by TRHOF President Gary Beaty
Just about everyone in
Tennessee knows, and looks
forward to hearing the words,
“It's football time in Tennessee!” That's the phrase created
by Hall of Famer Bobby Denton
on the Vol Radio Network, and
Bob Kesling continues the
tradition today. We're at that
time now, early September, and
it's exciting.
membership meetings all across the state. The next
official board meeting will be in Knoxville, on October,
17th, with board members Cindy Arnold and Johnny
Pirkle co-ordinating! An announcement of the location will
be made in the newsletter you’ll receive October 1st.
Keep Calm...
Gary
It's also the beginning of another exciting "time" - a
period of evaluation and examination of the careers of
those whose names and achievements have been
submitted for induction into The Tennessee Radio Hall
of Fame. Read all about it on page 2 of this issue of
E-Waves!
We have received more than 15 nominations for
consideration in the Career category, which according
to our new process, will require an online vote of
all members to narrow the list to that number. Once the
membership vote narrows the list to 15, the board of
directors will use that list to select the six inductees. As
always, the board and the Advisory Council will select
the Legacy inductees and the Legendary Station of the
Year in a meeting later in the year.
Thanks also to all who participated for our two
meetings in August. We took a great trip to Bristol to
the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, on
August 8th. We enjoyed barbeque and met with broadcasters in Memphis on August 22nd. Read about both
adventures on pages 3 and 4 of this issue.
It was great to meet new members at both locations,
and we look forward to future encounters at board and

Bristol Visit: Birthplace of Country Music Museum
by Melissa McDonald, Secretary
We arrived in Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia on a beautiful, sunny Saturday
morning, and the day just got better from there. The Birthplace of Country Music
Museum is a wonder of interactive history, and a credit to those who brought it to
life. Enjoy the pictures, and plan a visit of your own.

of the museum, served as tour
guide for the group. She is pictured

McDonald and Johnny Pirkle.

Memphis Visit: Barbeque and Good Times

A large crowd enjoyed some authentic Memphis barbeque
and good conversation on August 22, during the
Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame’s latest visit to the Bluff
City.

Out & About
What’s going on with members of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame? And who are they meeting along the way?
That’s why we publish short stories in Out & About.
TRHOF members are invited to send news about awards, encounters with radio or entertainment greats and
other news of interest for possible publication in E-Waves. Please send the information, along with pictures (if you have
them) to Melissa McDonald at [email protected] . The submission deadline is the 20th of each month.
Tommy Jett
Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame
Career Inductee Tommy Jett celebrated
and was celebrated in August. The
18th annual Tommy Jett Entertainers’
Reunion gathered friends and fans
together in Chattanooga on August
23rd.
Sky Zoo Bar and Grill was the
location for the eight-hour event. The
proceeds raised were donated to the
Veterans Homelessness Task Force, via
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke’s office.

Brian Craig
Brian Craig, Board
Member, recently had
a chance to meet and
talk
with
legendary
rock ‘n roller Chubby
Checker. Craig, the
entertainer and Buzz
Cason even discussed
the famous 60s dance
and song, The Twist,
which was Checker’s
biggest hit.

Two very happy TRHOF Board Members were part
of the crowds filling the infields at the NASCAR race at
Bristol on August 23rd. ‘Nuff said!
