Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival 08/06-08/11 All venues of the CCP The First Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival brings together choral groups from the Philippines and all over the world to compete in folk music, vocal ensemble and chamber choir. The competition will be anchored by the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers, one of the few choirs that were awarded the European Grand Prix twice. The competiton celebrates the 50th anniverary of the Philippine Madrigal Singers and named in honor of its founder, National Artist for Music, Professor Andrea O. Veneracion. Tanghalang Pilipino: Merchant of Venice 10/27 - 11/13 Tanghalang Huseng Batute (Studio Theater) A detested moneylender seeks revenge against a merchant who has defaulted on a loan. Tanghalang Pilipino’s version sets Shakespeare’s tale in a play within a play during the Holocaust where Nazis direct the Jewish ‘actors’ in a version that tackles the dehumanizing effect of racism and intolerance. Musical theater performers, composers, librettists, designers upgrade their craft in performance and production through an intensive training program designed by top professionals from New York and Manila. His secret life as an artist and how this influenced the anticolonialist struggle for freedom and independence. A new musical opera by National Artist Virgilio Almario. The traditional Christmas Mass commences with the Grand Choral singing of Handel’s “Messiah” with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. Led by the Philippine Madrigal Singers and its network of choirs called the Madz et al, the event also invites participation from individual singers and groups to complete the thousand voices. SARAZA JR. violin RAYMOND DE LEON trumpet AIMEE MINA – DE LA CRUZ percussion Twenty-two year old young award-winning virtuoso violinist and Juilliard scholar Diomedez Saraza Jr. comes home to open the Special Concert Series on July 31, 2013. At 19, he made his New York concert debut with the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble at Julia Richman Auditorium. He also became a prizewinner of the Juilliard Competition 2010 playing William Schumann’s Violin Concerto. After his critically acclaimed performance as soloist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra February 2011 season concert, audiences will surely look forward to this wonderful treat. A three-time first prize winner of the National Music Competitions for Young Artsts (NAMCYA), Raymond was a semi-finalist in the 1st Calvia International Trumpet Competition in Mallorca, Spain in 2003, won 3rd Prize in the International Trumpet Guild Competition in new Jersey in 2006 and First Prize in the Don Bushell Concerto Competition in 2011, which led to his debut with the Seattle Philharmonic on March 2012 playing the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto. He performs with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2012. Catch this remarkable trumpet virtuoso in a solo concert! The only female percussionist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Aimee has had a string of performances as marimba soloist with several ensembles which include the Metro Manila Orchestra, UP Symphonic Band and the Philbanda Wind Orchestra during its recent trip to Singapore in July 2012. Her stint with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performing Ravel’s Tziganne under the baton of PPO conductor laureate Oscar C.Yatco drew raves. MASTERCLASSES WORKSHOPS & Masterclasses. One on one coaching sessions with art experts training advanced students in performance and technique. The three outstanding young Filipino artists featured on the 2013 Special Concert Series will be giving masterclasses on violin, trumpet and percussion. Orchestra Conducting Workshop. The workshop is designed public. Aside from the weekly lessons, the students are also expected to have campus performances to promote interest in classical guitar. Under the tutelage of classical guitar arranger and professor Maestro Jose Valdez, the students of the program are expected to develop a self-sustaining performing classical guitar ensemble with excellent performance. to expand the skills in orchestra conducting. Module will consist of lectures on score reading, score interpretation and baton techniques. Podium time will be given to participants to individually practice conducting in front of an orchestra. Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila 2013. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Cultural Center of the Philippines invites choirs from all over the world to compete in the country’s biggest choral festival of the year. The festival honors the founder of the Philippine Madrigal Singers National Artist for Music, Professor Andrea O. Veneracion, an esteemed choirmaster and choral clinician who is instrumental in the promotion of choral music all over the country. The event intends is to bring together choral groups from different parts of the globe to the Philippines to celebrate choral excellence through a festival and a competition. Symphonic Band Conducting Workshop. An intensive training program for symphonic band conductors and enthusiasts. The workshop module consists of symphonic band conducting essentials, leadership skills enhancement, rehearsal techniques, score preparation, and actual band conducting in front of a laboratory band. Classical Champs. French Voice Masterclass in preparation for Opera “La Vie Parisienne” by Offenbach. A week-long voice masterclass on vocal techniques and opera arias with French director and vocal coach Florence Guignolet. The masterclass will culminate in the presentation of French composer Jacques Offenbach’s opera La Vie Parisienne, with the masterclass participants as performers. Virgin Labfest Writing Fellowship Program. A two-week Kabataang Gitarista Program. A classical guitar program for the youth offering free weekly lessons to interested public High School students. The program intends to promote appreciation for classical guitar performance among mentorship program on the study and practice of dramatic writing for the stage. The module consists of lectures, script critiquing, writing sessions and interactions with known playwrights, directors and selected actors. Fellows also have access pass to all the Virgin Labfest plays and rehearsals as part of their mentorship. The Fellowship Program culminates in a staged reading of the fellows’ works. Debut of selected outstanding top-prized winners of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO). Conference can be organized as a stand-alone event to focus on Intellectual Property Rights, Social Media/Technology Marketing and Promotion. Conference can be detailed to major CCP festivals and CCP festival involvement, e.g. Pasinaya CCP Open House Festival, Aliwan Festival, Cinemalaya Festival, National Theater Festival. Bayanihan Summer Workshop. Open to children, teens and adults dance enthusiasts who want to learn the Bayanihan way of dancing and to be acquainted with the dances and music that earned for the national folk dance company international acclaim. Participants will undergo a two-week intensive workshop under a mentor who will teach them to do specific body movements at the right time and a culminating activity of the workshop will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. CCP Dance School. The CCP Dance School is the professional training ground of Ballet Philippines. It offers regular courses in dance (Classical and Modern Ballet for all levels) including specialized lecture series and workshops from June to March. From April to May, the CCP Dance School conducts the Summer Intensives. Ballet Philippines Summer Intensives. From April to May, the CCP Dance School conducts the Summer Dance Workshop, a five-week intensive technique and total dance training culminating in a dance showcase at the CCP Main Theater. Ballet and more for beginners to professionals. With classes in: Baby Ballet, Classical Ballet, Contemporary/Modern Dance, and Hiphop. The CCP Summer Dance Workshop culminates with two Grand Recitals at the CCP Main Theater. Tanghalang Pilipino Summer Theater Workshop. Tanghalang Pilipino’s Summer Theater Adventure, a three-week program from April to May, offers various theatrical activities for different age levels designed to develop, hone and explore the dramatic skills and talents of aspiring theater artists. National Folk Dance Workshop. An annual five-day intensive workshop specially designed for teachers in the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels, dance trainors, directors of dance groups, choreographers and dance enthusiasts. It primarily aims to address the various needs and concerns of folk dance education and dance production in both the public and private schools. 700 to 800 representatives from the different regions of the country participate in this annual workshop. The program is conducted with the Philippine Folk Dance Society, and is endorsed by Dep-Ed, CHED, TESDA, CSC and DILG. CCP Radio and Television DiskARTE. A radio-magazine program with the arts as it matters to the society. This program reaches over two million listeners nationwide. It is a follow-up to the award-winning radio program: “Sugpuin ang Korupsyon”, elevated to the Hall of Fame by the Catholic Mass Media Awards Wan Dey, Isang Araw. CCP’s radio children’s program aired over DZAS every Saturday from 10am to 10:30am that seeks to promote storytelling for children using original works by Filipino authors. Done in cooperation with Alitaptap Storytellers Philippines and Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) Culture Carousel. Cultural Carousel is a weekly radio program of the CCP aired over 98.7 DZFE-FM from 12 noon to 1pm on Saturdays showcasing the works and performances of outstanding Filipino and foreign artists. UST Summer MusicCamp Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group Sayaw Foundation Attractions Arts For Transformation Filipiniana Sunsets A weekly cultural show at the CCP scheduled on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm. A program of the Cultural Center of the Philippines for cultural awareness and audience development, showcasing the rich and diverse Philippine traditions in dance and music. All shows are free and open to the public. Kalinga ng Sining (Arts in Rehabilitation). An art for healing and transformation program for the benefit of victims of calamities. Kalinga ng Sining is presented by the CCP Cultural Exchange Department in partnership with a partner-beneficiary agency. The program showcases various performances and activities such as ritual ceremonies, art workshops, children’s showcase as well as feeding. Folkloric groups regale local and international visitors with songs and dances from the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines from the indigenous, to the Spanish and American colonial periods. The colorful pageantry is set against the backdrop of the famous sunset of Manila Bay. CCP Building and Theater Tours. Go on a guided tour of the CCP Main Building to see the galleries and museum, as well as the various theater venues, lobby spaces, auditorium and backstage areas. CCP Christmas Décor. Now at the façade of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Parul Sampernandu showcases Christmas lanterns from the province known as the Christmas capital of the Philippines and renowned for its large size, brilliant colors, and flashing kaleidoscopic patterns made possible by the intricate electrical circuitry fashioned by the craftsmen of San Fernando, Pampanga. Sining Galing (Arts Therapy) CCP’s arts based psychosocial program intended as a response for children and/or service providers like teachers, and social workers who are survivors of calamities and other major social problems such as armed conflict. Using UNICEF’s Guidelines on Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings the activities intend to facilitate the community’s return to normalcy. Front-Of-House Apprenticeship Program The program provides various trainings in different aspects of theater operations, with specialization in the frontline. An apprentice from a partner-beneficiary agency like Gawad Kalinga, Caritas Manila, and Our Lady of Sorrow – Pasay, can eventually be employed as a member of the CCP ushering staff and be able to learn through a Building and Theater Tour and Production Design Center Tour, attend lectures on Front-Of-House Operating Procedures,Technical KnowHow, and Personality Development.
