The 2015-2016 Season
MAN OF LA MANCHA: September 17 - October 11, 2015
The Tony Award winning musical tells the story of “The Mad Knight”, Don Quixote, as a play within a
play, performed by Miguel de Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish
Inquisition. Featuring the classic song “The Impossible Dream”, Man of La Mancha is one of the most
enduring works of musical theatre, having been revived four times on Broadway since its debut in 1965. Music
by Mitch Leigh and Lyrics by Joe Darion and Book by Dale Wasserman.
GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER: October 29 - November 15, 2015
A new adaptation of the beloved film. A progressive white couple’s proud liberal sensibilities are put to
the test when their daughter, fresh from a Hawaiian romance, brings her African-American fiancé home to
meet them. Personal beliefs clash with the mores of the late 60’s in this witty, jarring, and riotously funny
exploration of family and culture and knowing which of them has the greater hold on our hearts. Adaptation
by Todd Kreidler.
THE WIZ: January 21 - February 14, 2016
“Radiates so much energy you can hardly sit in your seat…great fun.” The New York Post
Move on down the road with this winner of 7 Tony Awards including “Best Musical”. This beloved Broadway
musical sets Dorothy’s adventures in the land of OZ to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel,
and soul! The Wiz is CFRT’s Classic Theatre Series production for the 2015-2016 season and is presented in
partnership with Cumberland County Schools, providing an opportunity to engage, entertain, and educate
students. Free tickets will be provided to all 11th grade CCS students.
DOWNRANGE: VOICES FROM THE HOMEFRONT: March 3 - 20, 2016
WORLD PREMIERE
Downrange: Voices from the Homefront is a new play about the impact of deployment on military families
based on interviews with military spouses from our community. Funny, heartwarming, gut-wrenching and
ultimately profound, Downrange tells the stories of the ones who wait. Downrange is written by North
Carolina playwright Mike Wiley, who also wrote The Parchman Hour.
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE: April 7 – 24, 2016
The classic comedy that kills with kindness. Spinster sisters Abby and Martha Brewster are devoted to charity
and family. But they have taken on another project as well: befriending lonely older gentlemen and poisoning
them with arsenic-laced elderberry wine. The New York Times calls it “so funny that none of us will ever forget
it.” Written by Joseph Kesselring.
RING OF FIRE: May 12 – June 5, 2016
Ring of Fire tells the story of Johnny Cash through his music. More than two dozen classic hits—including “I
Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and the title tune—performed by a multi-talented
cast, paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black that promises to be a foot-stompin’, crowd-pleasin’ salute to
a uniquely American legend! More musical portrait than biography, Ring of Fire is at turns stirring, moving and
exhilarating. Created by Richard Maltby. Conceived by Bill Meade.
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH: May 19 – June 5, 2016
Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the story of a German transsexual who goes on a journey of self-discovery, has
one of the great rock scores of any contemporary musical. From the driving rock of Tear Me Down to the
heart rending Origin of Love to the Country-Pop brilliance of Sugar Daddy, this musical has struck a chord.
Hedwig allows us to feel free to truly love ourselves and become the best version of ourselves and, ultimately,
spread the love to others. Book by John Cameron Mitchell. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Trask.
