Facts About The Earnings Tax
On April 5th, residents of Kansas City, Missouri will have on
the ballot the choice of whether or not to maintain the Kansas
City earnings tax for the next five years. The purpose of this
article is to provide readers information before they go to the
polls. The ballot issue is not asking residents of Kansas City
to approve a new tax or a tax increase. Kansas City's
Finance Department reports the Kansas City earnings tax
brings in 40% of the city's general fund every year­that's

Volleyball Beach Winter Dome Attracts
People To Martin City
We are lucky to be able to say, Martin City has the largest
beach volleyball dome in the country! The new winter dome
at Volleyball Beach is a whopping 320 feet x 120 feet, and
40 feet high. There are only three sand volleyball operations
under air domes in the U.S. (Volleyball Beach is the
largest). and guess what? The new Volleyball Beach air
dome is actually the largest air dome (for any reason) in
Kansas City. That's great news for Martin City because we
know it's already bringing more people to our growing

Construction Update: March 2016
Anyone who has traveled along 135th Street between Wornall and Oak Streets recently has likely
seen a lot of dirt being moved around and traffic being delayed. All of this activity is due to the
installation of the 66" stormwater line on the south side of 135th Street. The contractor hopes to
complete the installation in the month of March. Upon completion of the storm water line, the
construction team will begin working on the street surface along with pouring new curbs and
sidewalks. The contractors will NOT begin working on the
street surface until some time AFTER March 14th, so our 29th
Annual Martin City St. Patrick's Parade on March 13th will not

MMC Contractors Helps One Of It's Own And
Gets Involved With "Parker Loves Life"
Martin City is a great place to do business because we are a
tight­knit community. Everyone is willing to step up and help
when someone's in need. One community member recently
learned this first­hand. Jeff Tyler is the business development
manager at MMC Contractors, a national mechanical
contractor company with an office in Martin City, MO. Parker
Monhollon is an 8­year­old from Topeka. She dances with
Tyler's daughter, and Tyler jokes she was the first girl his son
asked to be his girlfriend. In January, Parker went for a routine
eye exam. The doctor noticed something unusual, which led to
several other doctor visits and an MRI the same day. Read

5K Whiskey Run Race Is Fast Approaching!
You are invited to participate in the 4th annual Whiskey Run
5K race in Martin City. The race is at 8:30am on Sunday
morning, March 13th, kicking off our 29th annual Irishpalooza
St. Patrick's parade celebration! The 5K is chip­timed, and you
can register as an individual or as part of a team of 4 or more
for a discount. The 5K is followed by a fun run of 50­200 yards
for kids ages 8 and under. All participants get a race t­shirt, a
glass mug and a FREE post­race brunch from RC's
