Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex (BMAC)
The Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex is a 80-acre site built in a phased
approach. The concession and restroom building for the new softball fields is
completed. The building has both indoor and outdoor seating, which allows
spectators to watch from either a large climate controlled seating area or from
outdoor picnic tables. The building houses a grill, restrooms and mechanical areas.
Installation of the field lights for both softball and soccer, and the expansion of the
north lot to include an additional 300 parking spaces, which will bring 800 parking
spaces for the complex is complete. Additional walkways, and a few additional
structures will be added to the facility to complement a main entrance building
adjacent to an expanded north parking lot. The facility is scheduled to house a
first aid station, small maintenance area, administrative office, shower facilities,
restrooms, and ticket booths. A large pavilion, playground and comfort station will be added and overlooks the new soccer
field.
General Complex Information:
The Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex is located in the northwest corner of the City of Bridgeton and covers approximately
80 acres and currently has the following amenities:
• 5 Adult Softball Fields (Lighted with Scoreboards)
• 5 Baseball / Softball Fields (Lighted)
• 1 Baseball Field (Lighted)
• 1.5 mile Multi-Purpose Trail
• 1 Game Soccer Field (Lighted)
• 4 Lighted Tennis Courts
• 4 Lighted Racquetball / Handball Courts

Ronna & Beverly
Come laugh it up Kosher-Style with Ronna Glickman (Jessica Chaffin) and Beverly Ginsberg (Jamie Denbo),
co-authors of the best selling relationship book, “You’ll Do a Little Better Next Time: A Guide to Marriage
and Re-marriage for Jewish Singles (You won’t listen to
your mother, but you might listen to her best friends!)”
From Scarsdale to Scottsdale, Ronna and Beverly have visited
various synagogues, Hillel houses and the occasional family
room promoting their book and speaking about the issues they
know best; love, Jews, Neiman Marcus and their children.*

“Jessica Chaffin and Jamie Denbo channel their inner Jewish mothers-one hopped up

The show bears comparisons to Ab Fab and Mike Meyers’s Coffee Talk, but the onstage
rapport of these two elevates their schtick. Together they dole out advice to and pass
judgment on their celebrity guests. As Ronna would say: End of discussion.”

St. Louis Attractions
Gateway Arch
16
The Gateway Arch is located on the grounds of the Jefferson National
Expansion Memorial, commemorating St. Louis as the Gateway to
the West. The Arch was completed in 1965 and stands 630 feet high
overlooking the Mississippi River and downtown St. Louis.
Dominating the riverfront skyline, the Arch allows visitors to ride to the
top in special capsules which run up the hollow legs. Under the Arch is
the Museum of Westward Expansion, which tells the story of the many
groups who roamed and settled the American West. Allow plenty of time
for catching a ride to the top, but it is definitely worth the wait!

Forest Park
Forest Park belongs to all St. Louisans and is located in the heart of the city and
serves as the heart of our city. Forest Park officially opened to the public on June
24, 1876 and is one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. At 1,293 acres, it is
approximately 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York. It served as the site of
the 1904 World’s Fair, drawing more than 20 million visitors from around the world.
Currently the park attracts more than 12 million visitors a year. The park also hosts
some of the region’s favorite cultural and educational institutions: the St. Louis Art
Museum, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center and the Missouri History Museum.
All are free to the public. It is frequented by runners, rollerbladers and picnickers
and serves as a sports center for golf, tennis, baseball, bicycling, boating, fishing,
handball, ice skating, rugby and more. It is an active participant and catalyst in
the St. Louis community. Monuments, historic buildings, wildlife, waterways and landscapes combine to form a unique cultural
institution that is vitally important to the entire St. Louis region. The park is recognized as an important gathering place where
people of all ages, races and economic backgrounds can gather and mix in a positive way.
St. Louis Zoo

Children’s Zoo for a more hands on approach where youngsters can touch animals, meet a
koala and hand feed some of the residents. You can also have lunch by the lake take a ride on
the Zooline Railroad and spend a beautiful day in Forest Park. The Zoo is open daily at no fee,

The Hill
To many St. Louisans, the Hill is an Italian neighborhood known for its nationally acclaimed
restaurants, specialty groceries and bakeries, tiny “shotgun” houses and fire hydrants proudly
painted red, white and green, the colors of the Italian flag. This 50 square block area in South
St. Louis is not merely one of the city’s great ethnic neighborhoods, but among its most stable,
tightly woven communities.
Throughout its history, the Hill’s staunchly Italian identity has been the glue that has held this
neighborhood together. This is still a neighborhood where childhood friends meet for lunch,
where most people know all their neighbors. While the Hill retains its historical ethnic character
it welcomes newcomers and visitors as a vital part of its continuity. As Hill residents know,
you don’t have to be Italian to appreciate the enduring community that their parents and
grandparents created.
Central West End
The Central West End is an eclectic, cosmopolitan showplace of St. Louis. Located in the central corridor
of the City, just north of Forest Park, the area is a popular gathering place. A fine selection of restaurants
and sidewalk cafes are nestled in with notable art galleries, antique shops, specialty shops, boutiques and
bookstores.
Unusual, elaborate turn-of-the-century lamp posts and cobblestone streets add to the atmosphere of this
neighborhood which first grew in popularity with the coming of the 1904 World’s Fair. Restaurants take a good
bit of space in the Central West End, and you’ll find a little bit of everything: Italian, pan-Asian, Caribbean,
French and more.

Tournament Rules
General Rules
20
1. No alcoholic beverages allowed at the softball fields including the adjacent parking lots and picnic areas.
2. The umpire will announce the start time of the game and only his time will be used to determine the end time of
the game.
3. To speed play, no infield or outfield warm-ups are allowed after the first inning.
4. Pitchers may have three warm up pitches per inning.
5. Only the manager may discuss a disputed call with an umpire. Balls and strikes, as well as judgment calls, may
not be disputed.
6. No metal cleats are allowed.
7. The following acts will not be tolerated and will result in ejection from the game:
• profane or abusive language;
• visible displays of temper, such as throwing a bat;
• intentional and violent collision with an opposing player.
8. Any player ejected from two games will be ejected from the tournament.
9. Fighting will not be tolerated and will result in an automatic ejection from the tournament.
10. Players are not allowed to wear jewelry on the playing field, with the exception of no more than one necklace
that fits inside a player’s jersey. This includes earrings, rings, bracelets; excessive necklaces and anything else
deemed jewelry by the umpire.
11. For rules not specifically stated in the tournament rules, the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) rules
shall apply and will be interpreted by the umpire.
Base Running Rules
1. No stealing is allowed.
2. There is no relaxed/anticipation step allowed. A base runner may only leave the base once the batter hits the ball.
A base runner that leaves the base before the pitch to the plate is hit or if the batter fails to hit the pitch will be
called out.
3. Softball fields that have a safety bag at first base require the runner to touch only the safety bag (orange bag) on
any potential play at first. The fielder must touch the inside bag (white bag).
4. All plays at home are a force. The catcher must touch the front of the mat, home plate, and the runner must touch
the back of the mat. If the catcher catches the ball and touches the front of the mat before the runner touches the
back of the mat, the runner is out.
5. If the base runner touches the home plate, the front of the mat, he will be called out.
6. Commit Line: There will be a Commit Line between third base and home plate. Once a player passes the Commit
Line he must continue home, he cannot return to third base.
7. No tagging of the base runner may occur between the Commit Line and home plate. If a defensive player tags the
runner between the Commit Line and home plate, the runner is not out and play continues as the runner advances
to the mat at home plate. If the runner touches the back of the mat before a defensive player touches home plate,
the runner is safe even though he was tagged between the Commit Line and home plate.
8. Sacrifice Fly Rule: Tagging up by a runner to advance after a fly out is permitted on all bases.
9. If a hitter hits a home run outside the field’s fences, the runners on the bases may touch any part of the mat at
home plate.
10. Pinch Runners: Each team is permitted a maximum of three (3) pinch runners per game from anywhere in the
batting order.
11. Courtesy Runners: Before the start of the game, each team may declare courtesy runners for up to three (3) batters who are injured. The declared batters may only go to first base on a batted ball, with the exception of a home
run outside the park’s fences. The courtesy runner must be the last out in the batting order and will not count as a
pinch runner.
12. When a ball is thrown out of the playing area, each base runner is awarded one base if the throw came from the
infield, and two bases if the throw came from the outfield.
Pitching Rules
1. Pitching Arc: The minimum pitching arc is six (6) feet. There is no maximum arc.
2. Balls and Strikes: All parts of the mat are considered a strike.
3. Strikeouts: A batter is considered to have struck out if the count against him reaches three (3) strikes, including
foul balls. If a batter hits a foul ball on his third strike, he is out and the ball is considered dead, the runners may
not advance.
4. Pitching area: a pitcher may deliver a pitch with a minimum of one foot within the area of the width of the pitching
rubber and from a distance of 15 feet behind the rubber.
5. Illegal Pitch: If the umpire calls an illegal pitch, the ball may be hit at the batter’s risk; otherwise, a ball is called on
the batter.
Internationanal Jewish Men’s Slo-pitch Softball Tournament
Batting/Lineup Rules
1. Batting Lineup: A team must have a minimum of nine (9) players to start a game.
2. A team must have a minimum of eight (8) players to continue a game. If, due to an injury a team falls to eight (8) players, the opposing
team will supply a non-active catcher. To clarify, even if the non-active catcher makes a play it will not be called an out.
3. A player who arrives after the first pitch may play, but his name must be inserted at the bottom of the batting order.
4. There is no maximum number of batters in a team’s lineup and players are not required to play in the field.
5. A team is not required to play all of the players on its roster in each game. It is a team’s option to have substitutes available to be
entered into the game.
6. For each scheduled batter who is not available to bat when due up and for whom no substitute player is available to bat in the scheduled batter’s place, the team at bat will receive an automatic out only the next time that batters spot comes up (the automatic out may
happen only once).
7. Replacement Rule: A starting player can be replaced by another player on the team’s roster who was not in the starting lineup. The replacement player must bat in the same spot in the lineup as the starting player he replaced. The starting player can re-enter the game
once, for the player who replaced him in the lineup.
8. No bunting or chopping of the ball is allowed.
9. The batters box will be defined as the length of the mat. The batter must have at least one (1) foot in the batters box at all times.
Fielding Rules
1. A team may substitute any fielding player in the line-up with another player in the lineup at any time with no restrictions.
2. A player who arrives after the first pitch may enter the game immediately, if his team is in the field with less than ten (10) players.
3. The defensive team may use a maximum of ten (10) players in the field at any one time.
Qualifying Round Format
1. Each team will play six (6) games in the Qualifying Round, weather permitting.
2. A regulation game in the Qualifying Round consists of no more than seven (7) full innings, even if tied. No inning may be started after
75 minutes; however, once an inning is started, it must be completed.
3. A game is official after five (5) innings, or after four and one half (4½) innings if the home team is ahead.
4. Mercy Rule: There is a ten (10) run mercy rule per inning, except for the last inning (which does not necessarily mean the
seventh inning).
5. Home team will be decided by a coin toss.
Standings and Championship Playoff Bracket Pairings
1. Qualifying Round standings for purposes of determining the Championship Playoff Pairings are calculated with a win equaling two (2)
points, a tie equaling one (1) point and a loss equaling zero (0) points.
2. Eight (8) teams will advance to the Championship Playoffs. The top two (2) seeds are the teams with the most points in each division.
Of the top two (2) seeds from the two (2) divisions, the number one (1) seed will be the team with the greatest number of points from
the Qualifying Round. The other division top seed will be the number two (2) seed.
3. The six (6) teams with the next best records from the Qualifying Round shall also qualify for the Championship Playoffs and will be
seeded three (3) to eight (8) based on their records.
4. In case of a tie, the following formula to break a tie will be used:
• the first tiebreaker is the team with the most wins;
• if still tied, the second tiebreaker is head to head competition;
• if the two (2) teams did not play each other or their game ended in a tie, the third tiebreaker is the team with the greatest run differential in the Qualifying Round (runs scored minus runs given up);
• if still tied a coin toss will break the tie.
5. If a team defaults a Qualifying Round game, the opponent will be awarded two (2) points and a default score of ten to zero (10-0).
Championship Playoff Format
1. In the Quarter Final round of the Championship Playoffs the teams will be seeded one (1) through eight (8). The first seed will play the
eighth seed, the second seed will play the seventh seed and so forth.
2. In the Semi Final round the highest seeded remaining team will play the lowest seeded remaining team. The other two (2) remaining
teams will play each other.
3. There is no time limit. All seven (7) innings will be played.
4. There is no mercy rule in the Championship Playoffs.
5. The Home team is the highest seeded team.

Dear Participants of the 2008 International Jewish Men’s Slo-Pitch Tournament,
Welcome to the City of Maryland Heights! With this year being the first time your tournament has visited
the St. Louis area, we’re thrilled that you have chosen our city as your host location. As a city “where life is
celebrated,” I think you’ll find that Maryland Heights is an ideal place to celebrate the 30th anniversary of
your event.
While I realize that the main thing on your minds this weekend will be hitting home runs and making
double plays, when you’re not on the field, I hope you’ll take advantage of the many hospitality amenities
our city has to offer. During your stay at the Westport Sheraton, be sure to take a stroll around Westport
Plaza. You can enjoy a meal in one of more than a dozen excellent eateries, take in a show at the Funny
Bone Comedy Club, catch some great live music at the Trainwreck or see what’s onstage at the Playhouse.
There’s also plenty to do throughout the rest of the city. Harrah’s Casino offers visitors a chance to test
their luck—and maybe score the big win they didn’t get in the tournament. Harrah’s is also home to
outstanding restaurants like Charlie Gitto’s, which offers a taste of “The Hill,” St. Louis’ famous Italian
neighborhood. Those who want a taste of the great outdoors will want to be sure to visit Creve Coeur Park,
which features a 320-acre lake, six miles of walking/biking paths, picnic sites and more. For more
information on these and dozens of other leisure options, be sure to visit the Maryland Heights Convention
and Visitors Bureau’s web site at www.more2do.org.
Again, I want to extend a hearty Midwest welcome to the teams from all over North America that will soon
gather here to enjoy the spirited competition and warm fellowship of the International Jewish Men’s SloPitch Tournament. I wish you all the best for a successful event and a memorable visit to Maryland
Heights.
Sincerely,
Mike Moeller
Mayor, City of Maryland Heights

Tournament Mission Statement
The mission of the International Jewish Men’s Slo-Pitch Tournament is to provide an opportunity for Jewish men
