Board of Director Nominees
Diann Small - I lived in Ohio till I married Tom Small
and then in 1969 we moved to Texas.
I have been interested in arts and crafts for a lot of years.
When I started carving in 1994 I enjoyed it so much I
stayed with it. I have only missed 1 meeting with the guild
and have volunteered in many capacities.
I have been active in the Central Texas Woodcarving
Association since 1994. I was a TA for Leander Schools in
elementary for 15 years and then substituted for15 more
years. I would love to be on the board for another term.
Cal Stewart - Cal has a BS degree from the University
of Northern Colorado and a commercial photography
degree from the American School of Modern Photography.
Cal retired in 2006 after 20 years of service with Raytheon
where he managed the classified contract and security
education and training sections for Raytheon, Network
Centric Systems in North Texas. Cal is also retired from
the U.S. Air Force and prior to coming to Raytheon, he
was assigned to the Pentagon as an Imagery Intelligence
and Operations Intelligence Officer reporting to the Assistant Chief of Staff for
Intelligence Collection.
Cal is also an award winning wildfowl sculptor with over 37 years carving
experience. He judges, exhibits and competes at various shows throughout
the region and has won many First Place and Best of Show awards. Cal is
a member of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild and serves on the board of
directors. He teaches in Texas, mostly for the Texas Woodcarvers’ Guild
spring and fall roundup as well as in his private studio in Fairview, Texas.
Cal joined the Texas Gourd Society in 2009 and is a member of the Dallas
Gourd Patch. He enjoys all aspect of gourd art but is extremely fond of
reproducing Native American art on gourds. Cal recently won Best of
Show at the 2012 Texas Gourd Show with his reproduction of ancient
Mimbres pottery.

George Vaughn - I have always enjoyed some type of woodworking all of
my life, having taken all the wood shop classes in high
school. I started out with basic furniture and wood turning,
with turning eventually being my basic focus for many
years.
After early retirement from a major oil service company, I
began carving when a friend of my wife's gave me a 6
piece carving set in 1993. I ordered some carving books to
help me get started and the first two projects were a rose
and a dragon.
While attending a small town trade days in 1994 in West Texas, I discovered
there was a carving club in Midland and they introduced me to the Texas Wood
Carving Guild and I attended my first TWG Show in Austin, Texas, from that
point on I was hooked. I have had the opportunity to have studied with some of
the top carvers in the United States in their respective fields.
Since 1998 I have taught many classes in Santa's, Realistic Mountain Men,
Indians, Carousel Horses, Cypress Knees and Fish. Currently my main focus is
on Realistic Fish and Santa's. Charlotte and I have owned The Tool Box for the
last twelve years.
I have attended every TWG event since the Fall Show of 1994 except for the
Spring Show in 2009 when Charlotte was recovering from an accident. I have
been active in TWG for 18 years and have held the Office of Secretary for two
terms, Chaired the Nominating Committee for several years and have been the
Texas Championship Show Chairman for fourteen years.
