You put a lion in, you take a lion out,

You do the Zooey Pokey and you turn yourself around,
That’s what it’s all about.
You put an elephant in, you take an elephant out,
You put an elephant in, and he swings his trunk about.

You put a kangaroo in, you take a kangaroo out,

We’re going to the zoo today to see the animals.

[put arm like a trunk and move it up and down]
We’ll see the elephants with the long trunks going up and down.
We’ll see the seals, the seals, the seals. [sway head side to side]
We’ll see the seals with the heads swaying side to side.
We’ll see the kangaroos, the kangaroos, the kangaroos. [jump around]
We’ll see the kangaroos jumping all around.
We’re very tired and sleepy, tired and sleepy, tired and sleepy. [put head on hands]
We’re very tired and sleepy after our trip to the zoo.

The keeper at the zoo,
[one child begins as the keeper in the center of a circle]
The keeper at the zoo,
We are off to see him,
The keeper at the zoo.
The lion at the zoo,
[the keeper chooses a lion, and both stand in the circle]

The monkey at the zoo,
[the lion chooses a monkey, and both stand in the circle]

We are off to see him,
The monkey at the zoo.
The brown bear at the zoo,
[the monkey chooses a brown bear, and both stand in the circle]

We are off to see him,

The hippo at the zoo,
[the bear chooses a hippo, and both stand in the circle]

The keeper feeds them all,
[all of the “animals” move out of the circle]
