th
Annual Farm Tour!
October 25 & 26, 2014
The Tour
Take advantage of this once-a-year event. Thirty-four local farms are opening their doors and
inviting you to experience farm life. Each farm is offering something special. Families can
enjoy tours that include barnyard animals, farm-fresh goods and refreshments. You can attend
a workshop on beekeeping, take a hayride or talk to farmers who are committed to organic
production. Visit working cattle and goat ranches, a dairy or a winery. And of course, purchase
amazingly fresh goods directly from the farm.
Eat, Drink and Live Local
What’s the best way to ensure the freshest, tastiest, most awesome food? Buy it directly from the
source! Which is why New Leaf Market Co-op proudly carries a large selection of local products.
Supporting local growers and producers ensures that people who love the land, who protect their
livestock, and who produce delicious, safe and healthy products, are the ones creating your food.
Get to know your local farmers and producers and learn first hand how quality food and products
are created. Invest in yourself, invest in your community, buy local.

Saturday, October 25, 8 am-2 pm
The farm is a growing/education area for
America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend
(ASHBB) to fight hunger in the Big Bend. Edwin
Lott allows us to grow a rotation of produce not
always available through our regular sources on
2.5 acres of land. This enables us to quickly get
the freshest, healthiest food into the hands of
our neighbors struggling with food insecurity.
Volunteers will often pick produce on a Saturday
morning, our partner agencies will meet us at the
farm midday to pick up the produce and will have
the food in the hands of those in need by the
end of the day. The farm is funded by donations
and staffed by volunteers. Recently ASHBB
hosted farm visits from area schools. Students
are getting first-hand experience of where food
comes from and what it takes to produce. More
volunteers are always welcome to participate in
this very enjoyable and rewarding experience of
growing food to help fight hunger.
Directions: From Tallahassee, take Hwy 27 for
11 miles from the Apalachee Parkway/Capital
Circle intersection. Before the flashing light for
Hwy 59, turn right on St Augustine Rd. The road
will bend to the left. The farm is on the corner of

Aunt Louise’s Farm is located in Jefferson County,
more specifically Waukeenah, Florida. The whole
family is needed for the farm chores. Sam (13)
is in charge of raising our rabbits. Nathan (17) is
responsible for the pigs and the Great Pyrenees

chickens, guinea fowl, sheep, zebus and her
personal favorite, the GOATS. Uncle Bob is at the
ready to build, repair or assist with any farm task.
The three older boys and friends help with larger
tasks as needed. We have all learned so much in
the past few years and want to share it with you.
This year we have added turkeys, ducks, peafowl,
and an awesome four-horned ram. We have also
started milking a Nubian goat—we have fresh
milk every day!
We are happy to be hosting THE MAZE, a threeacre corn maze of fun to get lost in. Tickets are
$5 per person for the maze. We will also have
free things to do: animals to pet, a corn pit to
play in, a tractor train ride and a hayride through
the pecan grove. We will have concessions for

Tours: Ongoing
Clear Lake Farm of Lamont, Florida, is a
small 57-acre family farm. Our goal is to live
harmoniously with nature while supplying our
family and friends with healthy, sustainable
foods. We use each animal’s natural abilities to
help us farm. Goats are browsers and ours have
been busy clearing the woodlands. Maremma
and Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs
live with the goats and protect the farm from
predators. We use the pigs’ natural rooting
and the chickens’ and turkeys’ foraging to turn
and add compost to the soil. Our guineas are
voracious foragers of ticks and bugs—an allnatural way to control unwanted insects. Our
pasture-fed Bourbon Red turkeys are all born
and raised on the farm. Order your own freerange turkey for this year’s holiday meal. There is
nothing quite like the taste of a pasture-fed bird.
Walking tours will be ongoing throughout the day
and will include all of the animals and gardens.
Our family has discovered the joys of living and
working in a beautiful, peaceful setting and wish
to share it with you. Farm products available for
sale will include heritage turkeys, pasture poultry
broilers, free-range pork and free-range chicken
eggs. The lunch menu will feature our own
chicken and pork, plus other homemade
goodies. Or bring your own bag
lunch and a fishing pole to enjoy
a picnic with your family down
at the lake (the water is high
this year!).
Directions: From Tallahassee, take Apalachee
Pkwy/US-27 S. Go approximately 27 miles to
Lamont FL. Continue through Lamont (now
called US-27 S/ US-19). Go approximately 3.5
miles. Look for Farm Tour signs. Take a left on

Sunday, 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm
Dickerson Farms is surrounded by rolling
hayfields and pinewood. It is based on the cycles
of life—what springs forth from the ground,
falls back to the ground. Good soil recycles
anything and everything—it can prevent waste
and the recycling returns nutrients back to the
soil. We have chickens and rabbits that break
down vegetation that is then fed to worms
(vermiculture) or used directly in the gardens.
The garden grows what is then used to feed us,
as well as the chickens, rabbits and goats. The
worms create a great growing medium that
is mixed with pine bark to create
potting soil. The plants are sold and much
returns later as clippings to be fed to worms,
chickens, and goats that are then used to fertilize
the soil.

in the woods growing sustainably for food and
healing. Visit Morgana, Avalon, Silver Rose and
Nut Grass Boar goats and see how rotational
“pasture” areas can support holisticallyraised goats. We spore shiitake mushrooms
on hardwood logs every February for fruiting
in October. See how you, too, can build a 30foot mushroom cave. Spored logs will also be
available for purchase. We sell an assortment
of goods from the farm at farmers markets. Our
wonderfully scented potpourri from our dried
herbs and flowers is a favorite! There is always
something new at the farm, most recently a 40foot shade house chock full of plants and 250
feet of elderberry canes for future jellies and
wine making. Come and learn about the irrigation
water-conserving methods we use for our fruit
trees and vegetables. We hope to inspire you
to be as self-sufficient as you desire. Come ask

We are a small family-owned and operated farm
growing five acres of USDA certified organic
u-pick blueberries. The farm is our home and
we try to live in partnership with the land. We
also have a vegetable and flower garden and a
certified organic two-level greenhouse to visit.
We have added a new building this year called
The Shed, which serves as our sales office. We
conserve both water and soil, fertilize lightly
with organics, and water with a drip system using
untreated well water. We use no-till rows for our
blueberries and grow grass between the rows to
prevent soil erosion. No mechanical harvesting is
used. Our farm is a welcoming home for wildlife,
providing water, food and habitat. The National
Wildlife Federation has recognized Green
Meadows Farm as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.
Local blueberry plant producers Ed and Liz Coon
will be here to share information on growing
your own blueberries. They will have plants for
sale. Tasty homemade blueberry treats and our
farm cookbook will be available for sale. You can
also meet our latest Border Collie, Blue “Berry”

Lake Seminole Farm is a family-owned
mushroom farm located on the shores of
Lake Seminole in southwest Georgia between
Quincy, Florida, and Bainbridge, Georgia. We
started the farm as a project to put our land
to work and produce what it naturally does,
edible mushrooms. The steep shoreline of
Lake Seminole experiences weather conditions
that favor a healthy mushroom habitat. To
demonstrate our commitment to delivering
natural and organically grown shiitakes we
have obtained USDA Organic Certification. We
grow our shiitake mushrooms naturally, free of
pesticides, herbicides or additives. The spawn
used to inoculate our logs are certified organic
and not genetically modified and we only use
trees that have not been treated with pesticides.
Fresh shiitake mushrooms, shiitake powder and
shiitake grow kits will be for sale.

Longview Farms is a family farm built on the
sandy soils of a reclaimed pine forest near the
Ochlocknee River. We strive to take what the land
has given us and to make the best use of it while
improving the soil and restoring the forests to a
healthy longleaf pine ecosystem.
We produce naturally grown vegetables, beef
raised completely on grass, and natural wood
charcoal and biochar. We also partner with
Cornerstone Learning Community, serving as
an outdoor classroom for their students in
Pre-K through eighth grade.

Love’s Labor Farm is a 40-acre farm located at
the eastern edge of Liberty County, Florida. We
produce pastured poultry and pork for ourselves
and for others who want to consume meat as a
part of their diet, but who are concerned about
the ethical implications of large-scale meat
production and about the health implications
of consuming meat raised on diets that include
growth hormones and antibiotics. Our customers
are people who think about their food, where it
comes from, how it is raised, and the effect that
its consumption will have on their overall health.
New to the farm in 2014 is the addition of 160
blueberry bushes that are growing beautifully
along with several other fruit trees and a new
cane patch. Walking tours will be available
throughout the day. We will have fun activities for
the kids including horseshoes, animals to visit, a
nature craft, corn bin, a working, hand-pump well
(always a favorite of our young visitors) and more.
Plenty of photo ops are available.
Our farm has easy access on all paved roads with
plenty of parking. Farm products available for
sale will include pastured broilers, cane syrup
and free-range pork. We’ll also have sausage
dogs available for a delicious breakfast or lunch.
Our farm is a work in progress, but it is work that
we enjoy. We love the land, we love our work, we
love the life we have made here on our farm, and
we would love to share it with you.

Millstone Plantation is an old, Leon County
farmstead established in the mid 1800’s. At one
time, Millstone grew and provided fresh organic
herbs to many of Tallahassee’s restaurants.
Millstone has always had livestock, particularly
sheep, raised for their wool. The most recent
matriarch of the family was an avid weaver and
fiber arts artist. Millstone Plantation was left to
the Millstone Institute for Preservation and the
100 acres of significant archeological lands along
the shores of Lake McBride are now undergoing
a renaissance. The gardens and lands are being
returned to their native, organic state, dye
gardens are being planted for dying the wool
from the ever-present sheep, weaving studios are
opening using some of the original homestead
looms, and the farmstead is being reclaimed
as is the beautiful 1860’s farmhouse. Millstone
Plantation is also considered a “significant”
archeological site with evidence of activities from
many native tribes.
Today, Millstone Plantation is becoming a Folk
School featuring the teaching and sharing of folk
skills from farming to weaving to woodworks to
conservation and environmental stewardship.
We are opening Millstone to the public for
special events to share in the excitement of reestablishing this vital farmstead. This year we will
have demonstrations and workshops in weaving,
woodworking, and pottery and will offer for sale
homegrown/homemade foods for picnicking. We
have sheep and llamas presently on the property
and you may spot the family of bald eagles that
nest on the property. We will also offer farmstyle fun for families, such as stone skipping
on the lake, horseshoes and demonstrations
in “knapping” (how the native tribes created
arrowheads!). Join us and welcome Millstone
back!
Products made by our artisans—weaving, pottery,
woodwork, artwork, sundries featuring Millstone
(cards, etc.)—will be available for sale.
Directions: From Tallahassee, travel north on
Thomasville Rd/US-319. Pass Kerry Forest Pkwy
and the Walmart on your left. Prepare to turn
left on to Millstone Plantation Rd. Follow this
road and do not turn left into neighborhood, but
proceed on dirt road, which leads directly to our
entrance gate where you will be shown where to
park.

Monticello Vineyards & Winery is a small, Florida
farm winery located on the 50-acre farm of
Ladybird Organics. Situated in the Red Hills
bioregion of Jefferson County, Florida, the winery
features wines made from organic Muscadine
grapes. The farm and all vineyards are USDA
Certified Organic. A walking farm tour of this
unique, integrated organic farm system will be
offered every hour.
Over 18 different varieties of Muscadine
grapes are grown on site. Small batches of
handcrafted wines are manufactured, reflecting
the unique soils and sunshine of each vintage

being implemented on the farm. Each wine
is a one-of-a-kind product of place, labeled
with the classic Jefferson County Courthouse

Myrtle Creek Farm is a blueberry and blackberry
farm. We started growing berries about 10 years
ago. We have 22 acres, but are growing on about
five. Ten years ago, as a firefighter, I started
thinking about something to grow on the farm
when I retired. Walking through our virgin woods
and wetlands I noticed wild blueberries and
realized that was the answer—blueberries! And
that was correct. We had our soil tested and it was
perfect for berries. We use organic practices and
our berries are delicious. In addition to berries,
we have lots of fun with hayrides, bonfires and
parties at the barn. You will enjoy touring the
farm and sitting for a spell to have a sausage
dog and a bluebird cupcake. We look forward
to seeing you. Bluebird cupcakes, blueberry
syrup and blueberry ice cream will be for sale.
Limestone Meathouse sausage dogs/firehouse
beans will be available for lunch.
Directions: From Tallahassee, take Apalachee

south. Turn left on Tram Rd just past Southwood,
and continue 12.7 miles. Myrtle Creek Farm will
be on the left. If you Google directions, it will say,

Five years ago, we at Ocheesee Creamery
decided to process our own milk on our farm.
We do it the old-fashioned way—pasteurized, but
not homogenized—resulting in a whole milk with
cream on the top. Ocheesee is also one of the
few dairies that sells its milk in glass bottles. Did
you know milk tastes better in glass, it is better
for the environment and it’s nostalgic? Ocheesee
also produces fresh farm butter. You will be able
to purchase: whole milk; chocolate milk; butter;
cream; drinkable yogurt; vanilla, chocolate, mint
chocolate chip, salty caramel and coffee ice
cream; cheese and jams. Oh, so delicious!
When you visit you will see where we milk the
cows and process our dairy products. You will
also see our animals and what it is like to be on
the farm. You will be able to taste our whole, skim
or chocolate milk.
Directions: From Tallahassee, take I-10 W to exit
152. Continue on FL-69 S towards Blountstown
for approximately 4 miles south. Entrance is on
the left. Sign at the road reads, “Shady Nook
Farm,” and there is a sign that says, “Ocheesee

County.

Visit a working dairy goat farm with Nubians,
Saanens, Alpines, Toggenburgs and LaManchas.
Tour the farm on a hay wagon pulled by a real
John Deere tractor, meet the farmers, meet
the goats, meet the chickens, cuddle with the
kids, see the dairy and learn about milking and
processing the milk, making cheese, yogurt and
soap.
We started the farm with the intent to become
more sustainable and to have access to local
foods that are not laced with antibiotics or
hormones. As we grew, we realized that other
people shared our desire and so we started
sharing our food. We operate our farm with the
help of WWOOF interns through the WorldWide
Opportunities on Organic Farms, who learn how
to operate their own farms some day. You will
also be able to meet some of our farm friends,
other sustainable farmers and artists who have
been invited to share our farm day with us.
Products for sale include raw goat milk, goat
milk yogurt, goat cheese (chevre, fromage, feta),
goat yogurt ranch dressing and goat milk soap.
All products are labeled and sold as animal
food/animal food ingredient only, not for human
consumption per Florida State Law.

produce, meat and eggs. Limited seating, $35
per person. Email for details.
Turkey Hill Farm is proud to be a founding farm
of the New Leaf Market Co-op Farm Tour. This
year we are offering a Garden Brunch catered
by the Miccosukee Root Cellar! If you want to
learn about composting and growing organically,
Turkey Hill has it all. The farm is 89 acres of
diverse ecosystems in eastern Leon County. On
the 20-acre hill we grow plant sets, vegetables,
fruits and shiitake mushrooms for sale at local
markets, to select restaurants and online through
the Red Hills Online Market (www.rhomarket.
com). We farm in the open fields, as well as in
the high shade of planted pines. The selective
use of these microclimates and two unheated
high tunnels allow us to grow almost year round.
There is a small citrus grove, a fig orchard,
Japanese persimmons, pears, blueberries, sugar
cane and muscadine grapes. Elephant garlic,
shallots, sweet potatoes, winter squash, lettuces,
arugula, winter greens and shiitake mushrooms
are all staples through the winter months.
Turkey Hill Farm is Certified Naturally Grown
and uses absolutely NO synthetic chemical
fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides or fungicides.
We build healthy soil with compost and cover
crops. Seasonal produce and garden starts will
be available for purchase.
Farmer Herman’s extensive composting program
is the basis for our farm fertility. Farmer Herman
Holley and Miss Louise Divine welcome you to
their farm.
