McClurg Court Center residents now protected
with a fire sprinkler system after building owners
chose to retrofit.
After purchasing the McClurg Court
Center twin towers, RMK Management
Corporation began a six-month project
to modernize the building's life safety
systems including the installation of
a fire sprinkler system, providing the
maximum fire safety protection for
1,080 residential units as well as
occupants in the common areas
and commercial space.
Although Chicago’s Fire Sprinkler
ordinance only requires life safety
evaluations for residential buildings,
the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code
101 2000 Edition, adopted by the
Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office,
requires existing high-rise buildings
in excess of 75 feet in height, to be
equipped with fire sprinklers, or an
engineered life safety system.
The Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler
Advisory Board salutes RMK
Management for voluntarily choosing
to retrofit McClurg Court Center for
the safety of the property, its residents
and Chicago firefighters.
