The Festival of Christmas Trees – 2010 edition
The Festival of Christmas Trees – 2010 edition
The Festival of Christmas Trees
The Festival of Christmas Trees is a fundraising event
that Save the Children Romania organizes every year,
the central moment of which is a special auction of
Christmas trees, created exclusively for this occasion
by some of the most well–renowned Romanian
designers.
As one of the attractions of the social calendar of the
season, the Festival of Christmas Trees sustains the
educational programs developed by Save the
Children Romania for the benefit of disadvantaged
children.
Save the Children Educational Centers
The Educational Centers are for children who have not been
enrolled in school, for those who have outgrown the age of
attending mainstream education or have dropped out of
school in various stages, and those who are at risk of
dropping out of school due to a poor family situation.
Most of the children come from families who do not have the
economic capacity to cover the needs for school (uniforms,
school bags, stationery, books etc.) and are forced to work for
contributing to the family income.
These children have neither the time nor the family support to
learn or to do their homework, so they need help to cope with
the class level and not to drop out of school.
Save the Children - Educational Programs
Thanks to the funds collected at the 2010 edition
of the the Festival of Christmas Trees, 3,020
children and their parents benefit from
social and educational services (school
dropout prevention programs and social
integration of disadvantaged children
programs), as follows:
•
640 children benefit from The Second
Chance program;
•
1900 children attend the School after
School program;
•
480 children benefit from the Preschool
Education program.
Results of the 2010 edition
The funds collected at the 2010 edition of the
Festival of Christmas Trees came from the
pre-event sponsorship, from the auction
of the trees created by 19 designers, by the
children from Mark Twain International
School of Bucharest, the European School
of Bucharest and Save the Children
Romania and also from selling raffle
tickets at the Gala Evening and amounted
to 274,490 Euro.
Expectations 2011 - 2012
In 2010, Save the Children Romania took up the
endeavouring task of including 7953
disadvantaged children in school integration
& reintegration programs, conducted through
the 43 educational centers, which operate in
39 cities.
With the help of our sponsors, the children receive
educational support, psychological, social
and legal counselling and also, material
support for their families.
The Christmas Tree created by the children
and volunteers for the 2010 edition
The biggest amount, 25,000 Euro, was bid for
the tree imagined by children from Save
the Children, through the generosity of
Mr. Marius Ivan (10,000 Euro) and
Henkel Romania (15,000 Euro).
The tree, made up in a pyramid shape from
twisted pages of books, covered with
large colorful winged butterflies, was
created thinking about the stories that
make childhood a magical realm.
The tree remained, according to the tradition,
at Save the Children headquarters.

The Evening Gala – December 9, 2010
The House of Parliament
The Evening Gala was, as every year, a high-class event,
when the refinement and the good taste accompanied the
crystalline voices of children, in a warm and friendly
atmosphere, of empathy with the children who live in
vulnerable social environments.
The guests enjoyed a unique show, presented by children
assisted within Save the Children’s programs together
with Smiley & Band, a special dinner, with a special
menu and they had the chance to win the raffle products
and services offered by sponsors.
The master of ceremonies was Andi Moisescu, as usual, which
lead the auction of the Christmas trees.
Generosity and involvement
„For ten years, the Festival of Christmas Trees brings
joy in the lives of children for whom even the
smallest desires are hardly fulfilled.
With the great support of renowned designers, of
reputable companies with social involvement and
of the personalities from various fields, Save the
Children Romania managed to go directly to these
children, helping them to go to school.
Nothing is more important than the contribution we
have in bringing normality in the life of a child ”.

The online Auction
As an innovation in the 2010 edition, the Festival of
Christmas Trees entered the online environment, due
to an initiative of 10 bloggers who joined the cause
of the disadvantaged children.
Th online project was designed to continue the traditional
auction from the Evening Gala, so that every blogger
created a Christmas tree for the online auction
organized on her/his blog, adding the funds
collected to the amount gathered at the Festival of
Christmas Trees 2010.
