Visitors Guide Welcome to Mansfield, Texas Mansfield is a growing city with a rich heritage and bright future. With quality as a goal in everything from development and public facilities to education and recreation, Mansfield is recognized as one of the best places to live, work and play in the country. Its location in the south center of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex provides easy access to attractions, cultural and athletic events, dining and shopping and business centers across the region. We look forward to sharing that spirit with visitors to our city and to the North Texas region. Calendar of Events Are you ready to play? Mansfield’s ”Got Game” when it comes to having fun. From recreation and sports to music festivals and holiday celebrations, the year brings a variety of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy the community’s smalltown hospitality and charm. The natural beauty and serenity of Walnut Creek Linear Park is highlighted each January as Mansfield celebrates its parks system and encourages healthy living with the annual Winter Walk. The community walk along the trails of Walnut Creek Linear Park is the last Saturday of January and draws walkers, runners and bikers to Mansfield, and ends with a health fair at Town Park. The holiday season in Mansfield kicks off the first weekend in December with Hometown Holidays, a community wide celebration that begins on Friday night with the lighting of the city Christmas tree, visits with Santa Claus, fireworks, food, music and family entertainment. On Saturday, historic downtown Mansfield comes alive with the sounds of the season at the Hometown Holidays Parade as floats, horses, marching bands and Santa take to Main Street. On Sunday, the Women’s Division of the Chamber hosts the annual Tour of Homes, showcasing some of the city’s most beautifully decorated homes. One of the most honored one-city, one-book programs in the country takes place each April with Mansfield Reads! The month-long event asks residents to join together to read the selected book and participate in discussion groups and other special activities. Mansfield Reads! culminates in an Calendar of Events evening with the featured author. Several best-selling and awardwinning authors have come to the city to share the community’s love of reading. The Town Park Amphitheater is alive with music each spring and fall with the “Night on the Town” concert and film series. The Saturday evening gathering alternately brings live music or family-friendly films to the park. Picnics and lawn chairs are encouraged. The spring fun starts in March with the annual Pickle Parade & Palooza in historic downtown. Start by running in the Pickle Palooza 5K or 10K on the Linear Park trail, watch the World’s Only St. Paddy’s Pickle Parade, and enjoy the after party on Main Street in historic downtown. Mansfield is the Pickle Capitol of Texas. It’s rockets, recreation and rock n’ roll in Mansfield each July. “Rockin’ 4th of July” has quickly become a favorite of residents and visitors who gather at Big League Dreams Mansfield Sports Park on Independence Day. There’s food, family entertainment and live rock n’ roll music leading up to the spectacular fireworks display, regarded as one of the best in the region. Wurst Fest kicks off the fall in September with a variety of family activities including weenie dog races, kid’s activities, live music and lots of bratwurst in Historic Downtown Mansfield. Today the theater entertains residents and visitors with live theater, concerts and musical revues. The theater is also available for rental for private parties and concerts. The Torpedo is one of five large water slides that take visitors on thrilling rides. The park also includes water features and small wade pools for young children. Cabanas are Local Attractions available for rental. The park is open through the summer beginning Memorial Day weekend. Main St. 817-473-4250 Mansfield, Texas 76063 www.mansfieldhistory.org Located in the McKnight Building in Historic Downtown Mansfield, the museum and heritage center chronicles the history of the city as well as the North Texas region, beginning with its earliest days as home to Indian settlements along Walnut Creek to the gristmill that turned the prairie outpost into a thriving community. Local Attractions The Walnut Creek Linear Park offers 1.9 miles of trails winding along the scenic creek banks, connecting McKnight Park on the east to Town Park on the west. Along the way visitors reach Rose Park with playgrounds, pavilions and fishing. Athletic facilities include the Mansfield Sports Complex, McKnight Park East, Philip Thompson Soccer Complex and Hardy Allmon Soccer Complex. A unique feature of the park is the 600-seat amphitheater for outdoor concerts and event. Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park 1650 Matlock Road Mansfield, Texas 76063 www.olivernaturepark.com Oliver Nature Park is named after Elmer W. Oliver, a Mansfield resident and the original landowner. The project is divided into three phases. Phase I, comprised of all outdoor elements, is completed. Phase II will include a 2.7 mile trail to Joe Pool Lake and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. Phase III will include an indoor Nature Center and Learning Lab to be completed in 2017. As Mansfield’s only nature park, Oliver Nature Park offers unique classes and activities in which students and adults may participate. Additionally, this park is home to a variety of ecoregions, diverse plant and animal life, wildflowers and much more. Local Attractions Katherine Rose Memorial Park 303 N. Walnut Creek Dr. Mansfield, Texas 76063 Originally a pecan orchard, Rose Park is the site of many large festivals and special events. One of the most popular features at the 24-acre park is a 1/2-mile, lighted, concrete walking/ biking trail that serves as a major trail head connection to the Walnut Creek Linear Park. The rolling, 225-acre site plays 6,850 yards, and from the forward tees it plays 5,263 yards. A 4,000-square foot clubhouse has a snackbar with seating for up to 80 people as well as a fully stocked golf shop featuring all of the latest products for all of your golfing needs. Broad St. Mansfield, Texas 76063 www.mansfieldisd.org The Mansfield Independent School District’s athletic complex features the 11,000seat Vernon Newsom Stadium and the highly ranked MISD Natatorium. The stadium features a 10-story press box, state-of-the-art Jumbotron score and video board, administrative facilities and community room and locker rooms. The natatorium features an eight-foot deep pool that can be configured from eight to 24 lanes, two diving platforms, pro shop and concession stand and visitor seating. Joe Pool Lake www.lakejoepool.org The 7,700 acre lake borders a portion of southeast Mansfield. It features four parks (including two state parks) and two marinas. Just minutes from Mansfield is Loyd Park, managed by the city of Grand Prairie. Amenities at the lake include campsites, rental cabins, boat ramps, boat dock, beaches, hiking trails, equestrian trails, picnic facilities, softball field and volleyball courts.
