Project description
The Troll A platform is one of the largest offshore
gas platforms in the world, and the largest object
that has ever been moved by mankind over the
surface of the earth.
In year 2005 two compressors with electrical drives
were included to maintain gas production as reservoir
pressure continuously decreases. Each compressor
has the capacity to over-pressurize the downstream
pipelines. Therefore HIPPS was required to protect the
pipeline and equipment. The objective of the HIPPS
is to monitor the gas pressure in the compressor
discharge line and shut down the compressors as
quick as possible in case of gas pressure exceeding
the trip limit.
System scope and description
The offered solution consist of:
6 safety certified pressure transmitters, Yokogawa
2 interlocking manifold blocks, Astava
2 solid state HIPPS systems, Yokogawa ProSafe-SLS
Indoor control cubicle, with integrated sequence of
events viewer.

During execution phase, the project team complied to
the Statoil quality and documentation standards, as
well as Norwegian standards like NORSOK.
