The Tata Padukone Badminton Centre will commence its operations from 1st May. Former Indian International player Ms Hufrish Nariman has been appointed as the coach in-charge of the Mumbai centre. Around 20 trainees in the age group of 8 -16 years will be selected and provided world-class training to improve their skills and further harness their talent. Youngsters with good potential will also be periodically trained at the elite centre in Bangalore. Tata Capital head Human Resource Amar Sinhji said, “We are delighted to support the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in this noble initiative of popularising badminton on a non-profit basis. We feel proud of having invested in this initiative to help PPBA build a national centre of excellence 1/2 for badminton allowing talented young players from India the chance to achieve international success. Tata Capital is a young company in the Tata Group and we believe in nurturing young talent. We constantly seek out noble ways to identify and support young and emerging talent. Tata Capital’s association with Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy is a step in this direction.” Prakash Padukone said, "The success of the Bangalore centre encouraged us to establish another centre at Pune in 1999. This centre continues to cater to selected local youngsters and acts as a feeder unit to the elite Bangalore Centre. The Bangalore and Pune Academy has produced talent like Pulella Gopichand, Aparna Popat, Dipankar Bhattacharjee, Siddarth Jain, Nikhil Kanetkar, Sayali Gokhale (current national champion), Aditi Mutatkar (World No.38), Neha Padit and Gayatri Vartak. "This inspired the Academy to extend such facilities to aspiring young talents of Mumbai. We hope that the Mumbai centre will successfully groom many players who will excel at the highest level in the sport of badminton and make India proud." Padukone added, "The Tata Padukone Badminton Centre will be the finest of all academies in India.” The 2nd edition of the Tata Open All India Badminton Tournament 2009 will be held by the Academy at CCI in Mumbai in July. 2/2
