SUBJECT: MERCURYCONTENTINALBACORETUNA ExtensivelyTestingourTuna WildPlanethasextensivelytestedthepoleandlinecaughtalbacoretunaitusesinits WildAlbacoreTunaproduct.Throughour14yearhistory,wehaveperformedover400 mercurytests.Theconclusionwehavereachedisthattheyounger,migratoryalbacore, whichare3-5yearsold,thatarecaughtatthesurfacewithpoleandlineandtrolling methodsaremuchlowerinmercurythantheolder,deep-dwellingalbacore.Those albacore,whichare6-12yearsold,arecaughtbylong-lines.Thispoleandlinealbacore low-mercuryconclusionisthird-partycorroboratedbytheacademicstudydonebythe OregonStateUniversity(OSU)*. NoNeedtoTestEachIndividualTuna Itisnotnecessaryorhelpfultotesteveryfish,astherangeofvarianceisverylow betweentheseyoungpoleandlinecaughtalbacore.ThedataintheWildPlanettests andtheOSUstudyshowarangeof0.1-0.4ppmand0.03-0.3ppmrespectively.Based uponourmercurytesting,thetunawesourcecontainanaverageof0.22ppm.Thisis fourtimeslowerthantheFDAallowablestandardof1.0ppm.TheFDAtestsshowa mercurycontentrangeofcannedalbacoretunaintheU.S.markettobe<0.1-0.85ppm. Forreference,WildPlanetsent100cansfortestingbythirdpartyAMTESTwhichgave anaverageof0.2197ppmforAlbacore.
