Interdisciplinary Health Professional Panel Clara Fitzgerald Director – Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging Faculty of Health Sciences Western University, London, Ontario Session One: This session will focus on raising the awareness of Restorative Care for all care settings – including LTC, Community, Home Care, Adult Day Program…., We will learn what Restorative Care is, I what care settings does it work, and is it a philosophy of care/program or both. Learn about restorative care and become aware of the possibilities and potential for implementation and how we can work together to provide engaged and enabling care for older adults. Session Two: this session will focus on the “How to”. Now that we have a better understanding of the potential of Restorative Care – let’s put it to work to ensure that we are offering engaging and outcome based programs that support the philosophy of Restorative care within all care settings in the province. Grant MacLeod - Occupational Therapist Grant MacLeod’s practice includes assessment for equipment such as wheelchairs and pressure reduction mattresses. He has been practicing in PEI for 9 years. Mary Gemmell - Physiotherapist Mary has 25 years in Home Care as well as acute care and independent referral in the provinces of Ontario, Quebec with last 11 years on PEI. Joan Coffin - Social Worker Joan has worked extensively with seniors both in the hospital and community and currently is the social worker in the emergency department at the QEH. Kirsten Mallard - Nurse Practitioner Kirsten Mallard is currently working in a collaborative practice as a Nurse Practitioner with the Provincial Geriatric/Home Care Program. Catching Our Breath Frank MacAulay Frank is a (twice) retired Social Worker. He delivers a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course in S’side and UPEI. Within the past year he has had increasing demand for teaching training to offer Mindfulness in the classroom. “We will end the day exploring awareness of our breath and how it can keep us present.”
