EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER OF ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY VOLUME 8, ISSUE 12 A Motown Christmas Bash! By Leilani Mariano DECEMBER 2012 one atlas. Na Leo O’ Atlas Does anyone remember what the theme of the party was? It usually starts off with Christmas…this year, we went from Motown which turned into Disco, then anything 70’s and what we finally ended up with was: 1132 Bishop Street Hope Solo – which I still don’t get; Suite 1600 Hippy Reindeer with a fro; Honolulu, HI 96813 808-533-3222 Bling Bling Santa; Shaka, Shaka, Shaka Kahn and Inside this issue: Christmas Parties 1-3 Top 5 Agents 4 Congrats to Maurice 4 & Wayne Mahalo to Gwen Chang 4 Kudos to AOAO 4 Community Services 5 Toastmasters 6 Newest CPCU— Malia Ark 6 Grandma Sha 6 Submit your articles, pictures or suggestions to: Sandy Tsukada [email protected] The DRESS…you know, the dress from the picture that Vince sent with the email aka the lovely Chenise! Emcee Vince Miyoi Rocks the House! Hawaii Prince Hotel was blessed with our presence this year. They did such a great job on the food (we got at bargain), to make up their loss they decided an inflation at the bar was reasonable. Win-win overall! A Touch of Gold made all the women and Lance scream & shout, Diana Ross’ hair fall off, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer find his way back to the 70’s and Shaka Kahn get fresh! A Touch of Gold was awesome, but the star of our show was Hope Solo aka Lance! Shim had rhythm, style, grace and most of all no shame! What do you remember most about this year’s holiday party? The work spouses dating game? Vince’s comedic MC action or maybe just his outfit? Corina and Ayson’s dance off? For me….the 40,000 Hawaiian Miles Grand Prize that went to Atlas Kauai’s very own Darnell Aquino. She writes: “Thank you Atlas Insurance for the grand prize. This year is our 25th wedding anniversary, so my husband said we can use it to fly and go on our cruise. When we got married 25 years ago, we had a cruise scheduled for our honeymoon but at the same time we had the opportunity to buy our home so we gave up the cruise. I am so excited to finally get my cruise.” EMPLOYEE NEW SLETTER OF ATLAS IN SURANCE AGENCY PAGE 2 Staff and agents arrived at the Hawaii Prince ready to have some fun! Emcee Vince started the program with his assistant Richard “Wonder” then we enjoyed a lion dance to bring good luck in 2013! Next up was the Office Spouse Trivia Game! Sharon & Richard tied Lance & Matt with answering just ONE question correctly! A Touch of Gold dazzled us with a spectacular performance, allowing Atlas to sing & dance with them! Then the finale….the lovely Chenise wowed us with her Last Dance solo that got the crowd on their feet with a standing ovation! PAGE 3 EMPLOYEE NEW SLETTER OF ATLAS IN SURANCE AGENCY Christmas in Kona, Maui & Hilo Kona —by Elaine Panlilio The Kona office had a scrumptious feast at the ocean front Huggo’s On The Rocks restaurant. It was really Maikai’i at our Atlas (Christmas) Luau!” We also came back to our office for some refreshments and to decorate our Christmas Tree. Good luck to all Agents for the 3rd and final session running now through February 28th. Mahalo to Gwen Chang! By Peter Junker Sharon, I’m sending this to you to let you know how much I appreciated Gwen Chang helping me out on “Black Friday”. I came in for a couple of hours and noticed an email from Indich Collection asking for their auto ID cards since their coverage expired on 11/21 (the day before Thanksgiving). Gwen saw me wandering around and asked what I needed and graciously offered to assist. There truly is a spirit of “One Atlas” here and I just love it! Kudos to our AOAO Team! By Steven Fukumitsu & Randy Millare Randy and I have enjoyed the services of the AOAO unit for the years we have been with Atlas. We have continued to grow & approach the condominium industry with much confidence because of this unit. We know the services of Ron Tsukamaki and Mike Ayson have paved the way with tremendous success. However, it always has the need of the entire team to make things happen. We cannot speak highly enough of the efforts that Joshua German & Phoebe Kekauoha have provided to us and our clients. Their level of service enables us to compete in this industry. By having Joshua and Phoebe help us service our clients, we have been able to more aggressively approach new condo business and the staff in Kona is of course relieved of the work that these individuals are so better equipped and have exceeded service satisfaction. It is not very often that Randy and I take the time & opportunity to speak up regarding a very important aspect of what Atlas has done so well in enhancing what we as independent agents are trying to achieve in growth for all of us. These individuals truly represent the team/sales environment that allows us to grow in a positive and successful way. Please let us know if you want any more specifics with the new business and high retention we have achieved with this condominium unit. This unit is a great asset. Thank you. EMPLOYEE NEW SLETTER OF ATLAS IN SURANCE AGENCY PAGE 5 The Atlas Team Out in the Community Spreading Holiday Cheer! By Carol Davis CCG chose Lanakila Pacific’s Kupuna Wellness Center as our 4th quarter community service project. This is a place for seniors to gather and be served a hot, nutritionally balanced meal. The program provides an opportunity for them to socialize with peers and participate in exercise, recreational and educational activities. Team Atlas strolled in, 26-strong with Santa (Myles), Tutu (Lance) and one ukulele (Phil Ogata of APIC) to sing Christmas Carols to a crowd of spirited Kupuna at the Kuhio Park Terrace on December 10th. The Kupuna showed their holiday spirit throughout our visit and warmed our hearts with their smiles as they sang along. When we were done with our caroling, the Kupuna asked if they could sing to us….their gift of holiday cheer sounded better than ours! Next year we’ll let them provide the entertainment for us to enjoy! Atlas & Island Sponsor the IHS Fundraiser Atlas and Island teamed up as the presenting sponsors of the Homeward Bound 5k Run/Walk in Manoa on December 16th to benefit our mutual client, The Institute for Human Services (IHS). Their mission is to prevent and end homelessness in Hawaii. Thanks to all who participated! There were 350 registered participants this year; a record high! Thanks to our Atlas Tri-Athlete, Sandy Ferreira for spearheading this sponsorship! EMPLOYEE NEW SLETTER OF ATLAS IN SURANCE AGENCY PAGE 6 Congratulations to Sharilyn Tanaka By Melanie Nordgran, President of Atlas Olelo Hui Atlas Olelo Hui Toastmasters would like to recognize Sharilyn Tanaka who completed her Toastmaster Competent Communicator award in November! This award is achieved by completing the 10 speech projects in the Toastmasters Competent Communicator manual. Each speech is meant to help the speaker improve in certain areas such as speech organization, making a point, body language, word choice, research, visual aids, persuasion and inspiring. Sharilyn has worked diligently to complete this award and has made significant strides in her public speaking skills. She has done a fantastic job of incorporating all of the Toastmaster tips and tricks into her speeches, and is able to confidently deliver an engaging and persuasive presentation. Our club has enjoyed watching her progress (and learning about all things Disney!). Sharilyn has also shared that her polished speaking skills she has developed at Toastmasters were put to use at a recent Networking event. While other presenters umm’ed and ahh’ed their way through a short introduction, she was able to give a succinct, impromptu speech and walk away with referrals. Now that’s results! Sharilyn has been an important member of our club since it started and is now mentoring new Toastmaster members to help them become better speakers. We appreciate all of her contributions, and look forward to her continued progress as she moves into the Advanced Communicator series. Our Newest CPCU—Malia Ark By Carol Davis We are extremely proud and not surprised by the speed and accuracy of Malia Ark in attaining the much coveted CPCU designation within a year from start to finish! The CPCU designation program requires the successful completion of 8 courses/exams comprising of subject matters ranging from insurance operations, finance and accounting, to property and casualty insurance coverages. We are looking forward to seeing Malia practice her newly honed skills in handling her accounts and working with her teammates! Congratulations, Grandma Sha! Congratulations to Sheryl “Sha” Kawamura from the Hilo branch office! Her first grandchild arrived early in time for Christmas (smart lil guy!) on December 22, 2012 at 10:45 pm weighing in at 5 lb., 14 oz and 18.5 inches long. Please welcome Noah Koichi Kawamura Cabalar to the Atlas Family!
