The
Dresser
“The Dresser” is a wonder of a play. It is a comedy within a drama, a miracle of wit, history and satire that
is populated with unforgettable characters. Two vie for your attention, leaving you to determine who is
the hero and who is the villain. The play is guaranteed to keep you guessing, keep you in suspense and on
edge, wondering “what next?” Tension, pathos, laughter and hubris, a combination of factors that will burn
these characters into your memory and leave you contemplating their fates long after the play has ended.

Adapted by Joe Masteroff with lyrics by Ebb, and music by John Kander, this is a musical comedy
about a group of venerable ladies and a few gentlemen living at The Sussex Arms, a run-down and
dispirited senior citizens’ hotel in New York City, slated to be sold to developers. While there is no lack
of humor or courage or willingness to save their home, there is a lack of money. With determination and a
few tricks up their sleeves, they pull off a sensational first “caper”; the excitement of the heist has the gang
fumble through just enough robberies needed to save their home.

january 9, 2015 • talley’s folly - by lanford wilson
Once upon a time in a delightfully dilapidated boathouse, Talley’s Folly, tells of the unlikely romance of
Matt Friedman, a Jewish bachelor and Sally Talley, a Protestant woman eleven years his junior. When they
met a year earlier, Matt was forever changed and has wooed Sally with a daily letter although her single
reply gave no romantic encouragement. Risking everything, he has bravely come uninvited to her home
in Missouri on July 4, 1944 to ask her to marry him.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want
of a wife.” The classic story tells of the five Bennet sisters, their somewhat disengaged father and a mother
fixated on finding them suitable husbands. Spirited, Elizabeth rejects two proposals and Jane seems poised
to win the heart of a young man until he abruptly departs. With the influx of young officers, Kitty and
Lydia are all abuzz leaving Mary to ponder the “idle chatter of younger sisters”. Humor, heartbreak and
crisis eventually reveal the true desires of the heart.

may 8, 2015 • phantom - music & lyrics by maury yeston, book by arthur kopit
From the Tony Award-winning team of Yeston and Kopit comes the exquisite masterpiece, Phantom. Based
on Gaston Leroux’s novel, Phantom is the timeless, star-crossed love story of the phantom; disfigured
musical genius Erik, and his muse, Christine, the ingénue of the Paris Opera. Their musical affair unfolds
deep in the catacombs of the Paris Opera House where Erik finds salvation in Christine’s breathtaking
voice. Phantom materializes into the story of a man who has both beauty and ugliness in his soul. The
New York Times says “This mesmerizing Phantom is traditional musical theatre in the finest sense.”
