VISION SESSION
ONE VISION – ONE STATE
Attendees will be active participants in the development of a vision for addressing
Nebraska’s reliance on property taxes for school funding. The foundation of the Vision
Session will be open, round table discussion. This ground level discussion of what
we will be asking of our legislators / lawmakers is a unique opportunity where you will
represent your district and community.
TRAINING SESSIONS
MONEY - MONEY - MONEY | District budgets require year-round attention. Attendees
will learn about the budget process and how to utilize the annual Board / Superintendent
planning calendar, including negotiations timelines. An explanation of funds and how to
properly prepare for replacement of items through depreciation or building funds will also
be covered. Presenter - Carl Dietz
ENGAGING EVERY BOARD MEMBER | A new board member must engage in learning
to establish a clear understanding of the proper governance roles and responsibilities of the
board. The experienced board member must engage in learning to grow their knowledge
of how to overcome the challenges board members encounter when serving education.
This session will engage the new and experienced board members and administrators
in professional development to discuss proper board governance vs. micro managing
administration. Presenter - Marcia Herring
EDUCATED BOARDS + COLLABORATIVE SUPERINTENDENTS = SUCCESS | Participants
will identify the key characteristics to a positive board/superintendent relationship. This
will lead to a discussion of district leadership accountability including the guidelines of
an effective superintendent evaluation and the board’s responsibility to complete a board
self-assessment. The session will wrap up with areas of consideration when facing a
superintendent vacancy. Presenter - Shari Becker
WHAT’S REQUIRED OF SCHOOLS? | The only thing constant is
change. New policy regulations required by the federal government
and new safety standards required by the state of Nebraska will
be shared in this session. Presenters - Jim Luebbe & Megan Boldt
