Coker Tire Headquarters
Coker Tire is a Chattanooga based company that provides
tires and other components to classic and vintage
automobile enthusiasts and collectors. This project
included renovations to the existing headquarters building
consisting of first and second floor renovations as well as
basement, third, and fourth floor build out. The completed
work more than doubled the office and showroom space
while providing a functional and hierarchical order to the
locations of management, staff, and client. This work was
completed while the business continued to operate at full
capacity.
The major design goals for this project were to provide
natural light throughout which was achieved through the

addition of clerestory windows and borrowed light from
perimeter offices. Goals also included creating vertical
orientation and connection between the floors which was
achieved through the use of a five story monumental stair
fabricated from recycled heart pine floor framing. Other
design intents were to provide an image upgrade and
memorable entry sequence; this was accomplished through
the addition of a 100-foot “porch” which functions as a
stage during classic and vintage automobile events. While
offering a fresh look with a number of valuable upgrades,
the completed renovation project ties seamlessly into the
Coker Tire ‘brand’.
