Welcome to Hindeloopen
Welcome to Hindeloopen l a u n n a f e h k i N / ATLAS 1 1 0 2 p o wo r k sh Programme • Presentations by (almost) all of us • 20 minutes each - some time for discussions • Hands-on tutorial on statistical issue • Social program • Diner, drinks and skutjes • Drinks in cafe on ATLAS Practical info • Wifi • stadsboerderij (meeting room) • brabander (cafe) • password: “gastvrij” • Breakfast between 07:30-09:00 in the morning (restaurant) • Sailing: try to start a little earlier, just after lunch • Carpooling - the boats are 10 minutes away (follow the black Opel Frontera :-) ) Practicalities • You found it all... Today Thursday Friday agenda ATLAS/D0 FOM programme • Objectives • een 1997-‐2015 To find the Higgs particle(s) responsible for the generation of particle mass. Search for physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular supersymmetry. To develop and construct a detector for those (and other) objectives. • • • Running betw During the period 2000‑2011 a subgroup will participate in the D0 experiment at Tevatron. We follow two threads: • • measurement of muon production as a sign for the Higgs boson; accurate analysis of final states involving production of leptons, jets, and missing energy. These are typical for top quark production and new physics beyond the Standard Model • Partners in this large programme are the UvA and RU 8 Nikhef in D∅ • Currently three authors on D∅ papers • One PhD stud ent • Activity is closing down • After some years with a lot of activity in top-‐quarks and SM Higgs. • In-‐kind contribution: production of MC samples • Excellent preparation for LHC physics • D∅ highlights: • Higgs search with exclusion of SM Higgs around 160 GeV • D∅ lowlight: • Close Tevatron on October 1st, after that a few more years to finish the analyses. 9 Now that LHC is finally running! • A wealth of physics in 2010 and this year • Looking forward to >1 O-‐1 by end of 2011 • and much more during the years to come Priorities of the ATLAS programme: 1. Clarify the EW symmetry breaking sector 2. Search for new physics at the TeV scale 3.
