Every year Mr. Palmer holds a yearbook design contest for the Vienna High School yearbook. The designs can be hand drawn or done by computer. Alex’s design was chosen for the front cover. Alex was excited about winning. He commented, “It was awesome to win because I get half off the yearbook price. I really don’t know how I got the idea.... but it worked.” John’s design was chosen for the back cover. John was very The front cover of the 2007 yearbook, designed by Alex Shelton. shocked when he found out he won. He stated, “I was surprised because I didn’t think they would actually pick mine. I thought that the design applies to both the Seniors and Freshman, as well as anybody in between.” Since there were two winners this year, both will receive a yearbook at half price. Mr. Palmer was pleased with the number of entries. He stated, “It was nice to have so many entries. I would like to especially thank Ms. Clayton’s first and second period classes for their entries. In the future, I hope that more Seniors will enter because this is their yearbook.” John Gearing designed the back cover of the yearbook. I know it’s been around for about six years. But, something still reaches out to me after all of those years. If you like catchy melodies then listen to Everclear’s breakthrough hit on this album entitled “Wonderful”, a song about just closing your eyes and making everything that is going wrong in your life disappear for a moment. There is always the upbeat song “AM Radio” for all of you pop people. If you are a true music enthusiast and don’t mind listening to songs that never were mainstream and overplayed on the radios, then I would suggest trying “Unemployed Boyfriend”. The remake of Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” isn’t too shabby either. Scissor Sisters...where to begin with their highly-anticipated album? Two words: sophomore slump. Most people disagree with me on that opinion, but I have valid reasons for making such a statement. First, this has nothing close to the lyrical and musical talent put in to it. I’m not saying that they aren’t talented and the songs are easy to play. I’m only pointing out that they did not take as much time to plan and write this album like they did their self-titled debut. The album can pretty much be summed up by listening to the first track, “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin”. This is a pop album with some traces of disco and funk sprinkled strategically throughout. All in all, worth listening to just to get it out of your system.
