Background
DreamWorks Animation has produced some of the most
successful animated films of the past decade including
Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. Almost all of its feature films
have grossed over $100 million worldwide. This put a lot of
pressure on its latest release, Megamind. The superhero
adventure was poised to become the next DreamWorks hit.
To increase anticipation and drive audiences to the theaters
for this new release, DreamWorks needed an exciting
Facebook campaign that would keep people talking up until
the premiere.

The Stuzo Solution
Sustaining buzz for a movie premiere can be difficult, but
Stuzo was up to the mega-sized challenge. Stuzo conceived, designed, and developed an interactive spin-to-win
game featuring a slot machine with pictures of Megamind
characters. Players activated the game by pulling a handle. If they got three characters in a row, they were awarded with instant Megamind prizes including comic books and
movie tickets. An automatic email notified them of their
prize and provided instructions to verify their information.
Then, an electronic code was sent for movie tickets or their
information was compiled into a spreadsheet for physical
prizes. An internal newsfeed displayed recent winners and their prizes. Instant winners would also be automatically entered to win four grand prizes including a private screening. To encourage sustained recurring engagement, players were
allowed three spins each day.

Campaign Results
The Megamind Spin to Win slot machine was spun 215,000 times
by 24,000 people over just two weeks. 715 instant prizes were
awarded including 100 comic books, 100 movie posters, 500 tickets,
10 storybooks, and 5 iStoryTime apps. Additionally, four grand
prizes were awarded including a private screening party, HP laptop,
Xbox 360 console, and a Nintendo DS. Giving players three spins
a day led to multiple daily returns to the game. With an average
of nine spins per user, players came back over the course of three
days for their chances to win. When they were not busy spinning
and winning, players were sharing and inviting their friends. Over
2,700 shared, while 4,000 sent invitations. Both the game and the
premiere of the movie helped to amplify the Megamind fan base
from 45,000 to 501,000.
