THE PEOPLES PRESS Dale Linderbaum ended an outstanding career in banking with his December 31, 2012 retirement and his day-to-day presence will be sorely missed by our customers and co-workers alike. Following graduation from MFL, Dale attended college in LaCrosse WI, but his college was interrupted by a 2-year stint in the United States Army. He earned his degree by attending night school at Mt. Mercy College and began his business career as a Cost Accountant with Weyerhauser. Later he worked as Assistant Controller and Data Processing Manager at Highway Equipment Co. but moved back to this area and joined Luana Savings Bank in 1978. Dale worked his way up at Luana Savings Bank and became President in 1990. In 1998 he moved to Guttenberg IA to become President of Security State Bank and he served in that capacity until the merger with Peoples State Bank. He remained as manager of the bank’s Guttenberg operations and was instrumental in leading a smooth transition during the acquisition and maintaining a high-performing, customer-focused banking office for the Guttenberg community. In commenting on Dale’s retirement, Chairman Tom Farrell stated “We are really going to miss Dale and his professionalism and outstanding leadership but we know he has earned this chance to relax and enjoy himself and we wish him nothing but the best in his retirement”. Congratulations, Dale! FEBRUARY 2013 “Computer Tips “ In today’s age, many people prefer to stay updated by reading news and information on the Internet. However, the quality of our vision varies, and it may not be as comfortable interpreting small font on a website as it is to read a newspaper or other publication. Fortunately, on Windows based PC’s there are keyboard shortcuts that can be utilized to optimize your online reading experience. While reading online next time, try hitting the “F11” button on your keyboard. Pressing F11 toggles your web browser in and out of a full-screen view. Additionally, holding the control button on your keyboard (CTRL) and rolling the mouse wheel up and down will zoom in and out. This zoom function can also be utilized in other applications, such as Microsoft Word. Becoming acquainted with keyboard shortcuts such as these, can make your online reading experience much more satisfying! Tom White, a member of our Board of Directors since 1972 and Chairman of the Board since 1984, passed away January 7, 2013 after a long illness. Tom ran a very successful business in Tom White Dairy Cattle, Inc. but also was tremendously successful with his skills as a banker. He was extremely proud of Peoples State Bank, its significant role in the community, and with the success it enjoyed under his leadership – a time during which the bank grew from 5 offices and assets of $15 million to the present day operation consisting of 13 offices and assets of $546 million. In commenting on his passing, Chairman Tom Farrell said “Tom served on our Board during good times and turbulent times and the fact our bank has done so well is a real testament to his banking skills and leadership. His influence and his presence will be sorely missed.” Tom’s survivors are Sally, his wife of 62 years, sons Michael (Chris Lawlor), Galena IL., Tim (Connie Erdmann), Eagan, MN, daughters Kerry (Dave) Hipenbecker, Cincinnati, OH, and Kim Barrow, Williamsburg, VA, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. December 31, 2012 marked the retirement date for Vice President Tom Friar and ended a long and storied banking career. His absence will be felt by all of us who have worked closely with him. Tom’s early career, after earning a degree in Agricultural Education (Comprehensive) from UW-Platteville, began as an Ag Instructor in Whitehall, WI and then he spent 5 years in a similar position at Lancaster High School. He then began his banking career with Lancaster State Bank (M&I Bank) as a Loan Officer and earned promotions up to Vice President before leaving M&I to join Peoples State Bank in March 1999 as Vice President. When Peoples State Bank acquired the Mt. Hope office from M&I in May 1999, Tom also assumed responsibility as Manager of that office. During his tenure, the significant growth of the Mt. Hope office augmented the tremendous overall success the Bank has enjoyed over this same period. In reflecting on Tom’s retirement, President Mark Forsythe stated “Tom has been a real team player and all of our bank staff, as well as his many customers, are really going to miss him. However, he certainly has earned this chance to relax and we wish him nothing but the best in this new lifestyle.” Tom will now spend more time pursuing his farming interests plus hobbies of hunting and fishing. Also, he and his wife Judy have just welcomed a new grandson into their family and this young lad is sure to garner a lot of their attention and energy.
