ZACH’S PLACE
Special Kids Special Families
ended the month of April
with 287.30 hours of volunteer work. Of the 287.30
hours, 32.75 hours were
donated by our Board
Members.
Zach’s Place had a fun month of April. We started
the month off with Fun Night. Antonio Valdez, Kristy
Weis, Jalynn Tabares, Tiauna Jones, Ryan Fulton, and
Nicholas Capella were all there to help out with our
youth. They had a fantastic time. Tyler Bosko
(pictured) was able to spend a couple of hours during
the week at Zach’s Place. Zach’s Place had another
large group of Air Force Academy Cadet’s that helped
out with painting, cleaning, and interacting with the
kiddos.
According to the Independent Sector, the average volunteer is worth $23.56 per
hour. According to this
estimate, SKSF has had the
work value of roughly
$6,768.79 donated by our
volunteers alone during the
month of April.
The School of the Deaf and Blind also visited Zach’s
Place this month. They learned about respite care
and all that Zach’s Place does for children with disabilities and their families. The group worked on art
crafts with the youth as well as organized an art closet.
Year to date, Special Kids
Special Families has a total
of 227 volunteers and
1887.75 volunteer hours
worked. Of the 1887.75
hours, 135.75 hours were
contributed from the Board
Members. According to this

ZACH’S PLACE
Ryan Fulton headed up a project to disassemble a shed that was donated to
Zach’s Place. The shed will be used to
store bicycles and other outside toys
that need protection from our Colorado
weather.
Joyce Morgan’s granddaughter’s Girl Scout troop decided
that as part of their cookie sales they would ask people to
donate money for cookies to give to a nonprofit . The Girl
Scouts chose to donate the cookies to Zach’s Place. It was
such a wonderful gesture! After the cookies were donated,
the Girl Scout’s spent time playing soccer with the
volunteers who were attending Fun Night and our youth.
Some of the children who are in the process of
getting confirmed at St. Paul’s Catholic Church
volunteered at Zach’s Place. Volunteering is part
of the process before confirmation. Zach’s Place
also had the pleasure of having Estrellas Latinas De
San Gabriel! The Spanish Dancers who attend St.
Gabriel’s Catholic Church spend most of their Saturday’s traveling around performing for different
organizations. It was a fun-filled Saturday at Zach’s
Place and the kiddos really enjoyed their day!

JOEY’S PLACE
Joey’s Place has also had a
lot of volunteer activity for
the month of April. John
Koiter Piano Services donated his time to tune the
two pianos at Adult Services. Both the piano in the
ICAN meet and greet room
and the piano in Joey’s Place
are now able to be used!
Hailey, our wonderful staff
member at Joey’s Place has
been playing the piano and
singing with the clients. The
clients participate as Hailey
takes the time to teach
them chords. The clients
were dancing, singing, and
engaged. It was a great time
for all.
SunWater Spa has continued teaching the clients
yoga once a week.
Harrison D2 has also been
visiting Joey’s Place once a

week to interact with our

once a week to read to the
clients. Julie Hudak has
begun working on therapeutic horticulture. Soon
the old soil will be dug out
and new soil placed in the
bins. King Soopers has offered a gift card to buy
flowers for planting. Lisa
Reusch volunteered this
month at Joey’s Place, helping the clients with activities. Debbie Lane has taken
over teaching the clients
computer skills since Diane
Dumas has been hired on as
a new staff member.

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT…
RACHEL BLOOMFIELD
My name is Rachel. I'm a senior at Palmer Ridge High school planning
to go to Brigham Young University in Provo this fall. I'm going to study
special needs education with the hopes of becoming a Speech Therapist someday. Outside of school I like to dance and read. I love volunteering at Zach's place because of the wonderful kids I get to meet
and interact with. It's so much fun and I love it a lot!
