BARK OF THE "C" LION AND DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S NEWSLETTER “Hearts & Hands in Service” Volume 48, Issue 9 April 5, 2016 District Governor’s Message DG Bert Colley First of all, I must correct an error I made in my article last month. I said our District LOVF rep is PDG Norma Shoemaker. Wrong! Our LOVF rep is PDG Jack Turner. PDG Norma is our LCIF rep. My apologies to both of you, and to everyone who was confused by my remarks. There are only 3 months left before I have to turn over the reins to 1st Vice District Governor Mark Pennypacker. Mark is ready to lead us, whether we approve redistricting or not. We will vote on that issue at the State Convention in Roanoke on May 19-22. I encourage you to r to vote for 3M [Editor’s note: a list of all clubs in the proposed 3M districts is appended to this issue]. Remember that the District will have a meeting at Marquis Methodist Church in Staunton on April 16. We will vote to endorse PID Wayne Davis for Third Vice President of LCI. If you forgot to send me the Delegates Form, please just bring it with you, signed by either your Club President or Secretary. It’s time for the Incoming Officers’ Schools! We try to make it more convenient by holding them in three areas in the District. Each one starts at 9:00 a.m. and should be over by 11:30. There are three classes at each location: Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers. All are on Saturday~~ April 23 at the Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton; April 30 at the William Monroe Middle School in Stanardsville, and May 7 at Middletown Middle School. The schools are not limited to incoming officers; they are open to all interested Lions. Once your Club’s Officers and Directors have been elected, remember to report the information to the State (lions24c.org ; Club Officers Reporting Form) AND lionsclubs.org and then go to MyLCI. So much of our communication now is being done electronically that contact information has become more important. Please include email addresses! Inside This Issue The State Convention will be May 19 – 22 at the Hotel Roanoke. Just added: Certified Guiding Lion class Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If interested, please contact Tammie Brightwell, our State Secretary/Treasurer ASAP. You are sincerely appreciated! I know that it will be a challenge for your club’s delegates to come to Staunton on Saturday, April 16, 2016, to the Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church at 1614 West Beverly Street to cast your ballots, endorsing me. Special thanks to Rev. Bob Sharp, President of the Augusta Lions Club and District Governor Bert Colley for coordinating this meeting. The phone number at the church is 540-886-1176. It is exceedingly important to obtain as high a number of delegates there as possible. MD 24 Virginia has not had a President of Lions Clubs International for 72 years. It’s now time for District 24-C to take the first step by getting our delegates to Staunton so our sub-district can endorse a candidate for Third Vice President of LCI. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We appreciate everything you do for us to make this a reality. Sincerely, Lions Wayne and Marge Davis 5 2015-16 Multiple District 24 Awards Application forms for the State Achievement Award, 100% Club Secretary Award and 100% Club Treasurers Award can be found through a link http://www.e-district.org/sites/md24/page-11.php from the Lions of District 24-C website or you can go to the Lions of Virginia website. Recognizing the importance of this, Lions International has included the environment as one of the four campaigns of the Centennial Service Challenge (CSC). The goal is to serve 25 million people through each of the four campaigns. Each club that completes an environmental project during any year of the CSC will earn an award patch. The look of the award depends upon the number of CSC Campaigns reported. If a club completes all four campaigns in a year, they will receive a diamond award. Clubs that receive the diamond award for three or four of the CSC will receive a special pin for each member of their club that is active as of June 30, 2018. LCI has a list of environmental project ideas on their website. The projects are varied and can be tailored for any club. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve our world and receive both club and personal recognition.
