Location, installation and ventilation 5. Electrical cords safety a) Install the terminal so that its position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, do not place it on a bed, sofa, rug or any similar surface. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles and the point where they exit from the apparatus. b) Install the terminal away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers or on a book shelf, unless adequate ventilation is provided. 6. Maintenance c) Place the terminal in a stable location able to support its weight. Do not attempt any repair or maintenance or you could be exposed to dangerous voltages and other hazards. Refer all servicing to one of our qualified technicians. 7. Damages requiring repair by a technician 2. Cleaning and accessories a) Plug or power cord is damaged. Unplug the device before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth instead. Do not use the terminal near water or in a very humid environment. Only use accessories specified by the manufacturer. b) Apparatus has been exposed to water or other liquids. c) Apparatus has been dropped, housing has been damaged or objects have fallen on the apparatus. 3. Contact with objects or liquids Never insert objects of any kind through the terminal openings, as they may cause a fire or an electric shock. Avoid spreading any kind of liquid on the terminal. 4. Power supply This device must be plugged into a power supply indicated on the adapter. In case you doubt the type of power supply to your home, contact your power company. Avoid overloading outlets, extension cords or power bars. This equipment has a polarized alternating current line plug (with one blade wider than the other). The plug will fit into a power outlet only one way, which is a safety feature. Such safety measure as the polarized plug should be fully observed. 2 d) Obvious change in terminal performance, indicating a need for maintenance. If the terminal stops functioning normally according to the user guide, follow instructions described in the guide only. Any other adjustments of the other setting features may cause damages requiring considerable repair time by a technician to bring the apparatus back to normal. Should you have a problem which is not listed here, please contact our technical support. DCT user guide Introduction axion.ca Congratulations on receiving a digital Mororola terminal, one of the most advanced available today. It is easy to set and operate. You can now benefit from features such as: Programming guide allowing you to conveniently select and view programs, also providing content description. Pay-per-view events and recent movies easily accessible. CD quality sound and DVD quality images. Parental control allowing you to limit access to some channels, shows or timeframes along with a search tool to find your favorite shows. To get the most out of your DCT, please read interactive on-screen guide section, as well as your remote control user guide. Motorola DCT6200, DCT6412, DCT6416, DCT3416 Thank you for choosing a Motorola high definition digital terminal. Models DCT6412, DCT6416 and DCT3416 provide you with digital recording functions along with a double tuner, which makes them some of the most advanced interactive terminals. With the DCT, Motorola has merged many digital cable functions, infinite programming options, interactive programming, CD quality music, flexibility of a double tuner personal digital recorder, as well as great image and sound quality of high definition television. Many DCT models include an integrated hard drive for hours of personal video recording allowing recording of HD content, in addition to viewing and recording options. The DCT User guide introduces you to DCT basic features. Diagrams, on-screen menu features, in addition to Frequently asked Questions and PVR and digital services sections, will help you make the most of your entertainment experience. DCT user guide 3 Section 1 - Your new terminal axion.ca Recording capacity (DCT6412/6416/3416) Recording capacity varies with video format. Here are a few guidelines to determine recording capacity: • Digital shows: Digital cable shows are from channel 100 and above. Up to 100 hours of standard digital format programming can be recorded with the DCT6416/3416 and up to 75 hours with the DCT6412. • High definition shows (HD TV): Shows aired in high definition can be recorded in the same format, as long as your PVR is connected to an HD television set. Up to 20 hours of HD programming can be recorded with DCT6416/3416, and up to 25 hours with DCT6412. Neither the maker nor the TV guide provider can guarantee the exact amount of programming data that can be recorded. The approximate time depends on the type of program. GUIDE TIP: PVR is not a long-term storage device. To maximize your storage space, review the contents of your library regularly and discard the recordings you no longer wish to save. Live TV recording Thanks to its 2 tuners the terminal allows you to simultaneously record live content from 2 channels. These tuners automatically store up 2 hours of standard definition content and half an hour of high definition. This allows you to rewind and pause TV from the moment you tuned in. When you switch channels, information stored from the preceding channel is lost. Status bar Located on the bottom of the screen, the status allows control of content stored in the terminal buffer memory. When time bar is entirely green, 2 hours of SD content is stored (30 minutes of HD content). Time bar fills up further as tuner is set on the same channel. For example, if terminal is set for 30 minutes on the same channel, you can rewind up to 30 minutes on the time bar, that is, from the time the tuner was set on this channel. You can switch between both tuners with the SWAP button of the remote control. When pausing the first tuner and swapping to the other one, the first tuner will continue storing information. If different shows have been stored, the terminal will assign them each a different colour. The ongoing show is always the one with the green time bar. You can save stored content by pressing REC and recording it on your terminal. An ongoing show that is fully stored on the time bar will be recorded in full. An ongoing show that isn’t stored from the beginning will not be recorded in full. Live or recorded TV viewing control is similar as with DVD player. The PAUSE button puts viewing on hold; PLAY button resumes viewing, while the STOP button ceases viewing altogether. You may also fast forward or rewind recordings with FFWD and REW (press up to 4 times to increase speed). Combine FFWD and REW buttons with PAUSE for slower motion. DCT user guide 27 Section 2 - Digital cable access axion.ca To record TV program There are two ways to record a TV program with the interactive guide: 1. One-time recording; 2. Series recording. DCT user guide 29 Section 2 - Digital cable access axion.ca Record: This option allows you to decide whether terminal should record every episode or only prime time, hence discarding reruns. WARNING: This option works only with series that have a specific description for each episode on the TV guide. This option is not functional if the series has a single general description for every episodes. Save: This option manages how many episodes of a single series will be stored at once on the hard drive. For example, setting it on 3 means the terminal will automatically erase the oldest episode when there are more than 3. This prevents unnecessary overload of the hard drive. When recording all episodes, hard drive stores episodes without deleting any of them. Save until: This option protects recordings from being unintentionally deleted. When set on Space is needed, terminal will erase an episode of this series as the hard drives reaches 80% of its capacity to free disk space. When set on I delete, terminal will not delete episodes from this series when hard drive reaches 80% of its capacity. Record programs on: This option allows you to record episodes only on the channel it was set up to or on any channel the series might be aired. Start/Stop recording: Sets recording start/stop at the exact time or a few minutes before and after scheduled time. WARNING: Recordings starting minutes before scheduled broadcast must not conflict with other recordings set on the tuner.
