God’s People in In Action
Glorify God in all we do,
Grow with Him daily and
Go with Him to share His
This is what I have discovered in the past week, it does get warm in Iowa! As we enter into June we
see God continue to make His presence known in so many ways. What a blessing to know He is in
control. I hope our sermon series on Heroes has been encouraging. I know God does want to use you
in extraordinary ways. Open yourself up and see what God can do!
I am also grateful at this time for the generosity, kindness and love that you have expressed in reaching out to those in need. We are growing in being the face of Christ and there is amazing blessing that
has been seen. I think those Fruit of the Spirit are being produced! I want to encourage you to show
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control in your daily living. May we
continue to grow to be a church that is known for how we love those within our church and in the community.
Some new things are happening I would like to inform you of. First, beginning June 11 we will begin a
third worship service for the summer. Because many individuals are busy on the weekends, we would
love for you to join us in worship on Wednesdays. The message preached will be that from Sunday
and we will still have some singing. We will be meeting in the fireside room at 6:30 pm. We would
love to see you if you missed Sunday and for you to encourage others whom you know were gone on
the weekend to join us. I am looking forward to what God will do with this time.
Second, beginning June 8 we will begin a new sermon series on “Parables”. Jesus Christ gave us great
stories within our scriptures that provide us with a spiritual meaning to how we can live our lives. I
am looking forward to sharing God’s Word through these life illustrations. As we move through the
summer I would encourage you to make the extra effort to join us. I have found such blessing in our
gathering together.
Third, our youth programs have changed. I want to remind parents that both Deep Impact and C4 will
be meeting through the summer. I am leading Deep Impact and we are now meeting on Sunday’s at
7:30 pm unless the time is otherwise posted. Rochelle will be meeting with the C4 in small groups. See
either myself or Rochelle for schedules.
Finally I waPnt to talk about work projects. In July we will be having a work project for the senior citizens within the church. Our goal and vision is that in the coming years we will be offering many more
projects for a variety of ages as a way for us to serve. I find great value in these kinds of projects.
Work Projects give us an opportunity to serve. Scripture tells us to “Go out and make disciples….” In
work projects we have the chance to use our gifts and talents to serve.
Many things are happening, God is at work, and we have the chance to grow in Christ. I am excited
what God will do this summer and know that we will be privileged to change lives!
Proud to be your Pastor!

May has been a really fun and amazing month in the lives of our young people once
again! We had a fantastic middle school retreat, youth praise team lead worship a few
Sundays, three young women professed faith in Jesus Christ, thirteen young people
graduated from high school and many other individual milestones for our young people!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the time given to me by God and the consistory of our
church to spend laughing, growing, sharing, and learning with our young people. God
has allowed me to grow in love for each and every one of the children and young people
of our church. They are all such wonderful creations of God, unique and amazing in
such a way only God could create!
I want to thank our sponsors, Gina Jacobsma, Kelly Jacobsma, Larry and Melissa DeBoer, and Marlin Runia for their support, input and lots of help this year! I couldn’t
have made it through the remainder of the year without all of you! You are loved as
dear brothers and sisters in Christ for all God has led you to do for our youth! Thank
you from the bottom of my heart!
I also want to thank the Consistory, Christian Education Ministry Team, and our staff,
Pastor Luke, Brenda Post, and Jeannette Juffer for all of your support, help and encouragement through this interim time in the youth position! Words cannot express
how I value each of you for your confidence in me to carry our kids through the rest
of this past year.
I thank God for my husband, Kelly and my precious son and daughter, Ben and Hannah.
They have had to sacrifice time together as a family, laundry not being done always,
and many other things that were set aside so I could focus on our youth program. I
love you all more than life itself. You are God’s greatest blessings to me!
To our youth, and to all who have had any experience with me in youth group, Sunday
school, meetings, time in activities, or just visiting at church, I will close with thanking
God for all of you and share with you exactly where my heart is with all of you:
Philippians 1 says: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for
all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the Gospel from the
first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will
carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” “It is right for me to feel
this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or
defending and confirming the Gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can
testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.”
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and
depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and
blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes
through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.” Praise God from whom all
blessings flow! -

Greetings from Jackson County Ministries to you! This week we are enjoying the wonders of God's
work in sending us approximately 1 inch of snow – a rare event before Thanksgiving. Two of my children, Abigail and Nathan and I enjoyed ourselves playing in it and reveling in its beauty (before it
melted). As we prepare for a season of thanksgiving, we have much to be thankful for in Annville.
A short list of praise items:
>the continued willingness and servant's hearts of volunteers who keep coming and investing their
time, gifts and money to enrich the lives of others.
>the incremental transformation of the campus from dilapidated buildings to ones that are functional,
beautiful and utilized by the community.
>having Beth's Blessing, the women's drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, remain on our campus
with an amazing investment.
>the opportunity that God continues to provide for the Housing Ministry to be part of peoples lives,
improving their homes and being present in word and deed.
>resources to serve those in need, Jackson County still has a poverty rate of 35%
>a year where every mission group who committed to come and serve did come and serve – no cancellations.
Darlene and myself traveled last week to Massachusetts and enjoyed viewing one of Leah's swim
meets live. Leah achieved a season "Best time" in her 100 m breaststroke. She continues to enjoy
college life at Smith and recently selected sociology as her major with a minor in sports medicine.
For a third season, I am coaching Abigail for the CHAT Homeschool volleyball team. Watching and
experiencing the growth and development of the girls has been incredibly rewarding. After two long
seasons of development we are reaping some rewards of victories. None-the-less its exciting and rewarding work.
The boys, Nathan and Reuben, continue to enjoy their relationship with their neighborhood friends –
Jaden and Caleb Shumacher. Nathan participated in his first hunting trip into Daniel Boone forest this
fall – a truly climactic experience
John Calvin encapsulates a heart of thankfulness for believers: "Finally, we are almost overwhelmed
with such great and copious effusions of Gods beneficence; we are surrounded, wherever we turn our
eyes, by such numerous and amazing miracles of his hand, that we never lack matter for praise and
thanksgiving".
I thank you for your loving kindness in prayers and gifts in support of our family.
Blessings,
The Van Hoeves

month of June. Co-chairpersons are Luella and Harold Eggink, Jan and John

Dear All,
Celebrate with us! Yesterday our daughter Michelle graduated from Rosslyn Academy (a Christian High
School in Nairobi). We are so thankful for God's hand on her life.
While every milestone is one to celebrate, we have learned over the last six months that nothing can be
taken for granted and this was a huge achievement. Michelle has been ill since November and it was a real struggle
for her to complete all that was required of her to graduate. In fact she had to stop going to school and work from
home.
Pray for Michelle's continued health. With frequent near fainting spells, heart palpitations and extreme
fatigue the doctors here think it is something called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. However, we will
be coming to the U.S. in June for further tests.
If Michelle feels well enough she will begin studying elementary education at Hope College in August.
Thanks as always for your prayers.

Sportsmen's Devotional
Bible Study Verse: I Samuel 17:34-37b But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending
his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock, I went out
after him and attacked him, and rescued it from his mouth; and when he rose up against
me, I seized him by his beard and struck him and killed him. Your servant has killed both
the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he
has taunted the armies of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me
from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of
this Philistine.” (NASB)
Thoughts: I know I have written about David in the past, but just can’t seem to get
enough of him. David the sweet writer and singer of songs, David the poet; David the musician, and David the boy who grabbed a lion by his beard struck him, and killed him! Wait
a minute! Did you read that right? You bet you did! What a man! David did that when he
was just a boy tending his father’s sheep. No wonder he went on to be such a famous
warrior. This guy was fearless! What was his secret? No secret at all! He comes right out
and says ”The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the
bear.” He did not take credit for anything. He knew that apart from the Lord, he was nothing. Too bad Samson didn’t learn that lesson earlier; his outcome might have been much
different. Yes, we know that David had his share of sins. Terrible, horrible sins to boot!
But even then he knew what to do, repent and take it to the Lord! “Against you—you
alone—I have sinned,” he said, Psalms 51:4a (HCSB) (Dave H.)
Action Point: We need role models in our lives. We need to teach our children the right
way to live. Yes, of course we should always consider “What Would Jesus Do”, WWJD, but
we should also study about the great men of the Bible. They are put there for a reason.
They are put there for us to learn from. Remember folks these aren’t just some tall stories
told around the camp fire, These are gospel. What is recorded is actually what happened.
David was not given any supernatural strength as Samson was given. He was given one
thing, a heart for God. Pray that the Lord would give you this same heart, the same heart
that was also given to our Lord. Your children can learn so much from studying the lives of
these men. They will hopefully learn to draw from the strengths of these people and to
avoid their weaknesses. More than anything else they will know who to turn to and that
they are no less of a man or woman for admitting their mistakes and falling their faces in
front of the Lord.
Sportsmen’s Tip for the Day: David did not use a slingshot made out of surgical tubing
like we have today. It can be a fun project for you and the kids to construct one like he
used. He would have taken two cords of leather that can easily be had from Tandy or any
leather supply store (or make your own from your next deer). Even heavy duty shoe laces
can be used. Take a piece of leather or cloth material about one inch wide and two or
three inches long, punch a hole in each of the long ends of the cloth and attach one of the
leather cords to each hole you have made The cloth forms a pocket into which you place
the stone or other object you wish to throw. Hold the two loose ends of the cord together
in your hand and swing them over your head like you have seen Argentinean cowboys
swing a bolo. Release the end of one of the cords and launch your projectile toward a safe
target A word to the wise: practice this in the wide open spaces till you get the hang of it!
We don’t want to break any windows or heads!

JUNE FAITH IN ACTION
Bible School is the first week in June.
Sign up to help in some way. Donate paper items, make cookies, bars. Volunteer to
be a leader, offer to baby sit.
jj’s jottings
Summer vacation is full swing and we tend to forget about school. However there is a way you can
help the schools even in the summer and that is by saving Campbell labels, Our
Family UPC codes, General Mills Box Tops, Pizza Ranch covered wagons and
pop tabs. All of these are collected either by the school or the day care. I happen
to know that S-O Elementary has containers right in the entry way for you to deposit them so you won’t even have to go into the school. And if it is easier for
you to give them to me, I will be happy to see that they get to the right place. So
please be aware of what can or box you are opening and check to see if there is
an opportunity for you to help the school!!
Please be sure to check the books in the church library we frequently have new
ones out. Maybe you are going on vacation and need a book along to pass the
time in the car or while you are sitting by the camp fire relaxing. There is a wide
variety of books available.
Speaking of books, we have had a number of books donated to the library and we
want to thank you for thinking of the church library. I will not mention any
names because I might forget someone but you know who you are and know that
we really appreciate your donation. We have been fortunate in that the books donated are not duplicates and are good additions to our collection in the library.
