January 11-12, 2014
A two day Avalanche Rescue Seminar designed specifically for members of Search and Rescue
groups will be held on January 11 & 12, 2014. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Colorado
Search and Rescue Board and the Summit County Rescue Group sponsor this seminar.
The basic level will feature instructors from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center and SCRG.
The basic level is limited to 100 people. The advanced level will feature local guest speakers,
CAIC forecasters and others.
Cost: Basic & Advanced - $100/person, includes all course materials and
handouts. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. Saturday night dinner
will be provided also.

Saturday - Boreas Conference Room, La Quinta Hotel Silverthorne
Sunday - Outside all day.

8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Registration
8:30a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Introductions
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Lectures, slide shows and interactive discussion (there
will be a lunch break - participants’ responsibility)
5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Dinner and social
Basic Course - Terrain and weather, snow mechanics, avalanche dynamics,
route selection, rescue plans, methods for locating victims, problem solving,
scenarios, accident analysis
Sunday, January 12, 2014
8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Field Work - Advanced and basic will have own session.
Avalanche simulation and rescue work, 1/2 mile ski or snowshoe trip
over easy but uphill terrain (please keep in mind high altitude and cold
considerations). Bring nordic/backcountry skis and/or snowshoes, warm
clothing, food and any avalanche gear you have available (beacon, shovel,
probe). All other equipment and materials are provided.

I-70 to exit #205 (Silverthorne), head north on Highwy 9 (Blue River Parkway).
Turn right on Rainbow Drive take immediate right on Tanglewood, then next
right on Silverthorne Lane. Arrive at La Quinta.
