This is an important month for our country and our Senior Center. November 8th we elect our new President of the United States. Over the following three days, November 9 -11, you have the opportunity to elect 5 new members to the GPBSC Board of Directors. Remember that on December 5, the 15 members of the Board will elect your new Executive Committee: President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary, and Treasurer. Nov. 10 6:30 pm 2016 Florence Foster Jenkins (PG-13) biography, comedy, drama. The inspiring story of a singer with a terrible singing voice. Florence Foster Jenkins, an heiress from NYC, sets out to sing her way to Carnegie Hall, knowing that the only way to get there is “practice, practice, practice.” Her husband supports her venture and the true story of Florence playing Carnegie Hall becomes a historic event. Based on the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the WWII mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the Reich’s third in command after Hitler and Himmler. Heydrich was the main architect behind the “Final Solution” and the leader of occupying Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia whose reign of terror prompted self-exiled Czech and Slovak soldiers to hatch a top-secret mission that would change the face of Europe forever. You’ll find these beside the Suggestion Box In the lobby (between the doors leading to the Main Hall). This newly revised form was created for both Members and Visitors to list concerns, compliments, suggestions, safety issues, complaints, and other subjects they believe should be considered on behalf of the Center. The Suggestion Box will be checked weekly by the Ombudsman Committee. Those submitting a form must provide their name and a contact phone number in order for the submission to be considered. Our focus this fall and into the winter will be feeding families during and after the holidays. We will also be collecting toys and such to help these families have a wonderful holiday. So keep Outreach in mind when you shop for food; a couple of extra cans will round out a family’s dinner table, during holidays or any time during the year. It’s a great feeling to know that you made a difference in your neighbors’ lives this season, and any season. A Volunteer Book listing a variety of opportunities is located on the shelf at the Reception Desk. Place your name on the particular page of interest and the leader will contact you. Volunteer hrs. may be utilized toward travel & discounts on room rentals. Building sitters receive a $10 gift card each time they perform this function. Bingo Callers needed to work the new electronic Bingo machine on Wed. afternoons & Friday evenings. Training is available. Some computer knowledge is recommended. Floor workers needed for Fridays. Tasks include calm friendly interaction with patrons, making clear announcements, and paying out cash winnings. Set Up & Tear Down Crew Assistance with tables and chairs is needed before and after various activities and rentals, including after bingo games, early mornings, general meetings, dances, etc. All assistance is very much appreciated. Supervisor/Blue Shirt Back-up Shift Supervisor 8-12 or 12-4. Must possess good people skills and be capable of performing light housekeeping tasks. Kitchen Grill cook for Wednesday 9-2. Duties include cooking hamburgers & hot dogs and cleaning the grill. IT Manager Needed Need volunteer with software and hardware background to facilitate the Center’s computer systems.
