Coker Tire Ironstead Building The Ironstead building was an old
HK Coker Tire Ironstead Building The Ironstead building was an old storage facility which later became an abandoned building in the Southside District of Chattanooga. The project was to convert this old building into four new office spaces. The project had many issues especially with the deterioration of some of the key structural members and walls. Our goals for the building were to preserve the old aesthetic of brick interiors and tall open spaces while implementing new character in the areas which needed to be replaced. We re-used brick and glass block from an area we removed for repair and infill for window openings. In addition, we added mezzanines for more lease space and this would allow the tenants to enjoy the views through some of the clearstory windows. All new storefront glass with energy efficient ratings were installed along with rigid installation under the new roof to regulate the temperature of the spaces within. New landscape was implemented to reduce the urban heat gain and set the standard in the neighborhood. With the combination of all these new items and principals, the Ironstead building will be more efficient and sustainable. www.hkarchitects.net www.hkarchitects.net
