1 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Effective February 1, 2014 Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide SoundGate 2 | TV Adapter 2 | Phone Adapter 2 www.sonici.com 2 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide This guide is designed to show you how to set-up and demonstrate the various Bluetooth®-compatible accessories available for use with Sonic hearing instruments and the SoundGate 2 wireless communication link. Equipment needed To best demonstrate the Bluetooth®-compatible accessories available for use, make sure you have the following items readily available. We recommend that you check this list at least one day before your demonstration. Pair of Sonic hearing instruments A SoundGate 2 Make sure you also have the following parts that were delivered in the original SoundGate 2 packaging: 1 1 Neck strap antenna 2 Wall outlet charging unit or USB charger cable 3 Charger cradle 2 3 A Bluetooth®-enabled mobile phone Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide 3 A TV Adapter 2 Make sure you also have the following parts that were delivered in the original TV Adapter 2 packaging: 4 Power adapter 5 SCART adapter 4 5 6 7 6 RCA cable 7 TOSLINK cable 8 Mini jack adapter A television or audio/video source (e.g., PC or laptop computer) A Phone Adapter 2 Make sure you also have the following parts that were delivered in the original Phone Adapter 2 packaging: 9 Power adapter 10Standard analog phone cable An analog landline phone 9 10 8 4 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Hearing Instruments Pairing the hearing instruments to the SoundGate 2 1 Verify that you have new batteries for the hearing instruments. 2 Make sure that the SoundGate 2 is fully charged and powered ON. If not, recharge the day before your demonstration. You may use the wall outlet power adapter or the charging cradle, or you may charge from a computer, laptop, or in a vehicle with the USB charging cable. 3 The hearing instruments must be paired with the SoundGate 2 device. Connect the hearing instruments to the EXPRESSfit fitting software, choose Options, select Controls, and follow the instructions after starting the pairing process. Tips for successful pairing · Make sure the device has a fully charged battery · Press the volume up key on the SoundGate 2 while holding it approximately 1 – 1½ feet (30 – 50 cm) from the hearing instruments · To confirm the link between SoundGate 2 and the connected hearing instruments, repeat this step by pressing the volume up key · Don’t forget to press “Save and Quit” to save Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Mobile Phone Preparation of the mobile phone The first time the SoundGate 2 is used with a Bluetooth®-enabled mobile phone, a one-time pairing connection must be established to introduce the two devices to each other. The pairing creates a unique wireless link between the two devices, enabling them to recognize each other and communicate whenever they are turned on and within range of each other. Different mobile phones vary in the steps required to prepare the phone for Bluetooth® pairing. Refer to the user guide that came with the mobile phone for pairing instructions. If the user guide is not readily available, Bluetooth® settings can typically be found under the mobile phone’s ‘settings’ menu. Here is an example of an iOS mobile phone: 1 Press the “Settings” icon on the home screen 2Press “Bluetooth®” 3 If Bluetooth® function is turned OFF, swipe your finger across the touch screen from left to right to turn the function ON The mobile phone is now prepared to search for other active Bluetooth® devices within range. Preparation of the SoundGate 2 – Put the SoundGate 2 into the Bluetooth® pairing mode 1 Press and hold the SoundGate 2 power key for 5–6 seconds 2 The LED indication will begin flashing blue rapidly 3 The SoundGate 2 is now in pairing mode for a maximum of 2 minutes Bluetooth® pairing of the mobile phone and the SoundGate 2 4 Once both devices are in active pairing mode, the Bluetooth® mobile phone will locate the SoundGate 2, and the name, “SoundGate 2” will appear in the mobile phone display 5 Select “SoundGate 2” 6 When prompted to enter a pin code by the mobile phone, enter “0000” (four zeroes) and press “OK”. The phone will now complete pairing and connect the two devices. 5 6 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Demonstration of the mobile phone Ensure that the hearing instruments are on. The SoundGate 2 should be worn with the neck strap antenna around the neck. Answering a call Making a call 1 Call the mobile phone number previously paired to the SoundGate 2 from any other telephone 1 Dial a phone number from the connected mobile phone 2 The SoundGate 2 phone key will flash green and a ring tone will become audible to the hearing instrument wearer. Press the SoundGate 2 phone key to accept the incoming call. 2 The phone key on the SoundGate 2 will illuminate green and the normal ringing signal will become audible to the wearer 3 The SoundGate 2 phone key will now illuminate steady green 4 Begin speaking toward the SoundGate 2 microphone to initiate the conversation 5 To end the phone call at any time, press the SoundGate 2 phone key. The phone key will no longer illuminate and the previous listening program will resume. Note! For additional information on mobile phone streaming, please refer to the SoundGate 2 User Guide. 3 When the other party answers the phone call, the conversation can begin 4 To end the phone call at any time, press the SoundGate 2 phone key. The phone key will no longer illuminate and the previous listening program will resume. Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide 7 TV Adapter 2 Preparation of the TV Adapter 2 A secure connection between the SoundGate 2 and TV Adapter 2 must be established. Follow the instructions below to prepare the devices for use. 1 Connect the TV Adapter 2 to a power outlet. Use the power adapter included in the TV Adapter 2 packaging. 2 Check that the power is turned on. After a few seconds, the power indicator on the TV Adapter 2 will illuminate green. Connecting the TV Adapter 2 to the TV 44 SN2_ILLU_TelevisionAdapterToWallPower_BW_HI Place the TV Adapter 2 in a suitable spot near the TV. The TV Adapter 2 can be connected in four different ways: Connecting using TOSLINK 1 Remove the plastic cap from the TOSLINK cable 2 Connect one end of the TOSLINK cable to the TOSLINK output on the TV/home theatre system and connect the other end of the TOSLINK cable to the TOSLINK input on the TV Adapter 2 46 SN2_ILLU_ToslinkCableFromTelevisionToAdapterInAndAdapterOutToStereoReceiver_BW_HI 8 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Connecting using RCA 1 Connect one end of the RCA cable to the RCA output on the TV/home theatre system, typically marked ‘L – R AUDIO OUT’ and found on the TV back or bottom panel 2 Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the RCA connector ports on the back of the TV Adapter 2 45 Connecting using mini jack adapter SN2_ILLU_AudioCableTelevisionAdapterToTelevision_HI 1 Connect one end of the RCA cable to the mini jack adapter and connect the mini jack to the TV, typically marked with a headphone symbol 2 Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the TV Adapter 2 RCA connector ports SEL Connecting using SCART SEL POWER 1 Connect one end of the RCA cable to the SCART adapter and connect the SCART adapter to the SCART output on your TV L R IN L POWER IN R Audio Out L R 2 Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the TV Adapter 2 connector ports Audio Out L R SEL SEL POWER L R IN OUT OUT OUT POWER L R IN OUT Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide Pairing the SoundGate 2 with the TV Adapter 2 Ensure the TV Adapter 2 is connected to a power outlet, and the SoundGate 2 battery is charged and powered ON. The status indicator on the TV Adapter 2 and the SoundGate 2 should be illuminated green. 1 Press and hold the SoundGate 2 power key for 5 – 6 seconds until the status indicator starts flashing blue rapidly 30 SN2_ILLU_TopLedFlashingBlue_HI 2 Place the SoundGate 2 on top of the TV Adapter 2 – the pairing can take up to 60 seconds. The pairing is completed when the TV Adapter 2 power indicator turns blue and then steady orange. 3 When the power indicator on the TV Adapter 2 and the TV indicator on the SoundGate 2 are both steady orange, the TV Adapter 2 is connected with the SoundGate 2 and ready to stream audio Demonstration of the TV Adapter 2 Ensure the hearing instruments, SoundGate 2, and TV Adapter 2 are all powered on. Your SoundGate 2 battery should be fully charged for demonstration. The SoundGate 2 should be worn with the neck strap antenna around the neck. 1 Turn on the TV or begin playing a DVD through the TV which has been paired with the TV Adapter 2 2 Press the TV key on the SoundGate 2. The TV key on your SoundGate 2 will illuminate orange and the power indicator on the TV Adapter 2 will turn from green to orange. Note! Follow the instructions below to prepare the devices for use. 1 Connecting the Phone Adapter 2 to the landline phone 1 Connect the Phone Adapter 2 to a power outlet. Use the power adapter included within the Phone Adapter 2 packaging. 42 2 SN2_ILLU_PhoneAdapterToWallPower_CMYK_HI 2 The power indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 will be illuminated green when the power source is connected 3 3 Unplug the phone cable from the landline phone 4 Insert the phone cable into the “IN” connector of the Phone Adapter 2 IH_WB_enohPmorFelbaCenohPevomeR_ULLI_2NS 5 Connect the supplied phone cable to the “OUT” connector of the Phone Adapter 2. Plug the other end of the phone cable into the landline phone (or base station). 83 4 SN2_ILLU_InsertPhoneCableToAdapterIn_BW_HI 5 Sonic · Bluetooth® Connectivity Guide 11 Pairing the SoundGate 2 with the Phone Adapter 2 2 Place the SoundGate 2 on top of the Phone Adapter 2 – the pairing can take up to 60 seconds. The pairing is completed when the Phone Adapter 2 power indicator turns steady blue. Ensure the Phone Adapter 2 is connected to a power outlet, and the SoundGate 2 battery is charged and powered ON. The power indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 and the SoundGate 2 should be illuminated green. 1 Press and hold the SoundGate 2 power key for 5 – 6 seconds until the status indicator starts flashing blue rapidly 1 2 Demonstration of the landline phone Ensure that the hearing instruments are on. The SoundGate 2 should be worn with the neck strap antenna around the neck. 30 43 SN2_ILLU_SoundgateTopOfPhoneAdapter_HI SN2_ILLU_TopLedFlashingBlue_HI Answering a call Making a call 1 Call the landline number previously paired to the SoundGate 2 from any other telephone 1 Press the SoundGate 2 phone key. The user will hear a dial tone in the hearing instruments and the green light will illuminate in the SoundGate 2 phone key. The phone indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 will also illuminate green when streaming a call. 2 Press the SoundGate 2 phone key to accept the incoming call. The SoundGate 2 phone key and the Phone Adapter 2 phone indication will now illuminate green. 3 Begin speaking toward the SoundGate 2 microphone to initiate the conversation 4 To end the phone call at any time, press the SoundGate 2 phone key. The phone key will no longer illuminate and the previous listening program will resume. Note! For additional information on the installation and use of the Phone Adapter 2, please refer to the Phone Adapter 2 User Guide. 2 Pick up the handset from your landline phone and dial a phone number. Then return the handset to the landline phone cradle. The user will now hear the call tone. 3 When the other party answers the phone call, the conversation can begin 4 To end the phone call at any time, press the SoundGate 2 phone key.
