Happy New Year! 2015 promises to be an
exciting year at Binks Forest Elementary! I'd
like to thank some of our amazing parents for
their outstanding support in 2014. Many
thanks go out to Chris Blinston, Paul Disalvo,
and Gabriel Goldstein for the amazing job
they did with the Binks Forest float for the
Wellington Holiday Parade. Our float was
sensational!
Thanks also go out to our families for their
generosity in donating to the holiday toy
drive. Your holiday spirit shone through! I'd
also like to thank the volunteers who
dedicated their time to gathering, sorting,
and delivering the toys. The Village of
Wellington was thrilled to receive them, and
they were donated to needy families right
here in our hometown.
Finally, I'd like to recognize the 16 talented
students who created entries for our annual
Reflections art program. We had some
simply amazing entries, and I wish them
great success as they move on to the county
level.

Guidance & Counseling: This part of the year
will bring about some new topics in Guidance
for our older students. Third Graders will be
starting Student Success Skills in preparation
for FSA which includes coping with stress, goal
setting and test anxiety. Fourth graders will
also be participating in the Student Success
Skills program and focusing on learning
strategies and coping with change. Fifth
graders have been learning about bullying for
a few weeks and will now be starting a 5-week
Holocaust unit in Guidance which culminates in
the spring with a visit from a Holocaust
survivor. Girl Talk” will also be starting this
month for all the 5th grade girls, which
addresses some the social “girl issues” and
middle school transition. New divorce groups
will be starting this month so you can still
contact me if you want your child to participate.
Career Week: It was a blast!!! Thank you to all
the parents and community members who took
the time to come in and speak about your
careers. We had quite a diversity of careers
this year including engineers,
equestrian
careers, firefighters, police, physicians,
lawyers, an FBI agent, a cheerleader, a
chemist, an animal rescue worker, an MLB
Catcher and many more. The entire school will
participate in Vehicle Day on January 12th
which is always quite an event. We are still
looking to recruit some more career-related
vehicles. Career Week pictures will be
displayed on a bulletin board in February in
the main hallway and some online too. If you
are interested in speaking next year, feel free
to email me now and I will put you on an email
list and contact you next year.
