“Savage” schooling!
Welcome
Every term here at Wellington is
exciting, but there is never a more
exciting term than this one! The
flurry of new faces streaming into
school in September already
seems a distant memory - and in
many ways this is just as it
should be.
Our new children soon settled
into our Wellington Family and
the routine of a new school
became second nature to them
all very quickly. We were so
delighted to have them all join
us and we thank everyone for
making their transition to
Wellington so seamless.
In the very first full week of term Year
3 began their Victorian focus with a
visit to Allerford School. Experiencing
Victorian style lessons and spending
time in the Victorian museum was
fascinating for both adults and children
alike – and I don’t think any
of us will forget Mr Savage
dressed in his best!

Going back to our roots
That same week Year 6 visited the
Magdalen Project at Chard. With so
many new faces in the year group, a
team building session at the start of
term was just the ticket. Shelter building,
songs around the campfire and swinging
through the low ropes were just some of
the exercises that challenged both children and staff! It was a fabulous day.
A warm welcome to
our ‘Little Wellies’
Two weeks into term saw the launch of our
new toddler group Little Wellies which has been
a splashing success! A lovely, relaxed toddler
session every Thursday morning during term time, Little Wellies has brought
new families to our school, as well as current families with younger siblings who
enjoy a weekly get together over a lovely coffee and cake!
After what turned out to be a
real summer, with actual
sunshine and so many days
spent at our wonderful local
beaches, we embraced the
new academic year feeling
refreshed and revived. We
had much to look forward to
during the autumn term, and
this newsletter is really only
a snapshot of what happens
in our busy school.
Poetry on parade
Year 5’s visit to Stover Park as part of their poetry focus
was truly inspirational. The Ted Hughes trail was
established here because of Ted’s close links with the area.
His wonderful poems were listened to as the children
followed the trail. The highlight of the day was the children
reciting their own poetry at the end of the day.
Year 5 put on a spectacular fashion show in
front of a packed audience of family and
friends. The show included a myriad of
clothing collections, all put together with
music and a great deal of panache! The
children all took turns on the catwalk as
well as announcing their outfits in
both English and French. The
punk collection was amazing –
and now we even know the
French for dog collar!

First timers
Our new nursery children enjoyed
their first school outings to both
Vivary Park and the orchards at
Sheppys Cider. These early visits
are always lovely to do, not
least because it is exciting to
all get onto the school bus!
z For all good gifts
Harvest Festival celebrations in our beautiful
school chapel are always a joy, whilst our
children in Early Years have their own
celebrations here in the Junior School Hall. Thank you to
everyone for their most generous donations which were gratefully
received by The Taunton Association for the Homeless. These were delivered
by Mr Gibson along with our Head Boy and Head Girl, Tom and Grace.

The Autumn concert was
wonderful to witness. The
children performed beautifully
on piano, violin, trombone and
cello to name but a few.
A staggering array of talent
for such young children.
What an inspiring
evening.

Conkertastic
October brought
fierce competition at the annual
Conker Championships. Hard
fought battles
continued
through the
pouring rain, but no spirits were
dampened nor competitive
natures contained! Some
matches went to sudden
death as the quality of both
conkers and competitors was
outstanding, and eventually
Will was crowned the winner!

In with the new...
So as we say goodbye to 2013 we
are thankful for all we have enjoyed this
first academic term. In January we
look forward to even more new
faces joining our school and hope
that they too will settle straight
into the Wellington family.

children. The Early Years recreated the
story of Christmas, complete with all the
characters you would be expect, plus one
or two extra innkeepers! They delivered
their lines with incredible confidence and
the angels left us all wanting to dance!
The Infants gave us the story through the eyes of Ralph the Reindeer. There were cheeky elves,
beautiful angels and also some dancing gummy bears..! What a treat!
