the Strath Haven Middle School
Year of Service. The students,
teachers, staff and parents are
organizing events that are raising
money and awareness for CADES.
CADES has received great
visibility through the efforts of the
Strath Haven Middle School PTO
and at other events throughout
the fall semester.

Editors’ Spotlight: HR Department
When asked for one word to describe CADES’ HR
department, which is one of Claire Molton’s direct
reports- “phenomenal” shot right out of Claire’s
mouth.
Sandi Montalvo, Director of HR, who has been
employed by CADES for 25 years, oversees all
employment initiatives, benefits, payroll and

Mariann reports that the best part of her job is
processing payroll, which makes her feel great
each and every time. Mariann and her husband
can often be found at the Erin Pub on Friday
nights. Sandi’s one word for Mariann is “life saver.”
Lisa likes being the liaison and point person for CLA staff in regards to HR issues.
Lisa is an avid reader and likes spending time with her family. Sandi’s one word
for Lisa is “dependable.”
Jim has found that in his short time here at CADES, he has been given a warm
welcome and he looks forward to his new office. According to Jim, he and his
wife are one step away from being crazy cat people. Sandi’s one word for Jim is
“self-starter.”
On January 31, 2016, the Strath
Haven Middle School will host a
Putt-Putt Tournament at CADES.
Right now students and parents
are working to build 18 unique
golf holes. We will have 2 flights
of golf throughout the building
as well as other games, prizes
and great food. Sponsorship
opportunities are available
starting at $100 Hole Sponsor,
which will include your name on
sign at the hole. There is also a
$250 Main Sponsor which places
your name in the gymnasium,
invitation & public area, program
and school-wide emails. Please

Birthday!
“I have been with
CADES for 41 years,
39 of those have
been as Assistant
Director. I started
with CADES when
the agency was
United Cerebral
Palsy of Delaware
County located in Boothwyn. I have been privileged to see many changes--3
moves, 3 name changes, from serving about 100 children in preschool
and school aged programs to serving 700 children and adults per year in
early intervention, school, adult day and residential programs. As we, as
employees, when we approach 65 we start thinking about slowing down and
retiring. At 65, CADES is stronger than ever and is entering the “golden year”
full of life and vigor. Here’s to another 65 years!”, remarked Claire Molton,
Assistant Director
As CADES has grown, we aspire to transform every life we touch so that it is
filled with meaning, dignity, and wellbeing. We have strived to be a leader
in services for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
Through the care and commitment of our staff, we work towards our vision
of a community where all people with special needs receive the quality care
they require to ensure that every day is a meaningful day.
Starting a 6 PM, at the Springfield County Club, which is located at 400
West Sproul Road in Springfield, PA, please join us for an evening full of fun,
entertainment, great food and honor Bill Benson for his years of fulfilling
CADES’ mission.

After 39 years of dedicated service, Bill Benson announced
his retirement to the Board of Directors effective August 31,
2016. CADES (Children and Adult Disability and Educational
Services) has been fortunate to have had Bill’s expertise and
dedication for all these years. Bill has been a unique leader,
who by his own words, led by example. Bill is very humble
about his tenure at CADES and consistently has given credit
to staff and board for CADES’ growth. Many of the staff
came right from college and have professionally grown under
Bill’s guidance. Claire Molton, CADES’ Assistant Director,
comments:
“As the Assistant Director I have worked with Bill for 39 years. Having preceded his entry to what was then UCP
of Delaware County by about a year; apprehension soon gave way to a close working relationship. Bill is leaving a
great legacy”.
Also, Karl Thomas, President of CADES’ Board of Directors, who has served for almost 20 years, announced he will
step down at the end of his current term. Bill Benson, Executive Director remarked,
“CADES has been extremely privileged to have a Board Member like J. Karl Thomas. His generosity of time,
resources, along with getting the community involved with CADES, has been important to our successful growth.
I have the highest respect and gratitude for Karl’s guidance and leadership at CADES, for the last 19 years, 10 of
which have been as Board President.”
George Whitefield will move into the office of President of the Board.

Carolyn Konrad.
5th Annual BOWLING FOR CADES
Carolyn grew up in Ridley Township and has been working
for Aramark for 2 years at Ridley High School. Carolyn has
a soft spot for rescue animals and has adopted a Lapso/
Pyrenees from the SPCA. She has enjoyed getting
acquainted with CADES and is working on getting to know
everyone.
On Sunday, November 29, 2015, CADES had its 5th Annual Bowling
for CADES at Sproul Lanes in Springfield, PA. Over 150 folks came
out to bowl and enjoy an afternoon of family fun to cap off their
Thanksgiving weekend. Thanks to the hard work of Bob and Mary
Gene Woods and their merry band of volunteers, over $10,000 was
raised for CADES Renovation Fund. Pictured -left to right- are Mary
Gene Woods, CADES’ board member, Jimmy Jones and his parents.

PE Rocks with Dana
Dana Ritchie-Health PE Instructor filled in for
Bernadette Ascareggi. Dana graduated from West
Chester University and has been subbing
for other schools and working as a resource for
teachers. She talked about how meaningful the
work at CADES was and how much it meant to her.

SuSan Barrie and Carlos Hargrave from
Bayada Nursing are helping to cover
nursing duties while Leslie was out.
Thanks from the Adult Day Program!
For over 11 years, various Girl Scouts troops in the Garnet Valley
school district have prepared snacks and holiday crafts and joined
our residents for singing holiday songs. Coordinated by Troop
52 & 5702 leaders Karen Watson and Kristin Diggins, the girls do
this as a part of their community service and giving back to the
community. When you are a Girl Scout, you make a promise to
uphold the Girl Scout Law which addresses making the world a
better place. This event, which has an impressive eleven years
running, serves as a service opportunity for them and has become
a tradition in our program.
