BOULDER, Colo. – Bracketing its award-‐winning Spark trail platform with new trail-‐running shoes that are lighter and more nimble on one end of the spectrum and more supportive and protective on the other, SCARPA North America is introducing three new trail shoes, each in men’s and women’s specific models, for spring 2014. The additions to SCARPA’s trail-‐running line round out a comprehensive line with differing amounts of trail protection, weights and support tailored for different styles of trail running. For instance, the Ignite balances a more traditional, protective design with the trend toward minimalism and less heel-‐to-‐forefoot drop. The Ion is a minimalist yet very protective shoe built for those who want a minimal platform for long-‐distance and/or very rugged runs in alpine terrain. And the TRU is both a race-‐day shoe and a shoe for someone who wants an extremely light, nimble ride, but one that offers a solid amount of trail protection underfoot. SCARPA IGNITE SCARPA ION SCARPA TRU Ignite – Striking the balance between a more traditional and protective trail-‐running shoe and the trend toward minimalism, the SCARPA Ignite is very flexible and lightweight (10.2 ounces per shoe, size 42), yet still offers serious trail protection. Ideal for people tackling longer-‐distances on the trail, the Ignite pairs an 18mm heel with a 10 mm forefoot. Injected EVA midsoles mean longer life and a more dynamic feel. A thin high-‐density EVA trail plate offers added protection in the forefoot. The Speed Track outsole uses a very aggressive design with 4.5mm-‐deep lugs for traction and angular lugs on the back to assist with braking, along with a exclusive rubber compound that offers better traction and durability. Air mesh uppers are balanced with a webbing exoskeleton for support and responsiveness. Available in men’s and women’s fits. $125. -‐ more-‐ Ion – Built for runners seeking a more supportive yet minimal shoe for rugged runs in the alpine, the SCARPA Ion combines an air mesh upper with a synthetic leather exoskeleton for superb lateral stability and a protective toe rand – excellent for dealing with rocky trails and talus. Underfoot, a 14mm heel counter and an 8mm forefoot, combined with a 1.2mm high-‐density EVA trail plate, balances a minimal feel with excellent trail protection. A partial integrated stretch tongue gaiter underneath the lacing/tongue area helps keep trail debris out of the shoe, and a heel rand helps offer a responsive, performance fit. On the sole, a sticky rubber compound aids traction in alpine terrain. Available in men’s and women’s fits. $119. TRU – The SCARPA TRU trail runner is an ultra-‐light race shoe with a featherweight chassis that still offers a solid level of support and trail protection. The uppers are built with a non-‐stretchy, very lightweight monofilament mesh with synthetic leather welded into key structural areas. Along with offering excellent support, this design also makes them exceptionally breathable. Add a more minimalist midsole/sole package with 14/8mm drop, along with a high-‐tensile fabric forefoot strike plate, and the 8.5-‐ounce TRU is a performance machine for times when weight is at a premium. Available in men’s and women’s fits. $109. BOULDER, Colo. – There’s no singular kind of trip in the mountains. Different people have different needs – whether it’s rolling trails or talus hopping across granite. SCARPA’s newest additions in its Light Hiking and Approach categories for spring 2014 blend categories and construction techniques to result in a line of trail footwear that addresses a wide variety of needs. SCARPA once again brings innovation to the performance mountain footwear technology category with its SOCK-‐FIT design in the new Zen Pro. This technology was first used in SCARPA’s alpine-‐
climbing boots, a project that involved alpinist Ueli Steck, and it is now being adapted for use in lighter trail shoes. Zen Pro – The Zen Pro is a technical approach shoe featuring SCARPA’s new SOCK-‐FIT design, which reduces bulk, allows the shoe to more readily adapt to a user’s foot, and improves responsiveness and precision on the trail. First pioneered in 2012 in the SCARPA Rebel series alpine climbing boots, pioneered working with alpinist Ueli Steck, SOCK-‐FIT means that the tongue and mini-‐
gusset are made from a single piece of S-‐Tech Schoeller® elastic fabric. As well, because the tongue is constructed without the excess materials found in a standard tongue gusset, it also helps repel trail debris more effectively. The outsole platform features an injected EVA midsole and the Vibram® Spyder2 outsole with sticky rubber for grip on rock and talus. The suede leather upper is reinforced with a rubber toe rand, and TPU is over-‐
injected in critical wear areas. ACocona® lining helps with moisture management and keeps odor at bay. $169. Mystic Lite GTX – Combining approach function with urban aesthetics, the Mystic Lite GTX is an all-‐suede SCARPA shoe that seamlessly crosses from light hiking and approach uses to casual kicking around town. A Vibram® Vertical sole built exclusively for SCARPA handles traction in rocky terrain with grip that is stickier than most light hikers. A diamond stitching pattern on the upper -‐more-‐ contributes both to support and offers a unique look, and cushioning is thanks to a compression-‐
molded EVA midsole. Available in men’s and women’s fits. $119. Vitamin – Inspired by feedback from climbing and mountain guides in the Dolomites, the Vitamin is the shoe to reach for when you need a single pair of footwear for a long approach followed by a technical climb and descent. The package starts with a polyurethane midsole, which is much more shock-‐absorbing than EVA, and dual-‐density construction puts softer materials where ideal for walking and firmer material elsewhere for climbing performance and durability. The Vitamin then employs SCARPA’s exclusive Vibram® Vertical Approach sole, which climbs more effectively and provides better traction for descending loose terrain. Other details include suede construction, which molds to the foot, asymmetric lacing down to the toe for excellent fit and control, a durable stretch material in the ankle collar for comfort, and a Cocona® lining for moisture management and odor resistance. $199. BOULDER, Colo. – Climbing, in all its various forms, is ultimately about precision. In particular, footwork needs to be on the mark to succeed, whether it’s an all-‐day alpine route or a hard sport project. That’s why, in SCARPA rock shoes, there’s not one but three different types of active randing systems, designed to yield precision in different aspects of the sport. Active randing is an innovative idea. Rather than simply pushing the foot as far forward in the shoe as possible, SCARPA critically tensions the rubber rands on the exterior of its rock shoes in different directions to cradle and support the foot, allowing the shoe to dynamically adapt while loading and unloading body weight, effectively storing and releasing power, and also directing power to desired areas of the shoe. The result is a new level of power and sensitivity for steep technical climbing. Two new SCARPA rock shoes for spring 2014 use different versions of active randing to achieve pinnacle shoes for different aspects of climbing. SCARPA TECHNO X SCARPA STIX SCARPA VITAMIN Techno X – From face climbing on dime edges to splitter cracks and smearing on slabs, the Techno Pro is a supportive but performance-‐driven all-‐day rock shoe. This flat-‐lasted shoe employs SCARPA’s bi-‐tension active rands, which direct power to the front of the shoe without sacrificing all-‐day comfort. Upper construction combines suede with key areas of Microsuede synthetic leather, which conforms to your foot but won’t stretch out over time. Details include toe rands that offer excellent coverage and protection, as well as Vibram® XS Edge rubber, which excels for climbing on thin edges and cracks. If you’re looking for a very technical, performance-‐driven shoe that’s also flat-‐lasted and comfortable, the Techno X is it. Men’s and women’s fits. $145. -‐more-‐ Stix – A slipper for the most high-‐end projects, and the lightest rock shoe in the SCARPA collection at 180 grams, the Stix offers power for steep, overhanging routes paired with sensitivity and agility that is close to climbing barefoot. Underfoot, SCARPA’s X-‐tension rand system directs power to the front and toe area of the shoe for ultra-‐precise footwork. Precision fit comes from a narrow heel pocket and Microsuede synthetic leather construction that stretches but won’t stretch out over time, along with thermo-‐molded rubber ribs over an elastic tongue. Two additional elastic panels on either side of the shoe delivers a precise fit. On the sole, Vibram® XS Grip2 rubber provides super-‐sticky purchase, and a rubber toe patch aids hooking. If you love the SCARPA Instinct S but want more power for steeper terrain, look no further than the Stix. $149. Vitamin – Inspired by feedback from climbing and mountain guides in the Dolomites, the Vitamin is the shoe to reach for when you need a single pair of footwear for a long approach followed by a technical climb and descent.
