The

Recently, I stated that as believers, we have
been using our authority for secondary
reasons instead of the primary reason.
Believing God and using your authority for
a car or a house is not the primary purpose
of the authority of the believer. If we get
the primary purpose of our authority in
place, the secondary things will take care
of themselves. Matthew 6:33 says that “...
when you seek first the kingdom of God and
His righteousness, all these things shall be
added unto you.” You don’t have to run after
things, because when you put first things
first, things will run after you.
In Matthew 28:18, Jesus said that “...all
authority has been given to Him.” The Word
also says that as He is, so are we (1 John
4:17). So, if all authority has been given to
Jesus, then all authority has also been given
to us. You are not going to get authority; you
already have all of the authority that you will
ever need. Now you have got to start living
like it.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus says, “Go
therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with
you always, even to the end of the age.” The
primary purpose for your being filled with
Holy Spirit is so that you will become His
disciples. Speaking in tongues is the initial
evidence of your being filled with Holy Spirit,
but the real evidence of your being filled is
that you are teaching people to observe the

things that He’s taught you. Who are you
teaching the things that He has taught you?
What are we going to do? Are we just going
to keep coming to church, and not see any
results? In Luke 10:1-20, Jesus is training,
work is being done, and then there is
rejoicing. I can’t go to work until I’m trained.
Are you being trained, but not working? After
you’ve been trained, you are supposed to go
to work. Then Jesus lets us in on what we
should be rejoicing about – He said to rejoice
because names are being translated out of
the kingdom of darkness! Heaven rejoices
over ONE who is translated from darkness
into light!
Listen - this church has been known as a
prosperity church for awhile now. But do
you know what this man wants this church
to be known for? I want us to be known for
putting first things first. What is the primary
purpose for Jesus coming to the earth? He
came to seek and to save that which was
lost. And if we’re not doing that, we’re not
putting what should be first, first. Here I
am - your biggest fan, cheerleader, coach,
and drill sergeant, saying call your family,
call a neighbor, get them born-again, and
teach them to observe the things that He’s
taught you. And lo, He will be with you. You
won’t want for anything! Get in your place
and your position of authority, and fulfill His
command, in Jesus’ name. We do the work!

Happy Anniversary!
Happy 20th Anniversary, Pastor Mike! I honor and appreciate you as my man of God. You’ve been
pastoring and teaching the people of Spirit of Faith for 20 years but for me, it has been well over 20
years. I remember when you used to come to my house and have Bible Study with me – this was before
we got married. Then once we were married, it continued and we started having Bible Study with
anyone who wanted to come. That small living room began to get so packed that we had to open up
the windows so the people who could not get in could hear the Word from outside. Those times, along
with these times, have impacted my life greatly and have helped me to become the woman of God that
I am now. I want you to know I have your back, and I love and respect you so much. Continue to obey
God and teach the Word so lives will continue to change. I know all of heaven is saluting the awesome
job that you are doing.
I know as some of you are reading this you are saying, “What is the life lesson in this?” I am glad you
asked! This is a time to honor and appreciate our man of God. The Bible has instructed us to give honor
where it is due. So let’s honor our gift the Father has given to us. 1 Timothy 5:17 states “Let the elders
who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the Word and doctrine.”
We have a pastor who loves God’s people and wants the very best for them. So, on today and everyday
here after, give honor to our gift, our pastor, Pastor Michael A. Freeman.

Bible Study
To Tithe or Not to Tithe
Assistant Pastor Dewayne Freeman
Is it true that tithing was under the law? Do you
believe that tithing is not for present day? What
say ye? There are many Christians who are not
active tithers because of their opinion on tithing
or their lack of understanding on tithing. If you
are not sure of how to answer
these questions, don’t fret. Our
latest Bible Study discussion
prompted much dialogue on
this topic. Instead of relying on
mere opinion, our panel simply
referenced the Word.
Now, on the other hand, there
are Christians who are tithing;
but they can’t give a clear
explanation of why they tithe.
Think about it for a moment.
What do you say when you are
asked, “Why do you tithe?”
Believer, it is the will of God
that you are always prepared
to give an answer to every
man who seeks to know why you do what you do
[1 Peter 3:15]. Know this, your answer should be
according to the Word of God.
The first time an act of tithing is acknowledged
is in the accounting of Abram and Melchizedek
[Genesis 17:20]. However, this took place about
430 years before the law. In other words, tithing
predates the law; but it was instituted under the
law. If that’s the truth [and it is] then what caused
Abram to bring God the tenth? After all, there was
no Malachi to command “Bring ye all the tithe…”
Abram was so thankful unto God for delivering his
enemies into his hands, he wanted to bless Him
[through His high priest].
“OK, that’s good for the Old Testament days; but
we are now under grace. Where does the Word tell
us to tithe in the New Testament?” Thrilled that you
asked. Hebrews 7:1-7 really
explains the aforementioned
scripture. It is v.8 that sheds
further light on tithing today;
go ahead and read it. In the
meantime, let’s take a look at
what Jesus Himself says about
tithing in Matthew 23:23:
“Woe to you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
pay tithe of mint and anise and
cumin, and have neglected the
weightier matters of the law:
justice and mercy and faith.
These you ought to have done,
without leaving the others
undone.” NKJV (Jesus is actually
sanctioning tithing in this scripture.)
The Word even tells us in Galatians 3 that Christ
has redeemed us from the curse of the law. The
law is NOT against the promise of God.
There is so much that needs to be heard in this
discussion. If you are not a tither or if you are a
tither and you don’t know why you tithe, this
lesson is available to you. Bible Study is a time
to come out, hear the Word of God, and evoke
understanding.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in October,
1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect battered women’s
advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The
Day of Unity soon became a special week when a range of activities were conducted at the local, state,
and national levels.
In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed. That same year the
first national toll-free hotline was begun. In 1989 the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Commemorative Legislation was passed by the U.S. Congress. Such legislation has passed every year
since with NCADV providing key leadership in this effort.

A Resolution for a call to Prayer was established in 2002 to launch the Day of Prayer for the Peace of
Jerusalem which is recognized on the first Sunday in October. Since then, hundreds of millions of people
around the world join together on this day to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. In just a few years, this
event has quickly become the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history. This day has been set aside
each year to raise global awareness and intercession for God’s purposes in Israel, knowing that this hour
in history is critical and our authority in prayer is great. Though we pray every day for Israel, we seek on
this day to unite believers around the world in raising a cry to Heaven on behalf of this troubled, but
strategic land and its people. We believe in God’s promises for His beloved nation and fervently pray to
hasten the day when He brings fulfillment to His word.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) was established in 1984. Since its inception,
NBCAM has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer issues and has evolved along
with the national dialogue on breast cancer. Today, NBCAM recognizes that although many great strides
have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished.
Today, they remain dedicated to educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast
health by practicing regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, scheduling regular visits and annual
mammograms with their healthcare provider, adhering to prescribed treatment, and knowing the facts
about recurrence.
The third Friday in October each year is National Mammography Day, first proclaimed by President
Clinton in 1993. On this day, or throughout the month, women are encouraged to make a mammography
appointment. In 2013, National Mammography Day will be celebrated on October 18.

One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. 1
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women age 40-50 years in the U.S.. 5
Breast cancer is second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths among women in the U.S. 1
The five-year relative survival rate for all women with breast cancer found at a local stage (cancer
that has not spread) in the U.S. is 99 percent, 84 percent for regional disease and 23 percent for
distant stage disease.4
In 2012, an estimated 226,870 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women and
2,190 cases among men in the U.S. 4
An estimated 39,510 women and 410 men will die from breast cancer in the U.S. in 2012. 4
A case of breast cancer is diagnosed among women every two minutes, and a woman dies of breast
cancer every 13 minutes in the U.S.4
There are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors alive in the U.S. today, the largest group of
cancer survivors in the country.8
Approximately 5 to 10 percent of breast cancers in the U.S. are due to inherited BRCA1 or BRCA 2
genetic mutations(less than 1 percent of the general population). 1
Approximately 95 percent of all breast cancers in the U.S. occur in women 40 years of age and
older.1

Water baptism is conducted on the first Sunday of each month.
Candidates must be at least 10 years old and all candidates must
complete the Baptism Application. The application is available in the
foyer at each location. Completed applications are to be returned

service. A Baptism Ministry representative will call you to provide more
information and to schedule your baptism date. Please remember that
all baptism candidates must arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. on their
scheduled date. A Helping Hands representative will meet you in the
foyer and escort you to the waiting area. Candidates arriving after
5:30 p.m. will not be permitted to participate in the baptism service for
