, and even has a coffee and juice bar called “Perks.” Founded in 1972 in downtown Ocean City by the late Sandy Flynn, the Fenwick Island location opened in 1976. Currently at the helm are Sandy’s daughter Kimberly Flynn and her husband Jeff Laros. Raised working in the original store, and then in various merchandising positions afterward, Kimberly says she was “bred for the position.” Her mother created a winning formula that is carried on today. Open year-round, Pottery Place has a loyal customer base, including local businesses who use its design services. Members of the Chamber since 1992, Kimberly has seen a positive trend in the way the Chamber cultivates its relationship with the local towns to promote business. According to Kimberly, this has been their best season since they have been in business. She emphasizes that though they are open year-round, they basically “have one hundred solid days” to make the majority of their sales. While the bulk of their business is local, they essentially serve the tristate area, and have even completed decorating jobs as far away as Palm Beach, Florida. The next time you find yourself in Fenwick Island, stop in the Pottery Place, say “Hi” to Kimberly and Jeff, and expect some fun, funkiness and a fabulous shopping experience!
