November 2013
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It’s hard to believe that it’s November already. The older I get the faster the time flies. Huge thanks are in order for our October events. First
of all, many thanks to all parents, students, faculty and staff for their participation in the “Spike Out Cancer” volleyball game for the benefit of
the DelVecchio Family. Special thanks to Eric Lybrand and Coach Verhayden for all of their effort in planning this wonderful event.
In conjunction with Catholic Central High School, Bishop Maginn High School and Saratoga Catholic Central High School we held our 2nd
annual Golden Gallop Walk for Education. Thank you to all, for your generous contribution. We raised almost $17,000 of our $20,000 goal.
All proceeds of the Golden Gallop are slated for student programs. If there is anyone who would still like to help us meet our goal, your contribution would be appreciated.
That evening, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons held its Legacy Gala during which we inducted, Mrs. Kathleen Duff, Mr. Richard Rossetti and Bishop Howard Hubbard into our Hall of Fame. It was truly a gala celebration of the mission and ministry of ND-BG and of those who have given
of themselves so selflessly.
Finally at a time when news of schools is filled with negativity, I’d like to share a story. Last night I was present at the Varsity Girls Volleyball
Game against Albany at Troy High School. It was certainly an exciting competition. We emerged Big 10 champs which in and of itself was exhilarating. As the game progressed, a group of girls clad in purple entered. At first we weren’t aware of who they were. They moved from side
to side with our team and cheered the girls on. Finally, we saw the lettering which said CCHS. Yes, the Catholic High Girl’s volleyball team
came to cheer us on to victory.
Isn’t that what we’re all about?
Sincerely,
Ninette F. Kondratowicz

Host family needed: I am a local coordinator with CIEE, a
foreign exchange program and I am trying to find a permanent host family for Paula Gonzales, she is an exchange
student from Spain who is a student currently in ND-BG.
She enjoys track, playing basketball, soccer, swimming,
horseback riding, skiing . She is Catholic and attends services with her welcome family she has now. She is currently on the track team, the family that hosts her MUST be
able to transport her or live in a school district that provides
after school transportation (Schenectady, Guilderland and
North & South Colonie)
She is staying with a family who is unable to host for the
full year but they will give a reference for her if needed. I
live in Greenwich and will be meeting and interviewing the
family and will be in contact with the family monthly so they
don't have to feel "alone" in the process. PLEASE visit our
website , www.ciee.org/highschool and feel free to contact
me with any questions about hosting . My phone number is
518-812-5855 (Julie Smith).
Help us spread the word about ND-BG. Do you know
any parents that are looking for a change? Let us know
how to get in touch with them.

Dr. O’Brien Receives 2013 Fellow Award!
Anything Goes under production at NDBG
Rehearsals for the Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons
musical for the 2013 season are well underway. This
year the Fall Drama Club, through formal agreement
with Tams-Witmark, which owns the rights to the show,
will be presenting Anything Goes. Anything Goes is
a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Cole Porter.
The original book was a collaborative effort by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse. The 1962 production won
the New York Outer Circle Critics Award for Best Revival. ND-BG produced this chestnut in 1996, and is
happy to bring it back to the stage in our school.
Billy Crocker, a young Wall Street broker, has
fallen in love with a beautiful girl he met in a taxi. His
boss, Elisha J. Whitney, is preparing to make a business deal and is going to travel to London aboard the
S.S. "American". Evangelist turned nightclub singer
Reno Sweeney will be traveling with her “angels”
aboard the same ship. Billy learns that his love, Hope
Harcourt escorted by her mother, Mrs. Harcourt, is on
her way to England with her fiancé Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, a handsome but stuffy and hapless British nobleman. Billy stows away on the ship in hopes of winning
Hope's heart. "Moonface" Martin, a secondrate gangster labeled "Public Enemy 13", who has disguised himself as a missionary, along with his friend
Bonnie, has boarded the ship as well. Moonface and
Bonnie mistakenly leave behind their leader, "Snake
Eyes" Johnson, Public Enemy 1. the comedy of mistaken identity and love mix-ups ensues. (Wikipedia)
Our cast of 50 strong is delighting in the music
and comedy of Anything Goes. The musical features
some excellent tap dancing, and 17 of our students are
hoofing it on the NDBG stage in tribute to such Cole
Porter songs as “Take me Back to Manhattan” and the
title song “Anything Goes”.
A HUGE CONGRATS goes out to Dr. O’Brien!! While
we were celebrating our Pep Rally and playing volleyball
on Friday October 18th, Dr. O’Brien was being awarded
the 2013 Fellow Award by NYSEC! An amazing honor
and the HIGH honor in the organization! See attachments
regarding his award!

Sixth graders expressed a desire
for a cooking
club. Mrs. McGuinness will be the moderator. Meetings
and activities will begin in November , on Wednesdays, from
3:00 to 4:30. If all sixth graders join (24), then there will be
two groups meeting alternatively. Participants need to be up
to date in their courses and not failing any subjects. THIS IS
FOR SIXTH GRADERS ONLY!!! We will meet in the Brothers former residence. Each student is asked to contribute $5
to purchase ingredients. Any cookware or baking utensils that you no longer need would be greatly appreciated. We need everything!
Congratulations to the Girls’ Varsity CrossCountry team on their 4th straight Big 10 title.
They have won 25 straight Big 10 dual
meets. Seniors Talya Williams, Claire Sise, Lexi
Vendetti, Angelique Cain, Laura Reilly, and
Teagan DeCusatis have gone through their high
school career without losing a Big 10 meet. Individually, Talya Williams has gone undefeated in
the Big 10 throughout her high school career. This is an impressive accomplishment and
has set the standard high for future Lady Knights
to come.
Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Volley-
Legacy Gala
On October 11, 2013 Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons
School celebrated our first Legacy Gala. The Gala honored and inducted three amazing individuals into the NDBG Hall of Fame: Most Reverend Howard Hubbard, Richard Rosetti ’82 and Kathleen Duff. The
evening was a great success and raised
over $10,000! ALL proceeds from this
event benefit ND-BG Scholarships!
Thank you to everyone who participated
in this wonderful evening!
ball team who defeated Albany High last
night to become the 2013 Big 10 Champions. It is the first Big 10 Volleyball Championship in school history! The teams were
tied for first place with identical 11-1 records and each team won against the other
on their home court. It was a spectacular
game, going back and forth ending the only
way a championship game should be
played, in a game five victory 25-20. Congrats to the Lady Knights on an awesome
and Cinderella Big 10 season.
