50 years ago, the Cherokee Business Community led the charge with a new event
in Cherokee. A Free Picnic lunch was served in Wescott Park , a huge parade
traveled down Main Street, there were rides for the kids, and a rodeo featuring the
country’s top rodeo cowboys and performers.
Fifty Years later, the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo is still going strong, and wouldn’t be
possible without the continued support of our business community. There is still
time for you and your business to be involved in this year’s event. Decorate your
businesses to welcome our cowboy guests, enter the parade, volunteer to help at
the rodeo or simply bring your family out for the fun. We’ll see you this weekend!
The beautiful hanging flower baskets on Main Street. We could still use volunteers
to help water the baskets this summer. Look at the schedule in this newsletter and
call the Chamber with a week that will work for you.
You can help us raise money for this year’s Fireworks display by calling in your
pledge to the annual KCHE Radio Fireworks Fundraiser on Tuesday, June 14.
Our goal is to raise $4,000 to make this year’s 4th of July Fireworks Display another great one that people will be talking about.
The Annual Chamber Golf Outing is Tuesday, June 21. You have a variety of ways
that you could be involved—Enter a team, be a hole sponsor, or donate a door
prize. The money raised from this event is used to advertise promotion events like
Crazy Days and the Christmas Parade and to market our community.
Plans continue to come along for our Customer Appreciation Event and Street
Dance on Friday, July 15. We have received some feedback from businesses, but
hope more of you get involved. Page 8 of the newsletter has more information on
the event and how our business community and individuals can get involved.
Cherokee is truly your place to be this summer.

Hanging Flower Baskets
The hanging flower baskets are up
on Main Street. To keep these
flowers looking beautiful all summer
long, we need volunteers to help
water. We are asking for volunteers
to pick a week (Monday-Friday) this
summer that works for your schedule.
You could take this task on by
yourself, or involve friends or coworkers.

2016 Customer Appreciation Event
Friday, July 15
6:00 – 8:00 PM– Food, Family Fun and Prizes
8:00 PM—Midnight – Dance to “Mighty Nish”
Parking Lot on East Main Street
The Chamber of Commerce is once again showing appreciation for the community of Cherokee and the
customers that shop in and support our businesses. A FREE Street Dance is going to be held on Friday,
July 15 (this is during Crazy Days). The gates will open at 6:00 PM and everyone will be admitted free of
charge. From 6-8 PM we would like to create a family friendly, carnival type atmosphere. We would like
to invite businesses to set up small carnival type games for the kids (young and old alike) to play.
We would like to ask businesses to get involved in a number of ways, be it donating money, product or
services, or volunteering their time. When we held Hot Dog Days, many businesses appreciated the opportunity to have face time with people. We still want to give business owners and employees that opportunity, but it will be in one central location. We encourage volunteers to wear shirts, hats and nametags to
signify what business they represent while working the concession stand, standing at the gate, or helping
with games and activities.
Please take a moment to review the opportunities for involvement in this event listed below and return to
the Chamber of Commerce As Soon As Possible so we may continue with our planning. If you have any
questions, please contact Julie at the Chamber at 225-6414.
