Quotations for USA Flag Day
George Washington ~ We take the stars from heaven,
the red from our mother country, separating it by white
stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her,
and the white stripes shall go down to posterity, representing our liberty.
Woodrow Wilson ~ The flag of the United States has not
been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of
independence and in bills of rights. It has been created
by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life. It is the embodiment, not of sentiment, but of a history.
Henry Ward Beecher ~ Our flag means all that our fathers meant in the Revolutionary
War. It means all that the Declaration of Independence meant. It mean justice. It mean
liberty. It means happiness...Every color means liberty, Every thread means liberty. Every
star and stripe means liberty.
Arthur Macy, The Flag ~ Cheers for the sailors that fought on the wave for it, Cheers for
the soldiers that always were brave for it, Tears for the men that went down to the grave
for it, Here comes the flag!
George M. Cohan ~ You’re a grand old flag, You’re a high flying flag And forever in peace
my you wave. You’re the emblem of the land I love. The home of the free and the brave.
Henry Cuyler Bunner ~ Off with your hat, as the flag goes by! And let the heart have its
say; you’re man enough for a tear in your eye that you will not wipe away.
Francis Scott Key, The Star Spangled Banner ~ Oh! Say does that star-spangled banner
yet wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Lessons I Learned from My Dad - by Ann Shorb
UNITED STATES MAP
A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted
to know what the United States looked like.
Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine
on which was printed the map of the country.
Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby
and said, "Go into the other room and see if you
can put this together. This will show you our
whole country today."
After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed
him the map, correctly fitted and taped together.
The father was surprised and asked how she had
finished so quickly. "Oh," she said, "on the other
side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got
all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our
country just came together."
A nurse on the pediatric ward, before listening to the little ones chests, would plug
the stethoscope into their ears and let
them listen to their own hearts. Their
eyes would always light up with awe, but
she never got a response equal to fouryear old David's comment.
Gently she tucked the stethoscope
into his ears and placed the disk over his
heart. "Listen." she said. "What do you
suppose that is?
He drew his eyebrows together in
a puzzled line and looked up as if lost in
the mystery of the strange tap - tap tapping deep in his chest.
Then his face broke out in a
wondrous grin and he asked,
"Is that Jesus knocking?"
Hebrews 11:4b . . . He being dead yet speaketh.
My dad was a remarkable man. Born and raised in poverty in the hills of Tennessee during
the early 1900’s, his spirit of adventure and his commitment to work hard took him a long
way. Although he only had a fourth grade education, he taught me some of life’s greatest
lessons.
In my teenage years he showed me how to check the oil in our 1968 Mustang (Man, do I wish
I still had that car!), how to change a tire, and even how to jumpstart the other car that often
refused to budge on it own. I learned how to paint, wallpaper and lay tile from a man who
could figure out how to do just about anything.
But he taught me more than just how to do things as he modeled patience, compassion and
unconditional love. His sense of humor kept us laughing even in the hard times, and the stories he would tell from his youth got bigger and better every time he told them!
The lessons I remember most from dad were these:
Always keep your promises
Work hard and be proud of what you do.
A good imagination is one of life’s greatest gifts. Use it often and wisely.
When faced with a problem, don’t say, “It can’t be done.” Get busy and figure out a way
to do it!
Don’t give up! You’ll succeed if you just keep trying.
You don’t have to preach to teach people about the love of God.
Just a few days ago I stood staring at his gravestone. It seems impossible that he’s
been gone 11 year, because he is still so very much a part of my life. My brother and I
were truly blessed. We will always be grateful that we had a father who cared, who was
sensitive to our needs, and who left us with lessons to guide us through life. Dads,
what will your kids think when they stand looking at your gravestone?

2014 Won By One Campaign
Each of us are responsible to tell someone else about Jesus. We are an army of one in Gods army. John 15: 16 &
17. “You did not choose me but I choose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit. Fruit that will last. Then the
Father will give whatever you ask in my name. This is my
command Love each other.” Our goal is for each one in the
church to win at least one person to Christ. Invite someone
to Sunday School and Church. If everyone invited at least
one person we would have a church full. This is the mission
of the church. Win them one by one and bring them one by
one. Jesus died for you. What can you do for Him?

In trying to keep the list of "Other Concerns" updated, you will notice a number following the names.
This number indicates the month the name was included on the prayer list.
The name will remain on the list for 3 months (unless you let me know it needs to be removed.)
If I have not been updated - then the name will be removed after the 3 months.
Also please notice the heading "The Elderly and Those Shut In" I have added "Long-Term Illness" to this list. Please let me
know if a name should be moved from any of the lists. This change is just in an effort to try to keep the list updated. Thanks!
Please remember to pray for God's guidance in finding the Senior Pastor God has planned for our church.
