KOS- ONE-DAY ESCAPE TO THE GREEK ISLAND
Sabah 8:15’te Bodrum’da yeni
yapılan limandaydık (Cruise Port). Önce Yeşil Marmaris
Turizm’den biletlerimizi aldık.

sonra gümrük ve pasaport kontrollerinden geçtik. “Günübirlik
vizesiz gidiliyor” söylentileri
dolaşsa da etrafta, sadece yeşil
pasaport sahibiysen ayrıcalığın
var, her zaman olduğu gibi.
We were in the new built seaport (Cruise Port) in Bodrum at
8:15 in the morning. First we
bought our tickets from Yeşil
Marmaris Tourism (45 TL per,
round trip, reservation is necessary!). Then we had the customs
and passport control. Although
there are some rumors like “visa
is not necessary for one day”,
only those with green passport
have some privileges as usual.

de 15TL’lik yurtdışı çıkış harcını
ödediğini gösteren dekontu ya
da pulu tabii. Kuyrukta bir baktım sağım solum turist, meğer
Türklerden çok yabancılar gidiyormuş bu küçük Yunan adasına. 9:00’da kalkıyor katamaran,
Bodrum’dan 7-8 deniz mili mesafede Kos. Hızlı katamaran ile
20 dakika deniyor ya, sen inanma. Gidişimiz 40, dönüşümüz 45
dakika sürdü bizim.
Otherwise, they want to see
Schengen visa on your passport
and of course the receipt or the
stamp showing that you have
paid the departure fee of 15 TL.
In the queue, there were tourists
everywhere more than Turks in
number. The catamaran departs
at 9 am; Kos is 7-8 sea miles
away from Bodrum. They say it
takes 20 minutes by the express
catamaran, do not believe this!
We went there in 40 minutes
and came back in 45 minutes.
Kos Oniki Adalar’ın en büyüğü,
22.000 civarında nüfusu. Tarihin
bilinen ilk tıp adamı Hipokrat’ın
da doğum yeri. Büyükada’yı getir
gözünün önüne, faytonları kaldır
yerine motor ve bisikletleri koy,
işte sana Kos. Büyükada’nın o
güzel ve eski evleri yok ama
insan Kos’ta yürürken kendini
sanki Büyükada’ya gelmiş gibi
hissediyor.
Kos is the biggest of the Dodecanese Islands with a population of
almost 22.000. It is also the birth
place of Hippocrates, the first
known physician of history. Just
imagine Büyükada, put bicycles
in place of coaches, here you have
Kos. There are not any beautiful
and old buildings of Büyükada
around but while you are walking around in Kos, you feel yourself as if you are wondering in
Büyükada.

sürüyor. Bizi kediler karşılıyor.
Marina’da yaptığımız kahvaltı
sonrasında şehri mini trenle
geziyoruz. İçerisinde Tourist
İnformation kısmı da bulunan
Belediye Binası önünden her yarım saatte bir kalkıyor bu trenler.
Adam başı 5 Euro. Turun tamamı 20 dakika sürüyor, hem Yunanca hem İngilizce konuşuyor
banttan bir rehber.
Kos’ta neleri görmeliyim diye
sorarsan: 3) St. John şövalyeleri
tarafından yapılan Neratzia Kalesi, 5) Hipokrat’ın geleneksel
yöntemlerle öğrencilerine tıp
dersi verdiği yaklaşık 3000 yıllık olduğu söylenen büyük çınar
ağacı, 2) Helenistik dönemden
ortaçağa kadar olan döneme
ait harabeleri olan arkeolojik
alan Antik –Agora Mahallesi, 6)
adanın Roma dönemindeki zenginliğini gösteren Casa Romana,
4) Roma Odeonu, ana caddelerin
de görülebildiği Batı Arkeoloji
Bölgesi, 1) Yunan Kilisesi’nin
temsili örneği St. Paraskevi Kilisesi ve 7)Defterdar Camii. Tüm
bunları yürüyerek 1-2 saatte görebilirsin.
Kos’ta nerede denize girsek dersen: Adanın Türkiye’ye bakan
kısmında en iyi sahil H2O, yeni
marina tarafında. Güney sahilleri
denize girmek için daha güzel.
Adanın batısında Kefalos’ta
da çok güzel sahiller var, üstelik sahiller çakıl değil, kum bu
tarafta. Sakin deniz severim dersen Camel Beach tavsiye olunur.
Volkanik ada Nisiros’a bakan
Paradise Beach, adanın en güzel plajlarından Lagada Beach,
Kefalos’un yanındaki Agios
Stefanos’ta denize girebilirsin.

There is Mouratti Tours (www.
mourattitours.com) in the island
for you not to deal with details
such as car rent, hotel reservation, and tours to other islands.
It takes 5-6 minutes on foot to
go to the center after getting
off in marina. Cats welcome us.
After the breakfast in marina, we
tour the city by mini train. These
trains departure in every thirty
minutes in front of the City Hall,
which also has a Tourist Information part. It is 5 Euros head.
The tour lasts 20 minutes, and
a recorded guide speaks both
Greek and English throughout
the tour.
What to see in Kos: 3) Neratzia
Castle built by St. John knights,
5) the approximately 3000-yearold great plane tree, where Hippocrates taught physics to his students using traditional methods, 2)
The Ancient-Agora, which is an
archeological area hosting ruins
which belong to the period from
the Helenistic period to the Middle Ages, 6) Casa Romana, which
displays the wealth of the island
during the Rome Period, 4) Rome
Odeon, the Western Archeological
Area, where it is also possible to
see the main streets, 1) St. Paraskevi Church, the representative
sample of Greek Church, 7) Defterdar Camii. You can see all those
in only 1-2 hours on foot.
Yemek&İçmek İçin: Hipokrat’ın
altında ders verdiği çınar ağacının da içinde bulunduğu
meydanda küçük dükkanlar var,
hediyelik eşya satıyorlar. Bu
meydanda Platanos adında güzel bir restoran da var. Kos’un
merkezi aslında Eski Marina.
Burası da güzel bir sahil caddesi.
Yan yana balık restoranları var,
en güzeli Niko’nun Yeri olarak
bilinen “Nick the Fisherman”.
Kredi kartı geçmiyor, haberin olsun. Balık için başka adres dersen: Kalymnos meyhane ya da
Caravelle’i denemelisin. Yemek
sonrası bir şeyler içeyim diyorsan, Hammam Bar doğru adres.
Old City tarafında ise İtalyan
mutfağı sunan Petrino güzel bir
akşam yemeği için önerilir. Hafif
bir şeyler atıştırayım diyorsan
Cafe Corner ya da Cafe Ciao’yu
denemelisin.
Where to eat&drink: There are
little shops selling souvenirs in
the square where the plane tree
under which Hippocrates trained his students stands. In this
square, there is also a restaurant
called Platanos. The center of
Kos is actually the Old Marina.
This is also a beautiful coastal
road. There are fish restaurants
side by side. “Nick the Fisherman”, known as Niko’s place, is
the best. They only accept cash,
no credit cards! Another address
of fish is Kalymnos Meyhane or
Caravelle. If you want to have
a drink after dinner, Hammam
Bar is the right address. Petrino,
with its Italian cuisine is also
recommended for a good dinner
in the part of Old City. If you
want to have a snack, you should try Café Corner or Café Ciao.
Where to swim in Kos: H2O,
the best beach facing Turkey, is
on the side of the new marina.
The Southern beaches are better to swim. There are beautiful
beaches in the west of the island,
in Kefalos, and what’s more they
are not shingle beach. There are
sandy beaches on this side. If
you want a quiet beach, then we
recommend Camel Beach. You
can also swim in Paradise Beach
facing the volcanic island Nisiros,
Lagada Beach, which is one of
the most beautiful beaches of the
island, and Agios Stefanos, near
Kefalos.

Alışveriş: Kos’un en büyük ve en
keyifli caddeleri Vas Pavlou ve
bu caddeyi kesen Apelou Ifestou. Hediyelik eşya, minik Yunan
evi minyatürleri, adaları fotoğraflarını içeren takvimler, magnet, biblo satan mağazalar sıra
sıra. Diğer yürümesi güzel cadde
ise deniz kenarındaki Akti Kountouriotou. Bu caddede ise t-shirt,
plaj çantası, havlu, şapka, güneş
kremi satan dükkanlar sıra sıra.
Ben gitmedim ama Hondo’s
Center diye 3 katlı bir alışveriş
merkezi de varmış Kos’ta, meraklısına.
Kos’u çok beğendim, diğer Yunan adalarını da gezeyim dersen, Kos’tan hergün Rodos’a,
Nissyros’a, Patmos’a, Kalymnos’a
tekne kalkıyor, sabah gidip akşam dönebilirsin. Biletler 30 –
40 Euro arasında değişiyor.
Where to go shopping: The most
pleasing streets of Kosa are Vas
Pavlou and Apelou Ifestou, the
street coinciding. There is a line
of shops selling souvenirs, little
Greek house miniatures, calendars involving the photos of
the island, magnets and knickknacks. Another beautiful street
to tour is Akti Kountouriotou.
There is also a line of shops this
time selling t-shirts, beach bags,
towels, hats, suntan creams. I
haven’t been to but there is also
a 3-storey shopping center in
Kos called Hondo’s Center.
I really liked Kos a lot. If you
want to visit the other Greek islands, a boat sets of from
Kos to Rhodes, Nisyros, Patmos,
Kalymnos every day. You can go
in the morning and come back
in the evening. The tickets are
sold for 30-40 Euros.
