CAT / GRIZ Tournament Saturday September 28 Briarwood Board of Directors th 10:00 Shotgun 2-Person Net Best Ball Match Play Format Officers: President: Carey Ziebarth Vice President: Carol Kirby Treasure/Secretary: Greg Glueckert $25 per Player Food provided by Bertelson’s BBQ Directors: Paul Keneally Dirk Bauwens Chris White Joe Rand Matt Braukmann Bruce Hamm News from the President Carey Ziebarth Good day Members, Well another month in the books and we had another fantastic weather month. I hope you all have enjoyed the course as we move into what I feel is the best time of year to play golf. Fall golf is usually nice weather, changes temperatures, changing of the leaves and much less crowded. All good stuff!! Congratulations to all the club champions who survived a tough two days at the Briarwood. The course was certainly a challenge!! Hopefully you have all seen some positives in the restaurant over the last month as our new crew gets settled in. It has to be tough stepping into our club brand new and living up to everyone’s expectations. I feel we are improving and I hope you feel the same. Also, thanks for your input on the recent survey about the simulators. The input and support was very positive. We still have a huge need to fill positions on all of our committees. I would ask everyone to consider showing some interest in YOUR golf club. Each of us has ownership in the Briarwood and it is all our responsibility to make things happen. Some of the committees we need participation on are Membership. Greens, Golf, House. Please get involved today by contacting any board member or the pro-shop. Lastly, I wanted to remind each of you how special it is to be an owner of such a great club. Please keep this in mind when you are out playing and you see someone who may abuse your club. There should be no reason an owner should allow a cart to drive on a green by another member or guest, park off the cart path two feet, fill a toilet up with paper towels, or display any act of destruction on the course! I have seen lately, some acts that are not acceptable by golfers, be members or their guest, and I hope you can all help keep this from happening. Hope you all have had a great summer and thanks for your support of our Golf Club. Sincerely, Carey News from the Pro Shop Scott Pekovich, Head Golf Pro What a great summer we have had here in the Pro- Shop! The Club Championships and the Midnight Masters events were very well attended and fun was had by all. Congratulations to the following 2013 Briarwood Club Champions: Men’s Carey Ziebarth Ladies Lisa Forsberg SR Men Joe Rand SR Ladies Janice Duke Again, thank you to all (74) Members who participated, what a great event! September Events: Sept 5th SM Energy (1pm Shotgun) Sept 6th Montana Stock Growers (9am Shotgun) Sept 10th Realtor Golf Tourney (9 holes – 1pm Shotgun) Sept 12th Billings High School Golf Tourney (8am Shotgun) Sept 13th YellowJacket Cup – MSU B Fundraiser (12pm Shotgun) Sept 15th “Briarwood Open” (All Day) Sept 16th Sysco Classic Sept 17th-19th Course Aerification Sept 28th CAT-GRIZ Match Play (10am Shotgun) We are going to have another busy month out here at Briarwood, let us know if there is anything the Pro-Shop Staff can do to make your Membership here at Briarwood more enjoyable! Golf Tip of the Month: Putting – All putts are to be hit straight!! Just pick a spot when aiming to accommodate for the break you are expecting, keep your head still and make your putting stroke. Golf Etiquette: Please make an extra effort when driving your carts to keep them on the paths when available and away from the trouble areas in order to keep the course in excellent shape from tee to green. News from the Maintenance Sean Sullivan, CGCS Sept. 17th, 18th, and 19th will be the official start of the aeration process. Please adjust your golfing schedule accordingly. Also, of note is that due to an outside tournament on Monday the 16th, the aeration will be taking place Tuesday through Thursday. We will attempt to get as much done as possible in the 3 days, however with a small crew we may not get as much done as we hope without going into regular playing times. The course is need of a complete aeration , so I hope that you can deal with some disruption. Otherwise, the course held up well to the summer, including the late heat wave in August. I'm reasonably happy with the performance of the course throughout the summer and the crew did a good job in my absence at Muirfield. Without going into a scolding about un-repaired ballmarks and divots on the par 3's, both seemed to get worst during the later stages of August. I'll leave to you to figure out why. We are having to manage our water, more than normal with the Yellowstone River being so low. We have less ability to bring water to the course, at the same time with the heat we have to continue to irrigate heavily to keep the grass from going into stress dormancy. So if you notice the water in the lower pond is a little lower than normal, don't be alarmed everything is under control. News from the CLUBHOUSE Eric Smith, Food & Beverage Director New Menu!!! As our updated menu is finalized and rolled out this coming month we look forward to the different items that everyone will be enjoying. We are of course keeping the favorites that everyone loves so well. However, we hope that you will try the exciting new things coming your way. A few things to keep in mind as we get this menu underway, the presentation of the food may be a bit different than what you are accustomed to seeing and we hope a bit more special, so please bear with us during the transition stages. In addition, a VERY IMPORTANT point, for folks that have allergies or sensitivities to certain foods or spices, please, please let your server know so that we can adjust your meal accordingly so that you can enjoy everything that we have to offer. New Staff We are looking forward to seeing some brand new people in our restaurant as well! Many of our bar staff and servers have moved on to college and to bigger and better things. We are in the process of bringing in quite a few new people. We know that you will help welcome them and help them to feel at home here at The Briarwood. Goodbyes Sadly, we are also losing some of our friends here at the restaurant. This month we are losing Kayla, Phil Peyton, and Kim. Everyone is moving on to bigger things and we wish them all of the best in their endeavors and their lives. You will be missed!!!!!!
