The Leadership Lee County Community Leadership Program is a unique program offered by The Chamber of Southwest Florida to help newcomers as well as long-term residents understand the dynamics of the Lee County community and its role in the region. The Chamber developed the course for local residents and business persons interested in intensive learning. A Historical Perspective Looking Back The program includes an overview designed to educate participants on Lee County’s history and plans for the future. The 14-session class includes an inside look into community government, health and human services, environmental programs and other areas. The program covers history, social, and economic issues in the community Leadership Lee County includes a walking tour of downtown Fort Myers, including a visit to the SW Florida Historical Museum. Team Building, Community Awareness A kickoff retreat solidifies relationships and expands individual thinking – broadening personal experiences and knowledge You’ll exchange ideas, make new friends and have fun! You’ll Reach New Heights… The Sky’s the Limit!!! The Ropes Course, part of the Southwest Florida Addiction Services at the Vince Smith Center, is a great opportunity for participants to open their minds to new ways of thinking and to learn to be both trusted and trusting. Learn to trust others… Work with partners to solve the seemingly impossible problems. Agriculture in our Region A visit to Southern Gardens Citrus… Did you know??? With more than 3 million trees, Southern Gardens is one of Florida’s largest growers. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to wear a hard hat and shower cap! And, yes, we’ll take your picture dressed like this! On Agriculture Day, the class boards a bus and experiences a day of farm, citrus processing plant, sugar cane refinery, etc. Members of the agriculture community talk to the class about agricultural issues and concerns. Though not in Lee County, the agriculture community has a tremendous impact on our region. …Get close to nature….. You’ll have an opportunity to learn more about SW Florida’s natural environment Impress your classmates with hidden skills Win a valuable award! Meet interesting people… Visit some places you never thought you would see! LLC Class of 2009 Visits the Lee County Medical Examiner Get the inside track on TV and Newspaper Production…. David Plazas of the News-Press Editorial talks with the LLC Class of 2010 Steve Pontius give a behind the scenes tour of Waterman Broadcasting Get dirty for a good cause! LLC increases an awareness of needs within our community. Class of 2010 painted a home with Habitat for Humanity Class of 2008 erected a shade structure for Hope House Class of 2009 built a playground for Salvation Army Learn more about our education systems Spend a day in a public school classroom and visit our local higher education campuses.
