PURPLE PRAISE
th
BOYS BASKETBALL TURN IN
PRAISEWORTHY PERFOMANCE
The 8 grade Boys’ basketball team recently played in
the YES Prep Basketball Tournament. The Pups showed
off their teamwork in easily defeating KIPP Academy in
the first game. In the semifinals they faced a tough hometeam from YES Prep North Forest. The great combination
of execution on offense and tenacious defense allowed
the Pups to win and advance to the championship game.
In the finals, the team ran into an undefeated squad from
Katy Morton Ranch Middle School. Although they played
hard, the Pups were held to a tournament low 26 points
and therefore had to settle for second place. The Pups
earned praise from those in attendance for their
determination and sportsmanship. Diedric Boone was
given one of the tournament MVP awards. Coach
Sifuentes would like to thank the whole team for giving up
their Saturday to come and compete in the tournament.
Way to go, Pups!
STILL TIME TO SEE PUP GIRLS BASKETBALL
It’s not too late to catch your Girls’ Basketball teams
th

Gayle, Alina Mooradian, Chloe Hunter, Emma Wheat,
Naomi Pryzant, Mallori Sims, Adele Lauzon, Anna

th
The 8 grade team has been equally impressive with a
nd
record of 8-2, a 2 place trophy from their Pin Oak
tournament appearance, and is the Champion of the
West Houston Middle School Tournament. Members of
th
the 8 grade team include Celia Sampaio, Hannah
Rodriquez, Lilly Salazar, Natalie Festa, Bridgette
Ramirez, Peggy Polydoros, Alex Kakadiaris, Annika
Bohmann, Ava Flatt, Allie Schachter, and Grace
Nguyen.
The final girls’ basketball home games are Wednesday

7 grade and 8 grade will be immediately after. Join us!
LANIER LINES
LAMAR FRESHMAN ROUNDUP
th
Parents, if your 8 grader may be attending Lamar, their
Freshman Roundup has been rescheduled for
Wednesday, February 5, from 6 to 7:30pm. All sports
and clubs are represented, giving students a good idea of
the wide array of extra-curricular activities available.
There will also be an opportunity for 8th graders to talk to
Lamar students currently involved in those sports or clubs
and ask lots of questions. Some sports will have tryout
information available or will collect emails so they can
keep interested students posted on upcoming tryouts, etc.
Parking is available in the main lot, just west of the
school. Don’t miss it!
PUPS GO TO FLORIDA
Choir Instructor Kim Tobola and Orchestra Instructor
Aleta Cole along with a dozen parent chaperones brought
100 Purple Pups to Florida! After attending music
workshops and performing in Disney, the Pups spent
some quality time inspecting the rides at Disney and other
nearby theme parks. They had a front page photo and full
page spread on page 15 of the Village News!
Below are some great photos by Lanier Mom Qingling
Zhang.
TENNIS, ANYONE?
th
The Lanier Tennis Team will be holding tryouts for 7
th
th
and 8 grade boys and girls. Tryouts are Feb. 13 for
th
boys and Feb. 18 for girls, weather permitting. We will
drop off and load our bags and rackets and then walk to
Lamar HS. Tryouts and practices will be from 4:00 to
5:30. This year we already have matches scheduled
against 5 different private schools and are looking to build
a very competitive team. If you are interested in playing
for us, come by Rm. 141 and pick up a permission slip.
No physicals are required as we are not a UIL team sport.
