START-UP PREPERATIONS AT HAMMERFEST LNG - A FRONTIER PROJECT IN THE NORTHERN EUROPE - Arkhangelsk 14-15 Sept 2010 Thomas A. Mølmann, Simulatorinstructor Knut Larsen, Teamleader Hammerfest LNG, Statoil ASA 1 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Snøhvit – a pioneer project The first production facility for LNG in Norway and Europe The first offshore project in the Barents Sea The largest-ever industrial development in northern Norway New technology New markets New operation organisation 2 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 3 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Snøhvit facts Discovered: 1981 – 84 Water depth: 250 – 340 m Distance to shore: 140 km Gas in place (GIIP): 317 GSm3 Condensate: 34 MSm3 Owners: Statoil ASA (Operator) 33.53% Petoro AS 30.00% Total E&P Norge AS 18.40% GDF Suez Norge AS 12.00% Hess Norge AS 3.26% RWE Dea Norge AS 2.81% 4 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 5 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Initially we used other oil & gas facilities to train staff (2003) • 80 operators of whom 21 work in the Central Control Room (CCR) • The operators had various backgrounds when they were employed and therefore needed a lot of process training. • The operators were temporary based at different plants to learn about oil and gas processes such as: – LNG plants (around the world) – Statoil refinery – Statoil Offshore facilities – Statoil Gas facilities 6 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Snøhvit operator training at Melkøya (2005) • In parallel with mechanical completion and plant commissioning, the training was executed in three parts: – Systems training, including “On the Job Training” (OJT) – Simulator training – Vendor courses 7 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 On the Job Training (OJT) • Routines and procedures for normal operation • Practical part of systems training • Practical tasks in the plant • System competence test • The OJT was executed by external consultants 8 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Simulator Training Few of the Snøhvit operators had LNG experience. The dynamic simulator was used for developing process skills. • Two weeks course for all operators • Three weeks advanced course for CCR operators • The training included: – Process and control logic understanding – Normal operation – Process start-up and shut-down – Handling of unplanned situations – Emergency training The engineering simulator was and is also used for verification of process design, control strategy and safety systems 9 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Vendor courses • ABB • Linde • Siemens etc 10 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Special knowledge - important for the future Collaboration with: • EnergiCampus North • Bodø University • Hammerfest upper secondary school – Business in the High North • University of Tromsø – Geology /process 11 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 – Engineer education – Process/chemistry • Stangnes upper secondary school – Well technology Snøhvit – manpower pr. 01.09.2010 Total - 306 Statoil employees, 15,2 % female Average age 36,2 year Hammerfest 245 employees Living in North-Norway 38 employees Other parts of Norway 23 employees 8 Snøhvit-employees in Harstad is included (Geologist) 12 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09 Thanks to successful training, Zero Harm! 13 Classification: Internal 2010-09-09
