A Nutcracker Workshop will be held on Thursday, August 18th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Dancenter
North. This workshop is designed for students who are new to the audition process and is highly
recommended for those seriously interested in becoming a cast member. Students will be guided through a
mock audition and have an opportunity to ask questions directly to a member of the Nutcracker directing team.
This workshop coincides with a Performance Practice Discussion Circle for parents. Parents will be guided
through the logistics of Nutcracker auditions, rehearsals, performances, & everything that goes along with being
a member of the Nutcracker performing company. There is a $5 fee to attend the workshop, which then waves
the student’s audition fee. No registration is required for this workshop. Students should wear a solid-color
leotard, pink tights, and Ballet slippers.
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PACKET BEFORE AUDITIONING!
Dancenter North’s annual production of “The Magic of the Nutcracker” is a wonderful opportunity for students to take part in a quality
production that is seen by thousands of people each holiday season. Dancenter North utilizes the talents of professional dancers and
choreographers, along with our very talented student performers, to present a production that is of the highest caliber. We strive to give
our audiences our very best!
Being selected as a cast member is an honor and a privilege, but it is also a commitment and a responsibility that requires a high level of
dedication from both the performer and the performer’s parents. Before auditioning, potential cast members must consider all other
activities in which they may be involved and be willing to put their commitment to the production above and beyond any other activities
that may conflict with the rehearsal and performance requirements associated with “The Magic of the Nutcracker.” Please bear in mind
while making the decision to audition that being a cast member is not just another extracurricular activity. Dozens of people--performers,
directors, choreographers--as well as the performance itself, are negatively affected if all cast members are not demonstrating the same
level of commitment.
Once you have reviewed this entire packet and have made the decision to audition, you need the following items turned in to the
Dancenter North office by TUESDAY, AUG 23rd at 5:00pm.
1. Audition Application (page 5) fully completed with audition fee.
2. Student Performer/Parent BRAVO! Contract (page 9) initialed and signed by both cast member and parent.
3. Headshot (no larger than 2” x 2”) paper clipped to the audition application.
*Please do not submit any other pages of this audition packet other than pages 5 & 9. The remaining pages should be kept for your personal reference.
Those chosen for the cast will be notified by e-mail by August 26th, 2016
Please note: Turning in the completed forms does not guarantee acceptance as a cast member.
It only guarantees the opportunity to audition. No one will be allowed to audition without completed forms.

CAST MEMBER REQUIREMENTS
1. You must meet these required classes in your registration at Dancenter North. They are as follows:
♦ PERFORMANCE PRACTICE GROUP 1: 2 ballet technique classes per week taken at DCN, in addition to the ballet company
rehearsal class (which meets on Saturdays from 11:15-12:00).
♦ PERFORMANCE PRACTICE GROUP 2: 2 ballet technique classes, plus 1 pointe or pointe prep class, and a choice of 1 Pilates,
Modern, Lyrical or Character class per week taken at DCN, in addition to the ballet company rehearsal class (which meets on Saturdays from
1:30-2:30).
♦ PERFORMANCE PRACTICE GROUP 3: 3 ballet technique classes, at least 1 pointe class, and a choice of 1 Pilates, Modern, Lyrical,
Character or Yoga class per week taken at DCN, in addition to the ballet company rehearsal class (which meets on Saturdays from 4:00-6:00).
2. You are to maintain consistent attendance in your required classes. There may be no more than two absences from any required
technique class. Classes that are made up within a 2-week period are not counted as absences. After two absences there will be a meeting
with the director to determine if being a cast member is a good opportunity for you at this time.
3. Performance Practice classes are vitally important to a successful production, so every effort should be made to attend each and every
class. There may be no more than two absences from Performance Practice classes. Excuses from any Performance Practice class must
be made in writing, from a parent, prior to that class. Any performer missing more than two Performance Practice classes will be removed
from the cast. There will be no exceptions! Extenuating circumstances, such as injury or illness, should be discussed with the director.
4. All studio run-throughs, stage rehearsals and performances are MANDATORY and cannot be missed.
5. A non-refundable production fee of $250.00, due no later than September 10, 2016.
6. Performer’s parent(s) are required to accumulate the necessary number of BRAVO! points (50 points per cast member / 20 points per
additional family member in the cast) in support of the performers and the production. Failure to accumulate the required number of points
will result in the student not being able to audition for future productions.

The Magic of the Nutcracker
2016 BALLET CALENDAR
Casting decisions are left entirely up to the director and choreographers. Every effort is given to showcase all
of our students. To present productions of quality and interest to our audience, there will sometimes be parts
that are larger than others or some that are more appealing for one reason or another. As part of the students’
education in the performing arts and for life itself, they must learn that these decisions are made for the good of
the group as a whole. Parental support in these decisions is necessary and appreciated.
*If you are notified of your selection, you must complete your enrollment by registering for the
appropriate Ballet Company Rehearsal class by Saturday, August 27, 2016. Registration for this
rehearsal class may be done online by logging into your account at www.dancenter-north.com.

WELCOME BRAVO! PARENTS
There will be a BRAVO! parent meeting held at Dancenter North on Sunday, September 11th from 6:30 –
7:30 pm for the parents of selected cast members. This meeting is mandatory for first-time Nutcracker
parents (optional for veteran families). If you are new to “The Magic of the Nutcracker”, you will be assigned a BRAVO!
mentor who will be present at the meeting with you.
During the meeting, team leaders will explain the volunteer opportunities available in their categories. We will conclude the
meeting with a Q&A session.
BRAVO! sign up takes place online. The link for Sign Up Genius, along with an access code, will be sent via email following the
meeting on 9/11. BRAVO! jobs are first come, first served. Parents may sign up for any combination of jobs in order to fulfill their
required points. Some jobs have minimum requirements (ie. volunteering during a dress rehearsal in order to volunteer for a
performance), which will be noted in detail on Sign Up Genius.
A minimum of 50 points is required for having 1 child in the cast, with 20 points per each additional cast member, if applicable.
Please take into consideration that many families choose to exceed the required number of points, as they are aware of the
intricacies and difficulties of producing such a quality production. If you are able to do additional work in any area of need, it
would be most appreciated. As they say, “Many hands make light work!”
