Insuring your Hired in Plant
Many clients will enter into hiring agreements for plant hire and will be required to accept various
responsibilities in relation to the plant as well as financial loss to the hire company. Many hire
companies routinely contract based on CPA conditions as standard. Over recent years other hire
contracts are becoming common and some of these impose far more onerous terms on the hirer.
The Maven Hired in Plant policy provides for legal liability of the hirer to the hire company so
any loss or damage to the plant and continuing hire charges are covered up to the policy limits.
Unlike many other policies, the Maven policy has no restriction of cover to CPA conditions.
When a client had to claim for a total loss of an excavator, Maven settled for £85,000 as the
client’s hire contract legally required them to replace with a new machine. Without this
important benefit the client could have been liable for any shortfall between the
insurance policy settlement and the total cost of replacement which could have
been as much as £30,000.
