Food Drive is a Success!!!
The Beverly Hills Middle School Student Council hosts a food drive each
year. This year was a huge success! Beverly Hill’s students donated over
400 items. These items were organized by members of the BHMS student
council in the cafeteria. All items were donated to families in the community
who are unable to afford anything for Thanksgiving. Ten of these families
were families in the BHMS Community. Any extra items were sent to the
local food bank. Donations were made from all teams in all grade levels of
BHMS, but the teams with the most donations were the 7th Grade
Mechanics Team and the 6th Grade Lions Team. These teams have
received a prize for their efforts and contribution to the needy.

Art Class
When Beverly Hills opened it’s doors in , the goal was to provide students with an educational
experience that would teach students the core subjects along with electives in a state-of-theart environment. Beverly Hills was even architecturally designed with the elective course
environments being the cornerstone and heart of the building. For example, an apartment was
built on the second floor to teach students home economics. Because of the ever changing
laws, ideas and theories in education, the core subjects have dominated the curriculum and
elective class choices became extinct. Students were required to take specific classes with no
ability to choose electives. Upper Darby School District is bringing back elective class choices
to students at the middle school level. Each month a new class will be highlighted in our
School’s Paw Pride.
This month students in Mr. Holford's Elective Art Class completed the printmaking unit.
Students have created a “print” by etching or carving out linoleum tiles to make a stamp. Each
stamp produced from the print is considered an original artwork, not a copy. This unit stems
from a club that has been offered after school for the past two years and from Mr. Holford’s
background and interest in printmaking. Student’s prints show endangered and threatened
animals in Pennsylvania and were made to spread awareness for the cause. Currently, 6th
and 8th grade students are able to choose art as one of their electives. Below is a picture of
some of our student’s prints.
