On behalf of our club, the new officers want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Jerry Tucker. Words cannot express how much we appreciate what Jerry has done for Carolina AMC over the years. As our club president, Jerry has been the driving force behind our club in so many ways. Carolina AMC has thrived because of the efforts of many members, but no one has contributed more than Jerry in helping us grow, keeping us going, and giving so much of his time. Jerry has been such an influence to all of us, totally devoted to his friends and family within Carolina AMC. At our club meeting, Jerry passed the torch of club president to Robert Mills. Robert has always been one of our most active and involved club members. Jerry’s nomination of Robert was received with unanimous approval. While we are excited about what 2010 will bring, we look back at everything Jerry & Sharon did to get us where we are as a club...and want to say ‘thank you’! CAMC will be hosting the SE Regional this year! This is Frank Swygert, elected chairman of the SE Regional committee for CAMC. Late in 2008 Peach State AMO, headquartered in Atlanta, GA, announced that they would not be hosting the annual AMC South East Regional in 2009. I took it upon myself to bring this up at the CAMC annual meeting in November 2008 to discuss the possibility of CAMC hosting the Regional for 2009. It was determined that it would be tight, but we could do it if there would otherwise not be a Regional. I emailed Cliff Danley of First Coast AMC (Jacksonville, FL) and discussed the matter. First Coast had a show already scheduled for November, and we decided that it might be best to incorporate the Regional with that show since anything else would be hard to pull off. Those who went said that it was okay, but the show was held in conjunction with a Mopar show and AMC attendees were overshadowed by the mass of Chrysler products. It was better than skipping the annual AMC Regional, but we really need an AMC only show! One thing that came from the conversations leading to the Florida show was that we really needed to start a rotation schedule to give Peach State a break and to spread the cost and efforts of producing the show over the three main south east clubs -- Carolina, Peach State, and First Coast. Peach State lost a lot of money on the 2007 event due to the contract they had with the hotel. High gas prices and an availability crunch in Atlanta drove attendance down and contracted rooms were not filled. Normally this wouldn't have been a problem, and having contracted rooms would have reduced the overall cost of the event. Representatives from all three clubs determined that we would start a rotation with each club hosting every third year, with First Coast taking the first rotation in 2009, Carolina taking 2010, and Peach State again taking the lead in 2011. So we will be hosting this year, then again in 2013. I was elected to be the chairman for the CAMC hosted SE Regional. After some discussion, we decided to have the show in South Carolina this year. The majority of CAMC members are in the Charlotte, NC area, but the club does cover both Carolinas. We haven't had a major show in SC, so this will be a good time. The next SE Regional CAMC hosts will most likely be somewhere in NC. It is my hope that we alternate the SE Regional between the two states in the future, but that will depend a lot on who volunteers to do most of the leg work! Our new President, Robert Mills, Tommy Elmore, and myself will be doing most of the work this time. As of now we haven't determined an exact location, but will select a location no later than Feb. 1, 2010. This weekend we're going to a big shopping center in Santee, at the intersection of I-26 and I-95, which is 2.5 hours from Charlotte. I hope this won't be too far for most members! The date is tentatively the first weekend in October. This will be finalized by the end of February. If you have concerns about the distance, suggestions for locations, or any questions about the SE Regional please contact me, preferably by e-mail ([email protected]), but I will take phone calls at 803-604-6548. Leave a message if I don't answer and I'll call back! Page 2 November Club Meeting Update Jerry & Sharon Tucker hosted our Fall club meeting and we had a great time (as always). The food was wonderful (thanks Sharon) and it was great to see everyone and their cars. Long standing club president, Jerry Tucker, passed the torch of leading our club to VP Robert Mills. Jerry’s recommendation for Robert to take over as president and Tommy Elmore as VP and Event Coordinator met with unanimous approval by everyone there. Derek Dorroh will be the membership chairman and continue managing the website and newsletter, and Jonathan Tucker will continue as club treasurer. Clubmember and AMC enthusiast Frank Swygert was elected to be the event chairman for the upcoming 2010 AMO Southest Regional. Enjoy these photos from the club meeting. Y THIS (micro-size version also available online) CLUB DINNER AT THE FALL AUTOFAIR IN CHARLOTTE If you haven’t joined us on Saturday night during the Autofair, then make plans for next year. We had a great time at Chilis talking and laughing (and maybe a few drinks here and there). One of the best things about Carolina AMC is the what you get out of being a member just for ‘being there’ for events. We were also exciting to see clubmember Ron Priebe who joined us that night driving his all original 69 AMX, still looking great after 40 years!
