“In The Future Love Will Also” Premieres At Brooklyn Film Festival, June 6 and 7
Last chapter in trilogy on surveillance, privacy and identity in post-9-11/post-Snowden world
May 12, 2015, New York, NY-- Fusing moving images, stills, visual effects and static whiteouts, the
New York-made film In The Future Love Will Also will premiere at the Brooklyn Film Festival on
June 6 and 7. The short, which explores memories of a future love story, is a collaboration between
New York filmmaker Clayton Allis and Brooklyn-based artist/musician Alfie Lee. It is the final
chapter in co-director Allis' trilogy about surveillance, privacy and identity in a post-9-11/postSnowden world.
In The Future Love Will Also was inspired by a series of works by co-director Lee, in which he had
whited himself out of each image. In erasing his identify, Lee ended up drawing attention to it. In this
collaboration, Allis and Lee explore issues of identity and memory, and what is left over even when
everything is erased and nothing is private. They show us that even in a dehumanized void, something
essential within the human spirit continues to exist, and stubbornly refuses to go quietly into that good
night. The film continues this contradiction in its look. Although set in the future, it is anchored in an ‘80s
post-punk sensibility, saturated with fluorescent neons; its dark themes highlighted with bouncy indie pop
by Lee.

In The Future Love Will Also tells the oldest story there is, set in an unknown future, where making
images is forbidden by all except those in power – they alone reserve the right to see all and control what
the masses remember. Through their lens we see them pick through a couple’s intimate memories, and
begin to erase the man and woman from their own love story.
In The Future Love Will Also closes the trilogy, which includes :/RUN, filmed entirely from the
perspective of surveillance cameras; and What the Fuck Doug E. Doug, which shows what
happens when the cameras do not stop rolling even when reality breaks down.
SYNOPSIS
If our memories can be seized and our identities erased, would we lose ourselves? In the sometime
future, in an unnamed city that is under constant surveillance, a man tries to hold onto what little he
has left by obsessively photographing his surroundings, even though making images is forbidden in
his world - they control what you try to remember. But in her, he finds something solid and real. The
man and woman soon find themselves under investigation. We watch as the young couple’s
intimate memories, their hopes, longings, and fears are picked through. While they are slowly being
erased from their own love story, we find out what remains. In flashes, we capture snippets of the
oldest story there is. In The Future Love Will Also happen, save, betray, fulfill, fall apart, be worth
dying for, mend, destroy, survive, find a way, exist…
